I mean, the players keep bringing him around despite him having the constitution wet paper. Brennan is speed running nothing. It’s on the players that gilear keeps dying over and over and over.

Running gags are the best, and I have several in my games as well. Years ago, my group became rather insistent that I always have proper names for towns, NPCs, etc. They just couldn't roll with it; had to have a name for the town, no matter how detailed the layout and buildings were. Well, I got so flustered by this that I ended up just blurting out the first thing that came to mind. And so it was that the travelers eventually arrived at the town of Little Consequence. Because it literally doesn't matter. What's in a name, anyway? I eventually just started doing it by default, because it became clear to me that this was going to be a thing from now on. When the party finally went to the coast to hire a ship for overseas travel, I narrated the scene by saying "You come at last upon the seaside city of Starboard Port." Wish I could remember some of the others I came up with. One of my NPCs had an alchemically-imbued perfume she would wear that gave her a bonus to seducing others. It was recorded on her sheet as "...a seductive, poppy-seed scent, mixed by the Lady Caraway of Sesame."

He _is_ the Chosen One, after all

To be fair, a dance fight WAS setup up. It sort of bugs me... not that part, that was good. But the setups that are always there from the beginning to "circle back..." a lot of times it feels too convenient as a way to boost players' abilities. For example, Fig inheriting ridiculous powers, versus Fabian getting the Hangman. One feels like scripting, the other feels more like a decision that never had to be made, but wound up a good investment by a player wondering "is this possible?"

His isn't the only card on the table. It is possible several or all of them have them. When they got the pirate sending spell where curses don't count, Emily held up a card that said the same thing. edit: sorry, hadn't seen that point of the stream yet and was lacking context. Got it now.

Allowing romance is a tricky bit of human interaction. Almost none of my players have been able to handle it with any measure or maturity or separation of Character Versus Player. Rule No. One: You are not your character. Your character is not you. What happens to your character happens in game, not in real life. But people let it stay with them. I've had to essentially veto relationships in order to prevent players getting the wrong idea about each other...or the GM. It gets weird very quickly for my group. I wonder what rules were put into place here that prevented it with them.

@@OldWayArtisans everyone on D20 are trained actors and comedians, so seperation of character and person just comes more naturally.

Brennan's ability to manage so many NPCs at once, and STILL find the time to pay enough attention to his players that they didn't get bored or lose focus...is legendary. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I hope I'm lucky enough to find a GM half this good for a local game.

For those liking this reply, I have an update. I've started using some of Brennan's broad-spectrum policies and methodologies in my own monthly game, and it's WORKING. One of my players is on the spectrum. A lot. His focus issues tend to lead us on "rabbit trails" that last for literally hours. But instead of ditching the player, I tried making it about them and only being there as a framework to tell the story. My guys...he didn't leave the couch but to get coffee or use the restroom. I had his attention for the entire session, and it wasn't just a couple hours. All day is how we do it. Since watching D20, I've begun paring down the number of NPCs I use with the party, as well as the number that I have actively doing background plot. I can't believe the difference it has made. Mr. Mulligan...whatever it is you're doing...KEEP IT UP.

His narration of Ayda casting a huge spell to flood hell with ocean water was just awesome, I'm definitely going back to re-watch it!!

Honestly, I don't mind the lack of minis and sets. It makes it feel much less strict and regimented and more like a normal ass game of DnD.

He was disguised as a dragonborn. They probably just assumed he took his dragon parent's name.

Dragonborn often really enjoy gold as well, just normally they're not as obsessed with it as full dragons

My admiration of Ayda Agefort was immediate, but not for the same reason. She's socially stunted, blunt, gruff, and brutally honest, but isn't mean about it. There's something quirky and adorable about somebody so forthright and so willing to eat dirt in the face of attempting to befriend others. I found her to be "unapologetically pure" and I love the places it led her. Of course...the wonderful social tangles it landed her in were a contributing factor. ^_^

The threat of getting chungled is far more terrifying than the actual act of getting chungled.

It's also the smartest thing to do in BG3.

It's been a while since I watched but I believe the cover makes it +1, not sure if that's the same as magical. Either way it's been a while since the first season when this was recorded and IIRC they recorded a whole different campaign in between so a lot of that stuff is forgotten about. It took half the season to remember that Fabian could have healed the Hangman with his motor wax from season 1 all along.
