The bishop orders Ted, Dougal and Jack to protest at the island cinema, where a blasphemous film is being shown.
Beloved sitcom focused on three priests living on Craggy Island, a remote island off the west coast of Ireland. Father Ted Crilly is sent to the island as punishment for using charitable funds for a holiday in Las Vegas, but his true punishment comes in the form of Father Dougal Maguire and Jack Hackett, one a fresh-faced naive young priest, and the other a foul-mouthed, rage-filled alcoholic. Mrs Doyle is their nosy housekeeper, who makes plentiful pots of tea and never takes `no' for an answer. Despite their isolation, the priests get into their fair share of mildly sinful, entirely madcap adventures.

I like the idea of Father Jack, Dougal and Ted all getting along in their hatred of Bishop Brennan at the end of this episode. It is a shame there are not more episodes of the three of them teaming up.

This is my favourite Fr Ted episode! I’ve watched so many times but only just realised that from 18:46 on, poor Dougal gets embarrassed and hides behind his sign when the ladies start talking about the man who “got his lad out”. This episode is the gift that keeps on giving

Many of us who've just discovered this older series are surprised---and like me, delighted---at its courage in presenting the dark underbelly of the church. It may be done comically, but it speaks volumes about much of the hypocrisy that still exists within it. Even after the housekeeper and other townspeople do their fawning shtick in front of the priests, they often show how little the clerical hierarchy really means to them....and it doesn't even mean anything to the priests! Terrific series!

One of the many things in this episode that cracked me up was Brennan's first appearance. The wordless stare at Ted's fertility statue speaks volumes.

A very apt comment about how as soon as a party start protesting against any form of entertainment they do nothing but help raise more interest and awareness of said piece of entertainment than if they'd said nothing at all.

I wasn't sure if it was sitcom predictability or just plain human predictability that had me thinking the same thing. I am Catholic, and as a teenager I remember reading the lists of acceptable and not so acceptable films in the weekly Catholic Light newspaper. Seeing a particular movie labeled as objectionable made me curious about it but growing up in a small town meant there was no way that I would ever see an objectionable movie without my parents finding out.

The dumb one that says “it looks like rain” when it’s already storming out reminds me of my mom in 2011. I got a call and she said “I think we had a tornado” and I said “it should be pretty clear, mom” and she said “well you better come see”. Half the roof was gone and all the 100 year old pecan trees were gone and every single tree was at least sheared off above 20’ off the ground. 🤦‍♂️

straight up though, it literally wasn't their fault. they didn't fuck up the protest. they did exactly what brennan said and it just didn't have the effect he intended. this was brennan's mistake of foresight.
