The credit for BLAST FROM THE PAST goes to Bill Kelly for writing the story (i.e. all the scenes from the film) and to Hugh Wilson and Bill Kelly from writing the screenplay (i.e. all the conversations of the film) 👍 Hugh Wilson went on to direct this film he wrote 😂
Brendon is so underrated. The fact that he could so believably carry such ridiculous movies and make them sweet, like this and Encino Man, and even George.
I couldn't agree with you more! The perfect example is the scene in George of the Jungle where he is out running with the horses and all the women are swooning and the guys are off to the side and say "I wonder what it is about women and horses" :-) he just has this way of bringing an innocents and charm to everything he does.
One Brendan Fraser movie I have not seen anywhere in this comment section is 'Airheads' with Steve Buscemi and Adam Sandler. Another is 'Encino Man' then one that got bat reviews, but Cassie might like is 'Dudley Do-Right'.
Excess Baggage is definitely an overlooked Alicia Silverstone film. She and Benicio Del Toro are currently in the film Reptiles together, and seeing them work together once again almost 30 years later is just an awesome treat. The chemistry is still there! Perhaps we will get to see her and Brendan work together again one day as well.
When you watch it again - at the end when you see Eve's reflection in the window as she watches Adam's dad in the backyard, look carefully at what she is doing with her hands... Most people miss that detail. :)
My two favorite lines from this movie. "I think I'm being chased by a psychiatrist" & "I'm asking you to trust me, without completely understanding why for right now" 🙂
He was watching one of the great comedians. The Great 1 Jackie Gleason... The Honeymooners. Was the TV show he was watching over and over. Its that funny 🤣😂 It ran in 1953 and was the 2nd best TV show next to I Love Lucy. Mr Gleason never rehearsed, he showed up 30 min before the show came on LIVE, read his script and Away he goes. And in those days 99% TV was live, not recorded like today then showed after editing.
If you want to see other, Brendan Fraser movies that aren’t reactive to enough, I would highly recommend ‘With Honors’, ‘School Ties’, and ‘Still Breathing’. 👍🏻😉👍🏻💙💙💙
I loved this movie, One of the best movies I ever seen Brendan Fraser in is God's And Monsters. It is a drama very different from any thing he had ever done. He plays opposite of Ian McKellen(Gandalf Lord of the ring) It is about the director of the movies Frankenstein and The bride of Frankenstein.
23:01 Because far too many people in our American society of 2023, especially younger generations, have either forgotten or were never taught to value the truly good and pure things in life.
Oh, man. Carly missed out. This would have been a perfect sister reaction. This is a super-fun film that has actually aged pretty well and has a stellar cast. Thanks, Cass.
I was 19 when this came out, and part of the promotion of this movie was a swing dance competition to be part of the big swing dance scene, and a lot of my friends participated in the competition. So this movie gives me all the warm fuzzies for the memories alone.
I miss the 90's swing dance craze so much! I was about 17 when this came and my crush taught me how to flip like in the scene and i was so sore the next day but it was _worth it_
Cassie, if you liked this, you will LOVE "Bedazzled" with Brendan and Elizabeth Hurley. Same type of comedy, and Brendan's portrayal of multiple characters is one of his best acting jobs ever. Please please please put that on your list! I promise you will love it as much as you loved this one. Wonderful reaction by the way...as others have said below, Brendan and Alicia's chemistry is off the charts.
The true hidden talent in your videos is your editor. He knows the movies just like your audience does and doesn't miss any of the good moments of the movie. Most editors just use the reactors reactions, your editor uses the flow of the movie plus your reaction...your editor deserves much credit to the success of your posts. But Im sure you knew that already.
You're absolutely correct. Cassie's editor makes it look easy, when, in fact, it's not. You can tell when you watch other reactors and the poor editing jumps out at you.
On one channel, they were doing "Casablanca", and the scene where Captain Renault exclaims "I'm shocked, shocked to find gambling..." was completely cut out! Cassie's editor would never screw up that bad!
