Damon Wayans poked fun at this movie in one of his stand-ups. He said a pimp told him that his handicapped son didn't even laugh at this movie and that boy laughs at car accidents😂
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? Korey is far left, anybody not there with him is ostracized. I miss when the channel didn't talk politics, but it's seeped into everything now...
Before the Black Panther, Blade, and Spawn movies, there was Blankman. And boy it was something. 😆 UPDATE: So, Meteor Man came out before Blankman, which I didn't know. That's my bad.
@@anubusx honestly, I think I can be played straight, like a guy who builds stuff and fights crime with it. Like a poor batman meets Ironman. We live in a world where we can build gadgets just by looking up stuff
You do realize Black Panther Spawn And Blade came first actually right? Since they were introduced in comic books before they had films made about them. Plus Falcon And Luke Cage also came first since they were comic book characters before they were film characters. Sure. Comics aren't as mainstream as live action films. But at least in terms of comics. You had representation. If I were you all. I would actually go and read some comic's featuring those characters. Since the comics are actually far better than the super hero films they made with those characters (Plus it's gonna be a while before we get another Spawn film or a new Blade film or that Black Panther sequel).
Hopefully they will bad movie roast Chuck E. Cheese into the galaxy 5000 movie because I heard Korey put it on the next bad movie poll imagine them bad movie roasting that billy will laugh his ass off of that😂😂😂
I myself have Asperger's mixed with mild autism and I agree I think the character Blankman is someone who, if they lived in the real world, would be on the spectrum as he is very precise and punctual about everything. And when it comes to those who bully geeks, just remember some of the world's most influential and intellectual people such as doctors and nurses who help you when you're ill, were probably 'geeks'...
You know what’s funny? I just watched this movie recently for the first time and I wasn’t expecting it to be bad. I mean, I knew it was gonna be stupid… but not bad. But yes, it was a bad movie. Major Payne was much better
@@Bigedub101 none of the Wayans are as big as big of stars as Jim Carrey. Even though In Living Color was the Wayans show, Jim Carrey became a bigger star than all the Wayans put together and the biggest star who came out of In Living Color
One if the funniest movies of all time in my book. The comedy in this had me so weak my stomach hurt watching this. This and "I'm gonna get you sucka" are timeless classics
Blankman was meant to be a comedy. A black parody of Adam West Batman TV show from the 60s. Meteor Man was Tonal confused comedy superhero mess with a budget. If Meteor Man had better villains and a super villain to match his superpowers, I would had been the next Superman 2.
@@jt808ful I disagree. Meteor Man had a ton of black stars on it, but it's comedy was wack and storyline was lame. Black villains with blonde hitops? Really?
Never gets old 😭 7:21 He doesn't look happy 😭 20:46 Grandma put salt in that wound 💯 29:44 Big guy been eating a lot 😂 39:18 Aw that's terrible 😂👀 21:18 Lol way too late now 😭 22:10 "Tony Cox" looks angry 😡😭 41:28 So canceled! 👀😨🌈 41:48 Lmao hey David! 👋😂 47:35 "Blankman" was such a weird movie, But it was funny at least💯 Nowadays "humor" pretty much is going away, that is not a good thing… 🤦🏾♂️😨
@@chriscalamity4346 this the one....I'm not against making fun of different people ,races etc but more the same damn lame jokes to me.... Even if a movie like this was made today, I say it be more offensive to me cause it just be more rehash of old jokes....
@@shadow-gr4iw Little Man was okay. I am more of a Keenan and Damon fan. I would have liked to see Shawn do more solo projects. Marlon can be somewhat tiresome after a while. But Keenan and Damon are the O.G.s of comedy.
The only thing I can remember from this movie is at the end of the movie is Blankman gets the key to the city and his sidekick Other Guy gets a Blankman t-shirt.
There was a guy at my old job and everybody called him Blankman, looked and act just like Damon Waynes with the thick glasses tight close and nerdy laugh. If you saw him you'd swear he was putting on and act, but that's how he really was.
Man, this takes me back. I haven't seen this movie since the mid '90s. I used to be a HUGE fan of In Living Color when it was on air. It was one of my go to prime time shows to watch in the early '90s. I was actually excited to see this when it was announced back then. I never got to see in the theater, but I did get to eventually rent it. Yes, it's bad. Yes, it's goofy and silly, but I enjoyed it for what it is.
This movie is soooo funny to me!!! I use to be a huge fan of 1960s Batman and I was a HUGE fan of In Living Color so this was right up my ally. My favorite scene is when the random lady gives birth on the elevator and Darryl thinks he’s the father 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm disabled (Bone disorder), and Handyman made me cry, lmao. I'm not offended in anyway. This stuff was a classic for its time. Also, was J-5 reference to Johnny 5 (Short Circuit)?
I like to look up old ILC skits on YT and I was surprised by the amount of comments from people with different disabilities who actually loved Handi Man
@@fangal12 oh yeah, we're not offended by that. Straight up making fun of us for what we have is pretty offensive. But this a classic and great comedy!!
A nerdy inventor by the name of Darryl Walker is a manchild and a fan of his childhood superhero "Batman" lives with his older brother, Kevin Walker a TV news cameraman and their grandmother Eleanor Walker in a inner city Metropolitan neighborhood city played with crime
Oh dang. I just thought about this movie recently out of nowhere. I grew up with this film but hadn't seen it again since I was 12. I remember being so sad about his Grandma getting killed. Seeing it now is making me laugh at how serious I took that moment when the movie didn't.
