Jason and Fred face their final challenge... ____________________________________ Twitter - / proton_jon Twitch/Livestream - / protonjon RU-vid Channel #2 - / therunawayguys RU-vid Channel #3 - / protonjonlivestreams
One thing I love about watching Jon’s streams and LP’s is his voice. There’s this sort of straight-ness, this down-to-earth style that makes every line, every joke, every scene that much better. The Chrono Trigger reference last time and the receiver bit this time are good examples of this. Thank you for such good content Jon and Co!
To think Jon actually started and completed an LP within the same year. Goes to show Jon is serious about his channel revival. I absolutely loved this LP and now it has gotten me into the Blaster Master series. Thanks for introducing me to the series, Jon. You've now got another person on Team Wave.
10:10 - _"Darnit, Jon..."_ The master troll manages to troll _himself._ 26:49 - ...Wait, so we're deploying a flock of ducks after every boss battle? 27:47 - _FOOTBAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!_ 29:41 - _"GAAAAAAME!"_
So after watching your LP, I decided to play along with you through both the original Blaster Master as well as Blaster Master Zero. And something neat I discovered during my own playthrough: Those yellow walls that you open up with the corresponding conveyor belts can be manually pushed into the walls by SOPHIA ZERO once they're open. I haven't tested this yet but this leads me to believe that SOPHIA ZERO cannot be crushed, period. Yet another upgrade to your arsenal, essentially.
49:50 Goku: Androids! Trunks: well actually they're cyborgs Goku: Androids!! Trunks: oh yeah in the past, everyone called them androids. Cell: well, good for them, their wrong! But yeah, I like the interpretation that Eve (and the others like her in zero 2) are biological to some degree. Something I noticed recently is that Japanese media really likes to use the word Android to mean cyborg even though they are technically the exact opposite.
Even if she was fully mechanical, it would still technically be wrong to call her an android. Android means "in the likeness of man", as in male. The female equivalent is "gynoid", which means "in the likeness of woman". (Androgynous means "full of man woman", as a funny aside). It's kinda weird that the word "android" as been used for both male and female looking robots since the 1700's, but "gynoid" wasn't used until 1985. They could've called them anthroids instead, which means "in the shape of human". But I guess it's one of those things that started as male-only so they didn't think to make it gender neutral from the start.
@@leetri @That Leetri Guy I think we can assume people used the term Android in the same way we use Man-Kind to refer to the entire species. Man can refer to the entire human race and not just a gender. So it makes sense the same can be applied to Android. Gynoid probably came about because someone was being very esoteric or was just trying to make their sexy lady androids sound unique while still being Technically true. But, as you may well know, the term Gynoid never got popular (despite Japan's attempts in various anime to popularize it during the 80's and 90's), and we continue to use the term Android to refer to the "Species" of humanoid machines and not the gender.
It's been years since I've played this first one, and I honestly forgot how endearing Jason and Eve both are. It was a good time watching along after all this time.
I want to screencap the edited ending text and send it to Matt Papa and go, "wait, how did this get past the censors?!" and see if he freaks out. But that's also mean. So I'm not gonna do that.
I always thought that spaceship was where the mutants came from, since they say it came from some sort of "asteroid" and took many years to properly spread its influence. Sort of like Leviathans from Metroid Prime. Likely, what is presently the Mutant Lord (who is established to have some intelligence) was the original pilot of the ship, but when he crashed it onto Earth it opened up the dimensional rift and he (alongside anything else onboard) became all corrupted and shit.
That note about Eve being more of an “artificial person” android rather than a “robot” android... Yeeeaaah, that might hold more water than you’d expect. Let’s just say Jason’s worry about the potential ramifications of getting assimilated by the Mutant Core won’t be unfounded... Until the sequel, lads-
28:47 I just went back to the previous room and called Sophia Zero from the save to skip most of the platforming in that room (still need to do the ladder jump however). Couple of other upgrades with Sopfia Zero; the limit for the basic shots on screen was upgraded from 3 to 5, and you can fire multiple Homing Missiles per energy point.
@@ProtonJon it seems more like a reference to the ending scene of the original game anyway where you see the tank perched on the cliff, since Jason/Kane had blue hair in that scene Edit: dang it I jumped the gun on this comment, you addressed that in the video too
It's really cool to hear how you thoroughly enjoyed this game. Say what you will about how I choose to spend my free time, but back in high school, I actually did a 100% playthrough of every single game mode. Once for Unlimited, Destroyer, and all the DLC characters. Game's just fun.