Thank you so much for watching this movie. It is one of my all-time favorites! I knew you'd like it, too. You did an excellent job reacting to it. I'm still smiling that you enjoyed it so much.
And the original BEDAZZLED with Dudley Moore and devilish Peter Cook is my favorite version but, you're right, Brendan is excellent in the remake. I hate doing without either devil, though - see both.
One of my faves is SCHOOL TIES. It’s a drama, not a rom-com but Brendan’s 1st-ish movie and his acting, even then, was sooo great! (Also has a roster of very famous, albeit young, actors.)
The funniest two lines in this entire movie are “Eve, the psychic pimp” and “Oh my lucky stars… a Negro”. I was born in 1984 the rural areas of the Midwest and when this movie came out I was taken aback and then laughed so hard. Each delivery being so innocent (like me at the time) yet so funny.
Hi Cassie!😊 Bomb shelters were a big deal around this time. There were actually bomb shelter salesmen. Hot Dr. Pepper, that is the real crime in this film!😆 They were watching "The Honeymooners" on TV in the shelter. It was a very popular sitcom in the 50s with Jackie Gleason. That was quite a reaction, Cassie!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏 You were soooo stressed out that things weren't going to work out in this film.
My favorite scene is when Brenndan is sitting in the rain and Felicia walks up, and He says, "My father, who is a scientist; says that everything is a miracle..." Such a great outlook.
This is definitely a movie that holds up with repeated viewing. I love this movie! He's done so many movies, I've not seen them all but some of my favourites that you haven't said you've seen are Encino Man, Airheads, Bedazzled, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Inkheart. I don't know if you've seen Dudley Do-Right, it's pretty much the same tone as George of the Jungle, and it's also based off a cartoon. So it's kind of like they made Dudley Do-Right instead of making a sequel to George... It's goofy as all hell, but if you like George of the Jungle and haven't seen this... give it a try.
Coming from southern Alberta in 1990s I watched this movie..... I have been telling everyone how important this movie was.....I'm glad someone from my homeland is spreading the good words!!!!
This movie is charming as anything. Walken & Spacek have SO much fun with their characters. I don't know how anyone came up with the idea of a nuclear armageddon themed fairy tale rom com .....but it WORKS! This is one of those movies that I thought was forgotten in time. I'm so glad you discovered it and shared it here. I'm hopeful this will introduce it to a new generation of fans. Thanks! 😁
Brendan was so underrated as an actor, because these movies are a little silly, but his acting is so great in all of those movies. It was so great that he got a chance to show off his acting in The Whale and the result is we'll be getting a lot more Brendan Fraser.
The writer & director of this film also gifted us with WKRP in Cincinnati. So happy you enjoyed this forgotten gem. Carly would love this too. I don't think any of us would mind a double-dip reaction on this movie.
OMG! I just remembered that Hugh Wilson also wrote and directed "Rustler's Rhapsody"! Cassie MUST SEE that one. (If nothing else, so she can see Tom Berenger in something other than "Platoon", lol.)
Since you loved this movie so much; may I suggest another one of Brendan’s movies (if you haven’t already reacted to it) called BEDAZZLED starring him and Elizabeth Hurley! It’s another fun Rom-Com that I’m sure you’ll love just as much as this one!
THIS may be THE "Popcorn in Bed" movie of "Popcorn in Bed" movies. It is a completely ridiculous Rom Com. Good with chicken soup if you're sick. Walken and Spacek seal the deal.
22:38 I think that the ocean scene was so tender because its Adam's first real interaction with Mother Nature. As he walks to embrace it with open arms you can see the waves coming toward him to do the same. 🌊🙋🏻♂️
Yes!!!! Finally someone reacts to this!! Next you should react to The Family Man starring Nic Cage and Tea Leoni. It’s great and both a heartwarming/breaking Christmas film.
This is a very Cassie movie! Great reaction! Great cast I Luv Christopher Walken. Brendan & Alicia are great together! Thanks for watching this movie! Luv ya Cassie ❤💛🍿
@@martinboyle9163 Yes, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Dudley became such a solo star with "10" and "Arthur" that people forgot how good they were together.