13:52 As a member of the Autistic Community, I'm cool with that. I think Blankman is funny, sure it's stupid but it's not like the movie is meant to be taken seriously.
Sometimes Korey and Martin can be too apologetic to sound PC for movies that were made before PC culture began. Blankman was funny for it's time. Damon Wayans used to have me in tears from laughing in In Living Color.
I liked Blankman back then and I still like it. It may technically be a bad movie, but it wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I would even call it a "cult classic" now.
As a Man with High Functioning Autism I'm so glad we moved past character's like BlankMan and have gotten much better representation especially in recent cartoons....But I still feel like in alot of media you really have to look hard for people with Autism to have representation and I hope they changes in the next couple of year's
As a fellow man with High Functioning Autism this movie was never meant to be taken seriously. It was a comical one off hero movie with a quirky black man who became his own grass roots Super Hero, akin to a ghetto Batman. That's what it was to me, I never thought it was a movie to get too deep into.
I didn't know Greg Kinnear was in Blankman ! A few years later, Greg went on to play Captain Amazing in Mystery Men. Another movie you should review. Another movie you should review is Don't Be A Menace While Drinking Your Juice In South Central.
Coming to save your butt. You know what's funny, this also came out before Mystery Men, Kick-ass & Super, if we're going by the regular people becoming real life live superheroes on screen.
man, me and my brothers legit loved this movie. "you have a big finger", "someone should help that lady!", "j5!" and the ejaculation noise used to be common quotes in my house
At least the music is amazing: New Power Generation * II D Extreme * Tag Team * Portrait * Lala Hathaway *`Silk * Domino * Keith "KB" Ball * G-Wiz * Funky Poets * and K-Dee nailed the soundtrack. 🎶🎵🎼🎧
"Nobody even acknowledges handicapped people." When a society's answer to preventing the abuse of the unfortunate is to just ignore them entirely. Also, as a handicapped person, I kinda hated the whole "you can do anything!" attitude. Like, I get the spirit of the concept. But it's real goddamn annoying when I'm limping around on a crutch and wanting to just die already and someone says I just gotta believe harder. Mind over matter; that shit. If anything I'm far more inspired to be a supervillain.
Mark 42:47? Greg Kinnear? Hey! In the 1999 CBM, "Mystery Men", the death of his character, "Captain Amazing / Lance Hunt", motivated the formation of the titular team! His character accepted sponsorships, so his costume resembled a race car driver's! 😆
This has to be one of my favorite movies starring a wayans brother i laughed at this movie more than white chicks and little man but this is definitely top 5
LOL, Blankman and The Meteor Man were meant to be spoofs off of the 1960s Batman. Nothing compared to the more awesome and serious heroes like Black Panther and Blade.🙅🏾♂️👊🏾
@@marcushamner5994 Blankman made a boot gun that can reliably inflict knockout and retract perfectly. I actually wanted a lot of his gadgets as a kid. Like damn, they actually work.
I use to watch this movie as a kid and a lot of the jokes went over my head. It was fun going back and watching as an adult. Movie is fire, its a good bad movie
Make 32:04? Thanks for the education about how they did make-up back then. I didn't know that it was literal, when they said, "pancake", in reference to the method. But honestly, I couldn't tell the difference until you explained it. ☹️
I remember my mom used to take that furniture-esque TV - considering it felt like an antique and was made of wood - to the balcony to catch signals just so we could watch something.
I'm glad y'all at DT brought this one up. I used to loved watching it when I was a kid!! I really didn't quite place Darryl/Blankman as autistic (I didn't know what that was yet) but I felt he was a special kid in some way. I never saw it as bad but being exposed to the Wayans by In Living Color and Damon Wayans being in it with David Alan Grier I figured that it was something that was pretty good from them. Probably something they or Damon came up with since they couldn't do Handi-Man Movie. I didn't learn was John Polito was until I saw him on Homicide :Life on the Streets TV show on NBC back in the 90's. He was there in the first 3 season playing Det. Crossetti, I definitely enjoyed him playing the villain in Blankman. Polito was a pretty a pretty good actor . I didn't know he was openly gay. Sadly he passed away in 2016. A year after he married his longtime partner. This movie takes me back to the 90's where life was just so simple for me as a kid!! I'm still weirded out of his orgasms yet it's so funny when goes like that!!
I guess I’ll be the sour grape here and that as much as you can say that this movie is progressive for having a main character who imhas disabilities, but it’s still played for laughs. Bad representation is still bad representation, and I’d rather have no representation than bad. However, I will acknowledge that this movie does have some funny spots (especially the groin injury /woman going into labor scene and “let’s take a walk, have a seat”). However as an “In Living Color” stan, I was disappointed that of all the characters they picked to make a movie about, they picked THIS one?!? They could’ve easily have done a Homey the Clown or Anton Jackson (good observation that this movie’s character sounds similar to Anton) movie, this character was always on the D-list on the show. P. S. - At 21:07, that does sound harsh, but with some men you have to be blunt or else they think they still have a shot or sleeping with. Going as far as saying “I would not bang you if you were the last man on Earth” is harsh , but a guy could ask that question, so answer before hand if you want to be left alone. P. P. S. - David Allan Grier WAS robbed of a larger movie or TV career, but I chalked that to 1/3 “a man’s gotta eat”, 1/3 Hollywood racism, and 1/3 stardom has never been a meritocracy.
I seen Damon in a recent interview and he said he should've did a Handyman movie instead. He said he was feeling himself and thought people would come watch anything he put out. All the while people around him were saying he should do Handyman.
