Speaking of around 1:01:47 you mentioned wanting to see or hear metal in an opera house, Septicflesh did a Dvd in 2019 I think where they did a show in an opera house with an orchestra
It's the glasses bro. Quantum glasses singularity. When 2 people in a room have glasses, parts of their person begin to melt together. Some begin to have the same voices, or sniff the same, and some even eat the same meal later that day. I'm surprised more people don't know about this 🗿
They did spend some time at the start talking about being "rivals" which in opera I'm guessing means they both sound close enough to compete for the same type of casting
Him saying apotheosis while describing phase two of Promised Consort made me audibly gasp. For those who don't know the definition of apotheosis is "the elevation of someone to divine status; deification". If you know you know...
"This is What you Are" is still my favorite piece of music from any game. Nothing resonates in both the context of the game and in the context of my own life the same way.
Hope to see Kevin Ray again, was interesting and good insight into the music, especially the last part (the beat tempo) was something I have never really thought of. Speaking as a non-musician here, always fun to look at music in different ways with the insight of your guests in the back of my head.
Artist Analysis: I enjoyed this piece as it embodies the function of chaos in that the melody is unpredictable, yet there’s an underlying structure with the simple yet consistent beat. Each note is the same length, measured yet keeping the listener in a constant state of anxiety or perhaps even panic. It makes you search for a resolution that never comes, much like life itself! CrazyBus Title Screen Composer: Yeah so, I ran some sounds through a random tone generator…
This was a treat! I also tend to absorb vocal lines as musical elements instead of as lyrics with meaning, at least at first. I'll come to understand the lyrical meaning later, but first and foremost I look at voices as instruments, in the same way I would listen for a bassline or drum track.
He perfectly describes how I feel about Fromsoft music, glad to know I am not the only one. I do like metal remixes of them though, maybe the remixers just add that personal touch that I felt was missing.
@@jonnygarcia5 Of course, Goddess of victory, the game's anthem, is powerful. Marco even made a video on it. The harvester's theme song i feel is also similar to Moving Fortress. It also depends on what vibes you're looking for. Colorless is angsty. Why does the world feel lifeless and empty, and will it stay like that when you grow up? Lucky Night is a bop, casino vibes.
Glad you both touched a bit upon why a lotta folks love Yakuza's karaoke. It's seeing which songs the characters like to sing and how they see themselves when they sing it in their favorite bar. Kiryu gets all emotional and remembers a good time or a good person in his life with Baka Mitai, and Goro Majima with 24 Hour Cinderella... well he just has fantasies of being a pop idol on rollerskates. It's an insight to the personalities of these characters who are supposedly some hardened criminals but have a far more innocent side to them. Not something a lotta crime dramas care to do.
I love how Kevin's conclusion was wanting to contribute personally to video game soundtracks. This is exactly how lots of composers small and big were driven to music making, be it specifically for games or in a wider sense. Amazing how game OSTs never fail to evoke this drive. Now I'm rooting for Kevin to get a foot into the industry, would love to hear a contribution from him someday! Thanks for this wonderful guest Marco, hope to see him back on the channel someday!
I love how he could guess so closely even the scene that the music was made for, and love his analysis specially when he currently pointed out that the off balance feel was because of the 7/8 rhythm of Archange. Really would love to see what he has to say about Zero, Daredevil and Unsung War. Honestly if I made music and wanted somebody to critique it so I can make it better, it would be this guy.
his reaction to Those who deny the dawn pretty much says it all about the masterfully crafted work of Yasunori Nishiki - glad to see more Octopath Traveler and I think it would be great to continue showcasing it in these videos :)
sins of the father makes me cry with just pure emotion. not any particular one. well, maybe awe? the orchestration behind her voice. . . THE EMOTION AND THE DRIVE IN HER VOICE. THE WAY THE VOCALIST SOUNDS DETERMINED AND AS IF SHE'S IN ANGUISH AT THE SAME TIME. its a stunning piece. 'words that kill' hits hard as a lyric considering the story of the game.
Wow Marco, this is the craziest coincidence but you got me absolutely HOOKED on Ace Combat music a long time ago, especially Archange and when i was listening to the segment in this video i was finally like "okay i HAVE to get this game and experience the moment this song comes in" and i checked Steam and AC7 is actually on sale for 90% off right now lol.
It’s probably intentional cuz imagine how crazy the lore community would go.. they would obsess over lyrics & implications 😅😅 We already super analyze item descriptions, word design, architecture, statues, etc!
It's really funny being able to only listen to this while working because not only do you sound so similar even moreso with the $15 earbuds I'm using, but he even is saying similar things at times aswell. Great guest
I love these videos, love hearing professional talk about what they know but i was wondering if you ever considered showing these composer/singers/producers who i assume are more familiar with western compositions, eastern compositions like demon of hatred from Sekiro or something along those lines.