Ahhhhh!!! I love this movie! And you're right about the little details. Adam's astonishment that Troy had a computer that can fit IN THE HOUSE. The way the mom bounces her knees with the dad when he's testing the elevator for the first time. The way she snatches the mug out from under the dad when he keels over, so that it won't spill. Adam's suit jacket matching the blanket on the bed when his dad says goodbye.
I love that it works because he’s so honest in this portrayal. If he mugged for the camera and played it for laughs I don’t think Adam would have worked, but Fraiser plays him with such vulnerability he not only gets the laugh but tears too.
Wonderful reaction Cassie. This would have been perfect for you and Carly to watch together. I adore this movie, and it's my favorite Brendan Fraser role. Though for next Spooky season, you should watch him in Bedazzled. He plays several fun characters in that. Another Alicia Silverstone movie for you to watch is Excess Baggage. Christopher Walken plays an Uncle type to her, but he's not as sweet as in this one. It's a fun movie made before her career tanked.
This movie is hilarious from beginning to end. Great characters, great acting, beautiful story, romance and just wholesome. I love seeing the actors almost break character in the scene where Brendan is running around the social worker and her coworker. You can see her and Alicia almost die laughing lol. Oh and the scene where he's dancing in the living room and then bumps Troy off... my grandma got a kick out of that scene 😅. Love it! Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken were just sweet and awesome. Nathan Fillion is another fine actor. He's always a delight to watch. This movie is just plain awesome.
Has Carly seen this one? If not go watch it with her.... And your right. Had no business being this WHOLESOME of a movie that makes you smile. It always reminded me of PLEASANTVILLE that way.
Another great Brenda Frasier movie is Bedazzled. He play so many different versions of his character in that film. What he does in it is amazing! Love that movie
Man! I wish I could dance like that! 😲Went to my 20 year class reunion and while setting with friends that I haven't seen in 20 years we all pointed out the high points of our memories. A buddy of mine told me he didn't understand how the teachers allowed it in Jr. High.... but I used to just go out on the dance floor, press my face into the shirt-fronts of the young ladies and leave them with a path of sucker-bights across their bossom! (I was that short! -My face was right in their chests.) I told him, "Well.... I can't dance!" Minutes later, I was on the dance floor of our reunion swinging with two women. I had one in each hand and was spinning them 'round, back and forth. It made quiite a scene and many others on the dance floor stopped to watch us going at it! When I came back from the dance floor, face wet and dripping in sweat, my buddy spoke up, "Thought you said you couldn't dance!" I shrugged my shoulders and tipped my head to one side, "Well," I told him, "I couldn't dance back then!" 😀A bit later in the night, I came back from the dance floor and told my table full of friends, "Ya know, with my epilepsy and these strobe lights, you just might see some real good break dancing tonight!" That old buddy of mine, now a physician, his eyes lit up, his jaw hung open and he gasped, "Oh! Heck yeah! We just take you out on that dance floor an'' spin you 'round!" He and I howled with laughter but the joke went over the heads of all the others. --Pulsing music and flashing lights are 2 common triggers for epileptic seizures! 🙂
16:01 CLUELESS REFERENCE!!! Eve mentions being stuck in San Fernando Valley without a clue...In Clueless, Cher is stuck in Sun Valley, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region 😍
Great choice! Another Brenden Frasier movie that seems to be a sleeper on RU-vid is the 2000 version of "Bedazzled" with Elizabeth Hurley. It is a hoot. Good job on this one. It's a very cute concept, the irony of which is recognized by someone whose dad had a bomb shelter in the backyard in the 60s.
Blast from the Past is one of my all-time favourites. It's a true feel-good movie... and I also love time-travel movies. By the way, I hope you'll some day react to *The Rocketeer (1991)* .
