Using down + attack to lantern jump just wasn't working reliably for me, but I found a better way - one that actually works every single time! In under 3 minutes I explain exactly how to lantern jump with the help of a virtual gamepad so you can see exactly how it's done.

You can skip laterns by using the sword fragment that give you a speed boost whenever you slide allowing you to ignore all laterns even in challenge runs

Started to play yesterday and thanks to this I figured out you can do this on almost everything you can hit. Especially fun to do on certain enemies close to each other, you will "?strike bounce?" past them.

The funny thing is that I've noticed this in the gameplay tips, and thought it didn't work or something cause I was trying to press RT at the same time as A and didn't seem to work. The "hold RT" tip helps inmensely!

I was always under the impression that down + forward in the direction you're going was the way to bounce off a lantern, it does not slow you down like when you only pressed down here, but I still triggered Consecration (the falling attack) every now and then. The method you're showing in the video sounds like a 100%, i'll be sure to test it next time!

I love this game but damn they didn’t spoon feed you ANYTHING. If you wanna enjoy this game and not rage quit stay away from the snow when you first start. Get stronger first

It was the only thing I forgot how to do in the tutorial, and couldn't find it again. The internet said that I had to do down+slash. It became my own personal penitence. Thank you, the Miriam challenges were the only thing keeping me from a 100% completion because of those damn lanterns, I just beat one that was driving me crazy =)

Bro I thank you, I was stuck on a Miriam puzzle for a solid 2 hours, failing on the lantern jumps because i watched a video from someone on youtube saying "u have to hit the down button and have to time it" and i thought it was true.. and after failing for 2 hours i thought "I can't be this fukin bad ,there must be some other way to do this" and i stumble on this video!! Hahaha exactly man, after going through the same frustration I had to find a better way. I think it's doubly confusing that there are two ways to do the lantern jump, but one works 100% of the time (the dash way) and one works like 5% of the time (down attack). The fact that they even implemented the down attack is one of life's greatest mysteries

...oh wow. I've been seeing this 'lantern jump' and I never knew how to do it, but the dash + swing sword works perfectly. Honestly I thought it might be something u could only do on a gamepad(on my pc keyboard) Thanks for putting this up. I googled the 'hit jump', 'slash hit', 'is there a double jump mech?', nada.

There is, but it's poorly placed at the first cherub in the game, and not near the first lanterns. It's a weird mechanic that wasn't in the base game (added later in DLC), making it the most obscure feature in the game

I just started playing again and I was thinking about that jump I was going to make where there an item but I have no clue bounce off any of these. I managed to some times but it’s also a fluke. I hope I can finally beat it this time! Genuinely thank you, this will really help me playing Blasphemous and hope you enjoy playing Blasphemous 2 just like I plan to.

It's heavily used in the Strife & Ruin DLC. Go and find Miriam in the south eastern part of the cathedral towards the end of the game. I'll be making a video for those challenges, too.

Ive found, for me, the easiest way is by not pushing in any direction as im hitting the lanterns.. Removes the possibility of doing a directional swing. Will definitely give this a go though

I played through the first few bosses and got to that fire church area but was using guides and stuff the first time I played in 2021 but I’ve forgotten it all now and just gonna go in blind.. I know I’ll miss shit but I can always replay .. it’s so hard for me to do blind play through .. I’m one of those people.. lol

Bro, I dont know why, but when I try to do this, while looking to the left, El Penitente doesnt attack, just makes a jump, but if I unpress dash, it actually attacks, and I dont know why that is, its driving me crazy

@@Mordrukk666 ah i actually am in NG+ with the penance were you can only heal Up your fervour with Bile flasks so what is extremely helpful is the Zarabanda of the Safe Haven, which destroys the blue Flame projectiles. Also the rosary Bead "Piece of a Tombstone", which cancels falling stagger. Makes your Life way easier. Still Stuck haha. Right now i'm Stuck at the Part with the pendulums quite far into the Challenge. (after the blue Flame bullet hell Elevator). And Sure I will. I Love this Game :D

Ive been using this air attack a lot, very usefull against those flying bishop guys with spears and somewhat usefull against Our Lady of the Charred Visage. Big to of limestone makes you able to hit 3 instead of 2 times in air as well. Not usefull in most scenarios, but still

That's a good note about the toes, as I've read equipping that one you mentioned can add some additional help in the Miriam trials.
