"It's so technical" I believe that was the intention. That reflects the outer appearance of the character: precise, composed, technical and cold in a way. Good thing you reacted to both of them, comparing the 2 versons of Blazblue themes is really fun. Many people like Lust Sin II, but I prefer the original for 2 reasons: 1- the piano playing all over the place in your ear almost feels like snow falling; 2- that last pinch harmonic is just 👌
I actually like this double format for Blazblue specifically. There were songs you listened to in the past that had the II in, (Gluttony Fang and Under Heaven Destruction for example), and I think it would be fun for you to experience the evolutions of these songs and pick out the differences you like and dislike or what have you.
Jesse reacting to one of the OG BlazBlue bangers is everything I ever wanted. Lust SIN is such a good song and I can't imagine Jin with a different theme. Definitely in my top 3, even now.
Probably my favorite thing about the I And II versions of the songs is they feel alot like they progress with the character. Jin (the character for this theme) in CT and CS is alot more cold and focused on his own goals while in CP he's helping out the rest of the protagonists and has overcome his more unstable mentality from the first two games. II feels to me more heroic which is what Jins supposed to be
Blazblue's my most played fighting game and I honestly had not heard that section like you said! Blazblue has so many songs that it's hard to pay attention to each and every one of them lmao. One theme per character when there's like 36 in the latest one on top of rival themes and others, AND a major part of them have 2 versions like this one. I'll also mention, Cross Tag doesn't have much original stuff since it's a crossover game, it takes the character themes from their own games (other Blazblue games, Persona 4 Arena, Under Night In-Birth, RWBY, etc).
One set of songs from Blazblue I adore, but which I've not seen recommended, are Catus Carnival I and II. It's the character theme for the game's resident "joke" character and it's just an absolute joy to listen to.
Blablue has some banger tracks, I'm loving your reactions. Hearing youur opinions makes me feel that the composer managed to portray the feelings perfectly
I have no musical talent whatsoever and I absolutely love daisuke's catalog because while I know it's all incredibly inspired by more songs and bands than I could ever know, it still feels so unique partially because most of the music is made for specific characters. If you understand the lore/personality shown in gameplay in tandem with the music it becomes more than JUST a song or character or story, and I love it
I love the L.A. Vocal Album for the BlazBlue songs, I think you'd also enjoy them! The lyrics all relate to the characters/encounters the songs are composed for, too.
I’d love to hear his reactions to tracks like Yomotsuhirasaka and IN-Justice. Those are my favorite character and vs. themes respectively. Real happy to see Jesse react to the theme of my main man Jin
Ngl both I and II versions of every BB ost are complete banger. They don't just have difference in general tone and production, but also show the character progression of the cast from earlier games to another. They have similarities, but slight differences are what makes both versions amazing in their won rights About "not always Daisuke" is about how II versions were done with a band Galneryus. They're prolly the reason why production quality jumped up after BBCP. Also there are vocal songs and official vocal covers for BB songs. Sword of Doom, Must Die and Black onslaught have vocals + "BlazBlue Vocal album Song Impressions" and "BlazBlue in LA vocal edition" have vocal covers in Japanese and English respectively. Rebellion LA and Susanoo LA specifically are bangers imo
There is a vocal version of Lust SIN, Under Heaven's Destruction, and a 10 other Blazblue tracks, sang by Jason C. Miller from Godhead. The album is called Blazblue: Live in L.A. Anywho, this is the theme song for Jin Kisaragi, the blonde guy in the picture. He's my main in the game. Under Heaven's Destruction is a VS theme against his brother Ragna, the silver haired guy in red in the picture you have there. But Jin has two other vs themes that are worth listening to. But I highly recommend you listen to Childish Killer I and II. It's Jin's VS theme with a character named Tsubaki Yayoi. She's part of the same organization Jin works for, but also his love interest. Story-wise, Jin is a bit of an a-hole and wants nothing to do with anybody except wanting to kill his brother for reasons. But when Tsubaki is brainwashed, Jin gets serious and basically does what he can to save her, even if he has to fight her.