Brenden Frasier is such an incredible talent. The Mummy series is great, but this is really my favorite movie of his. I am so glad to see he had a comeback recently. (edit: I hope your reaction gets other channels to check it out. I would also watch a second watch reaction from you for this one 🤣)
I got so excited when I saw you reacted to this movie. It is one of my favorites and not many people have reacted to it. I love all your reactions this is probably my favorite. I love how invested you got in the story. Brendan Fraser does such a great job in this role. You can really believe his character is experiencing everything for the first time. Alicia Silverstone is great in the opposition she's seen too much. The way they played off each other was so great and made the movie spectacular. I can't wait to watch your next reaction. Keep up the great work.
The detail work here is incredible. From the matching interior (a set) that they create for Eve's Craftsman house, to Adam referring to "Larry 'Yogi' Berra" because that's how Yogi (who almost never used his given name) was listed on the baseball card. Also, I met Alicia Silverstone at the premiere party, but I was too awestruck to make any real conversation. Still pretty cool, though. (The studios cracked down on premiere and party-crashing after 9/11, which must have been a bummer. I had moved on by then, anyhow.) You've seen Joey Slotnick (Melker) before, in "Twister" and honestly his film career never really took off, but he was all over TV for a while.
Literally my favourite Brendan Fraser movie. The enthusiasm to which he attacks lines like The Sky! The music and comedy hits exceptionally well also. The soundtrack is amazing too. I actually felt jealous seeing you react to it.
This movie is so fun. I also really like Alicia and Christopher Walken in Excess Baggage (1997). Not wholesome like this, but still a fun romance. So glad you enjoyed this!
The crazy thing is the other Brendan frasier film called Encino man could also have been called blast from the past because that was another classic 90s film where frasier plays a frozen caveman who gets dug up by teenagers
My wife was a Director of Nursing and took care of Sissy's mother. She said that Sissy was one of the nicest people she ever met. Not all of Hollywood is hateful and stupid.
Sadly Silverstones career was cut short due to the terrible Batman and Robin. Fortunately for her she started writing and had her own cooking channel for a while. Brendan completely made you believe him in this movie and I’m glad he is finally getting long overdue appreciation for his acting talent.
An undervalued gem of a movie. Surprisingly few people even know about it, but perhaps it's getting more views since Fraser won the Oscar this year. Another one of his you might enjoy is "Bedazzled" (2000). I think you've already seen "The Mummy" (1999), but if not, that's a fantastic movie (skip the sequels tho)
Has it been 24 years? I was in my 20's when I saw this movie. We all watched movies in the theatre. It was either a date, or simply hanging out with friends. Such easier times. We no longer "hang out" anymore. Now its Facebook and Instagram
I love this movie, I'm sure you will too, it is delightful. Sissy Spacek is perfect as always. She is probably best known for Carrie (1976), and I recommend you watch the in the biopic Coal Miner's Daughter (1980) she does her own singing as the Loretta Lynn. I think for another movie based in the Cold War Era you would enjoy is Matinee (1993).
This is such a charming little under-the-radar film. I remember it was on cable all the time when I was younger and I always watched to the end. Everyone is great, but I really loved Dave Foley (of "The Kids in the Hall") as Alicia Silverstone's friend Troy - he's so great as the "voice of reason." lol
You MUST, MUST, MUST watch, “Late For Dinner”! A 1991 hidden gem of a movie. There’s a kind of similar vibe. It’s more adult, but just an absolute joy of a movie!!! ❤❤❤
Brendan Frasier is such a gem in this movie, I've watched it countless times and fall more in love with him each time 😭If you want more Brendan Frasier movies I highly recommend Bedazzled and Mrs. Winterbourne. The latter is more of a rom-com drama and not many people know about it but its very cute :)
This is one of several movies that really showed how good an actor Brendan Frasier is, and I'm sure it's one of the reasons why he's had a recent cult following that demanded that he get back into acting, because he's brilliant, endearing, guys want to be him, and the ladies want to be with him.
A few months ago I thought about this movie and was hoping so much you'd find it yourself. It's just such a lovely feel good movie and Brenden Fraser absolutely kills the part. Looked so much fun to film that role. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
For sure! I was 12 years old in `62. Riding my bicycle to our local shopping center where they had fall out shelters and Geiger counters with assorted food for survival was an eye opening experience . Yet I love this movie and also remember those times.