While not gaming music there is so much metal music that delves into the classical sphere of things. Like Disembodied Tyrant/Synestia doing their version of Vivaldis Winter. That entire Ep is some of the most exciting music i have heard in a while. But then if you are not into the deeper end of extreme metal it might not be for you :P
The Swedish Royal Opera had the Death Metal band Entomed playing their album Unreal Estate. Not the style you mentioned, but growly and chainsaw shreddy.
Love this vid Marco! just a little info, Urqopacha Day (Windswept Echoes) was composed and arranged by Saya Yasaki, who also arranged the Myths of the Realm non-boss raid themes :)
Marco, i have a great idea for an April Fool's prank if you can get Kevin on board. Just have him do a video/stream with no webcam and see how long it takes us to figure out who it is
Poor baka mitai 😢 outside of being a silly karaoke mini game in a serious yakuza story, yakuza karaoke can have some really deep impact. Regardless, this video was great and I love how even just with the context of baka mitai being a silly karaoke song in a game about the yakuza Kevin was able to find deeper meaning behind Kiryu himself from it.
Always will love these videos and you know I had to bump the volume for "those who deny the dawn". Such a great piece with phenomenal energy. Also on a side point Marco, have you looked into Cytus at all? Its a rhythm game and it's chapter L composed by ICE feels like a full performance piece. There are no visuals just images/a name tied to each track but you can just imagine the entire plot off the music alone. Theres a nearly hour long video of the full chapter and it's always felt like a modern classical piece. Definitely recommend giving that video a listen!
The original recording of the Metallica S&M live album with the SF Symphony is still one of my favourites. I have the record set and I still listen to it often. Imagine that for Guilty Gear
Okay: I have to indulge in a moment of professional jealousy considering that you, out of practice, can still hit a Bb whereas I, actively in choir, struggle above middle C. (And, I mean, yes, I have the low E, in the sense that I can phonate on it, but I don't have any volume, so it's not like I'll ever get to play Sarastro or something.) It's all luck of the draw at the end of the day, but let's just say that I think you hit the jackpot in the way I didn't. =)
Going to the Met Opera house watching the Il Trovatore made me love Opera in my early 20’s and I also love video games. Marco! The gamers would buy tickets to a video game opera music event the fans are out there and we will support. You should perhaps try a small budget with a small group and market it via your channel and see how it goes from there. Your colleagues will take note
Love these vids. Don't feel bad about wanting to share the same songs all the time, if I could I would share Gherman, The First Hunter to every guest without fail.
I think Warframe does actually have quite a lot of story before you get to the second dream, but game players are so conditioned to think of story as plot that it gets missed here. You spend 40 hours learning about what the solar system is now, who the other people in it are and hints at the mysteries of this system in much the same way you would get it from dark souls, by thinking about what's being presented to you. The Second Dream is when you go from learning about the solar system to learning about the deeper parts of that system, and it is a drastic shift but also works because you spent all that time doing missions and seeing what was out there.
Shill for Warframe, do it. Honestly, despite it's popularity and well known status, people really don't know much about outside of those who've put probably a minimum 50-100 hours. Which is daunting to a lot of people, especially considering how much there is total aside from just main story and steel path, which I've still never done and probably never will lol. Maybe one day it'll become the last thing to do, but hundreds of hours in, and I'm maybe 40-50% complete with other stuff lol. The lore is fantastical, both positively and negatively, but it's impactful which I really enjoy. I blew my cousin and a mutual friends mind the other day when they found out the frames aren't just mech robots lol.
Can't believe it was the Crazy Bus theme that dispelled the illusion. Honestly props to Kevin for hearing so much depth in that theme and what it does to you!
I can't agree with his point about The promised consort. They may have kind of the same epic style but what film track OST sounds anywhere like Fromsoftware OST? I have to say most video game music is quite different from film music even the big epic ones and in my opinion way better.
Early souls ost sounds alot like angles egg. But im not sure that really counts because its an art movie, and also CLEARLY was a huge influence on souls even getting its own massive homage in the ringed city dlc But it very much does come from a similar place as older orchestral scores in the much earlier days of film, moreso the arty kind of movies
@@elk3407 Maybe but this is not the kind of movies he is talking about. I see no resemblance to LOTR for example. Also how many movies have Dark souls 3, Boodborne type of music? I feel this is a way to subtly put the music down.
1:14:45 "Why do you keep sharing the same song?" In professional wrestling, that's called "having a gimmick" and it's a good thing to have so people always know what you're about from the word 'go'. Your gimmick, for example, is being all about that hype stuff for your ears.