Non-instrument player here to answer your question of "what does this music sound like to you?", and the answer is: absolute bliss! I've been listening to vgm (Touhou and fighting game music in particular) for many years now, so maybe I got used to it and it would have a different effect on someone who doesn't play videogames regularly, but I really love this type of music. Knowing the story of the characters also helps a lot, as I manage to connect it with some sections of their themes. Of course I can't analyse these songs as well as you do, and I may miss a lot of techincal stuff, but as long as I enjoy them it's fine for me!
So for those who don't know, Daisuke Ishiwatari composed all of the original tracks for character themes and versus themes, but in chronophantasma there were remixed tracks (I'm sorry I don't know who did the remixes). So that's why there are two versions of most character themes.
I really like that you went the whole way to hear both versions. A lot of the remixes have their own spin that make them very different. They are all worth listening to!
There are actually several songs in blazblue with vocals, Must Die or Black Onslaught as examples, and some others that have versions with and without vocals, like Weak Executioner, Under heaven destruction and even Lust Sin has a version with vocals. All of them are amazing in my opinion, and tie in with the story of each individual character, or the reason why they fight, if it's a vs theme
Really nice analysis, I don't have one to recommend but I hope you do more back-to-back reactions like this. P.S glad the Under night themes stuck with you, my favorite ost.
Just finished watching your Gluttony Fang II reaction, and it would be nice to see you react to the first version as well! Thing is, there's actually a "complete" version of Gluttony Fang II as well that gives the full piano solo at the start that you did not hear from the initial video you reacted to.
Your question how it sounds to someone who is not instrument player - I feel like that's more about your experience with music, especialy different genres of music, and how much you educate yourself in it. When I was young, I was listening mostly to pop/rock (queen, pet shop - that sort of things), movie OSTs (Williams, Poledurous) and the only "different" group was really just Yello. In that time, metal music was mostly about rythm and feel, either to pump myself to lift heavy stuff, or to better concentrate on boring tasks. So it was literally just a sound wall with maybe one instrument in foreground. It was really when I started to watch some good reactors and music channels on youtube (Tank, Chase, Oldschool nerd etc) and discovered bands like Band-maid, I started paying attention more to different elements of song and composition. Prime example - Before I didn't liked Smell of the Game, after Band-Maid and others rewrote my brain, i really like GG songs including Smell. And now i'm enjoying reactions of a longhair dude called Jesse. Life's weird :D
The video title name cut off at Chrono and I thought maybe it was for a two for one with Chrono Trigger... Not this time, but maybe again someday! Definitely still a banger though, Blazblue rarely misses lol.
Hope someone request you soon to react to Rebellion and Rebellion II, or even Jaeger, those themes are from Blazblue Calamity Trigger, Blazblue Chrono Phantasma and Blazblue Central Fiction.
I really hope for someone to have recommended any of the Temple Trials in Tales of Zestiria. Or some tracks from Berseria like "The evil surging on prison island" or "Magilou's theme", or "Eizen's theme"
i feel this might be the best route to take when it comes to blazblue music given that most characters have 2 versions of their themes but i understand if you dont wanna do this for future blazblue vids anyway great vid im a lust sin 1 fan myself but 2 has its moments
That section was not in the first one. The "II" are generally considered "better" but a lot of ppl are still attached to the Original ver. of the songs.
I believe is because some people likes more the 'Power metal vibes' that the '"II" themes gives , and other people likes more the original ones beucase it sounds more like sort of "Heavy metal" vibes.
People credit the band Galneryus as the arrangers for the Chrono Phantasma soundtrack. The game credits only a single nember though, a member by the mononym YUHKI, he plays keyboard. I definitely prefer the original because of the piano. I like the drums in the original better too, I'm not a musician, so I can't exactly tell you why. My favorite part of the remix is the violin, but that's mostly because it's my favorite instrument.
Blazblue has some vocals but it's alot rarer there's like a handful of them and 1 the vocals are so nonsense chanting that idk if you could call it vocals lol
Only good II theme I can recall off the top of my head. Most of the others were just shitty speed-ups. This one? Maaaaaan it's good. Under Heaven Destruction II and Rebellion II are great examples as to why I say most 2s are significantly worse and too lazy in comparison to THIS. Rebellion II is probably the worst offender in that regard.
I think Bullet Dance II and Awakening the Chaos II are almost on par with the originals as well, but yea most of the II themes are just inferior. I feel like a lot of them feel like they should be part of the original instead of stand-alone songs