This is actually the first LP I've seen of Jon, he had been streaming for a while when I found him, but man was this great. I really liked the game, Jon's style in LPing and the format it came out in. I'm looking forward to bonus video, but now I gotta go get blaster master zero 2.
that final boss was like an inverse of what usually happens in these games, where you fight a rival or clone character who just has all of your moves but better. expect you're the one with the better moves. also, "android" in DBZ is somewhat of mistranlation, they're cyborgs over in japan and even then they don't really have mechanical parts per se but instead are restructured at a cellular level so they retain all of the qualities of being a human but none of the downsides, so maybe that's what eve is.
One of my favorite things about your LPs is seeing new games I've heard of, but forgotten about before buying. That, or giving me the push I need to go and buy a game I've been leaning on getting
@@pokedude720 There's male Goose Jon, and then there's female Goose Jon. female Goose is more like a goose hapry, and male Goose Jon is just an actual goose with Jon's toque and glasses.
So I got both this and zero 2 because of this lp and I’m loving them and thanks for introducing me to this game and coming back to RU-vid, I missed your content while you were just livestreaming
I wanna believe that Eve's android design is like a more advanced MEC Trooper from XCOM Enemy Within (no spindly metal limbs, no robotic voice, etc). It's the least machine-intrusive possible type of cyborg I can think of. The root-like look of the interior of Sophia with Eve inside made me think of fleshy roots at first, but if it could also control Eve and hold her body still, that is very very reminiscent of things that exist and do look like fleshy roots, in a way: _neurons._ This grisliness works well to offset the overworld look of the Mutant Core AKA a blue Yorpie hitching a ride on Sophia III's roof. Accelerator Blast finale, FUCK YEAH! Go big or go home!
50:00 I Always figured she was something along the line of a Reploid from Mega Man series, like the ones from the Zero Games or even the ZX series. Probably the same difference in the end.
@@scrabblehandforaname Reploids from the Zero series and beyond swap out the traditional rod and gears for their internal workings in favor of artificial muscles allowing Reploids too appear a lot closer to humans. Technically speaking, their performance is the same or even better, but it's in a sleeker and more natural looking package. Humans in the ZX series can swap out their biological parts in favor of Reploid-based cybernetics practically making Humans and Reploids indistinguishable from each other. There is a channel called ReploidRevo that delves into Mega Man cannon and explores subject matters such as what I described above. This is from History of Robotics: 1) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ynRwyh-ADoc.html 2) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cBwb9CGd7N0.html 3) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oX72OExCZU0.html Reploids from the X series are best considered the "completed" version of the Robot Masters from the Classic Series. Human in mind but not in body.
@@scrabblehandforaname It depends of what Eve is physically capable of, if she is capable of having a child with Jason then the closest analogue I can find are Carbons from Mega Man Legend, as they are the perfect fusion of man and machine but are capable of natural procreation(sexy times, pregnancy, birth)
it was cheesy, it was akward, it had about the development you'd expect from a nes game (remake), but I suprisingly REALLY like Jason and Eve's romance, like it was akward in a oddly genuine and endearing way. Weird how this game oddly had fairly likeable characters.
I am so genuinely pleased to be watching your videoes like this again~ Watching this has been a blast and i'm excited to see whatever you've got next! Thanks for the work you put into this and wishing you the best~
This LP convinced me to go back to this game, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It convinced me to buy Zero 2, and I fell in love with it as well! I'm very excited for Zero 3, which strangely enough got announced while this LP was airing! Thanks so much for covering this awesome adventure, Jon.
I just played through BMZ with an arcade stick, following along with Jons LP and it was fantastic. I think I'll stick with arcade stick instead of dpad for BMZ2.
I think you're right, and to be fair it makes sense in the lore of things. you're travelling through an unknown dimension, even by the standards of the previous areas you've been. you don't know what's a viable path and what's a path into the stars. think of it like paper mario in that sense in effect, Jason is trying to find where Sophia and Eve have gone, and the best way he has to find them is to follow the signal from them
50:18 Eve: ......I'm sorry, Jason. Could you please...hold me for a bit? Jason:...Yeah. Me: JUST KISS ALREADY! 51:33 Eve I need to tell you this...and I'll happily say it a million times: HOMING MISSILE - Fires a missile that pursues its target.
