As we learned in the last video, molten iron is the primary component of steel, but it isn’t readily available in the environment. Thus, it is crafted from a wide variety of raw elements, which are brought together using a blast furnace. This complex but critical mechanism makes possible the creation of molten iron. This molten iron further gets processed to lead us to steel. In this video, we learn how a blast furnace converts iron ore into molten iron, which is further processed to make steel.
Stay tuned for the upcoming video in our Steelmaking 101 series that will explain how the molten iron from a blast furnace is oxidised in the steel melting shop to use in the steelmaking process.