Ahhh, the Receiver. Soo, story time... When I first played this game in 2018-2019 ish, I downloaded it while waiting on the airport to visit my girlfriend. I had done this because I was curious if one of my obscure childhood games was on the e-shop, and was ecstatic to find out BM Zero existed. Naturally, I get it and get to Area 8 in one sitting. On the flight back home, I boot up the game on the plane, eager to 100% it. I then get to Area 9, having a blast. Throughout most of the game, I actively turned off the receiver to have the more nostalgic, exploring experience (with the map, but no hints on the receiver). When I get to the fizzled gate, I run around the room, confused. I spent a little over half a year before finally deciding to look up the solution. When I learned of it... I was floored. My reaction was very much the same as Jon’s. “WHAT?!” But this game is still one of my all time favorites, despite that. Everything is SOO GOOD OTHERWISE!!
Great LP as always. Not knowing about this game much before this LP, I am really impressed by how Inti Creates combined the original Japanese and American continuities (seemingly incompatible) as well as the obscure tie-in book Jon mentioned in the first episode. Seeing someone do this for Sonic with the old British continuity would be my dream, but that'll never happen (well, maybe in a fan game...)
The fact that Fred wormhole'd you to this alternate dimension area also helps clue you in, since it looks like dimensional distortion that prevents that door from being open, too. EDIT: 39:45 I'm sad you didn't do a Heavy Rain joke. JAAAAASON! JASON! XD EDIT2: Another explanation is that Kane and Jennifer may have built her, and consider her to be their daughter anyways. EDIT3: Seriously, Jon, thank you for this playthrough. I may have disagreed with your opinion on the original a lot, but it was incredibly enjoyable to have those conversations, and to watch this playthrough in general, as well.
Thanks for doing this, Jon. This LP is why I bought these last sale. 33:25 that happened to me. I actually had to look it up because I was utterly stumped. Turns out that (at least according to the GameFAQ thread that answered this) the receiver always turns off whenever you load your file, so you're right, it was just an asinine design choice that will screw over newcomers and people that, well... forget to shift the receiver as you show here.
Dude, love your streams and it's makes me smile because I named our cat Sophia and in my old age I forgot about that beautiful weapon of mass destruction.
Oh, also! Another comment, since it’s quite different from my big story spiel. If you try to Acceleration Blast Invem Sophia during the final fight, the final boss actually has brains and flies out of the way until you either cancel the charge or after you fire the laser. The only times you can hit it with the move is when Invem Sophia uses Accel Blast on their own (a move they didn’t get to show in Jon’s run), or after you eject Eve.
I absolutely loved this lp, I’ve been watching your streams for maybe a year now, can’t make them too often but there always fun, I’m so glad your reviving the channel and I’m looking forward to more lps
I just want to say this was a great LP and a very entertaining presentation of the game. This advance batch-recording is really working well for you. And this LP not only inspired me to play this game between the pervious episode and this one, but I'm now well into the sequel as well. Also that bit in the ending got me good.
YOOOOOOOOOOO. This LP has been freaking fantastic! I have always wanted to get into this game, and definitely feel like I should give it a shot after this. Loved watching you play through this man.
Jon, thank you so much. I really like thorough LPs like this and Emiles LPs, so thank you for introducing me to Blaster Master Zero. I loved watching this LP very much. I hope zero 3 is awesome, and that I beat zero 2 in time for its release.
This LP was a ton of fun to watch through. After watching this LP I think I solved a mystery from my childhood! On my 5th birthday I got a Gameboy Color. Alongside it I got Pokémon Yellow (2 copies of it actually) and one other game that I could not remember for the life of me except for a small bit, which I lost some time shortly after getting it. Seeing this LP made me realize that that game was most likely the Blaster Master game on the GBC. I vaguely remember a tank like the one in this game and being able to walk out of it and climbing down a ladder and I'm 99% sure it was a Blaster Master game!
I think she's Kane and Jennifer's daughter in the sense that they built her and raised her. Also it implies this (and Blaster Master OG by extension) is a sequel to MetaFight, keeping the original game in canon.
Are you gonna be doing a Let's Play of Blaster Master Zero 2 & Blaster Master Zero 3 at some point????? At this point "BOTH" of "THIS" game's sequels are "ALREADY" out now!!!!! And i figured that "NOW" would be the best time to play the other 2 games!!!!!
