The Idea Engine was made to bypass the limits of a grimoire ( assuming that all were mainly imitations with limited taping power). By merging it with Ragna's, it allowed him to tap much further into the Azure's power and exceed Terumi's.
It is different for each character .. Basically it just makes them younger .. Don't know what kind of an attack that is but that's what it does .. Making them younger

Ragna is basically a deviantArt OC at first glance. He's a vampire (maybe. He was bitten by a vampire at one point) with heterochromia because of a magic artifact that takes the form of his right arm, has a world-destroying monster sealed inside him and wields a sword that transforms into a scythe and absorbs people's souls. Oh, and he gets his Bloodedge title from a famous hero who defeated said world-destroying monster in the past, and then turns to actually BE said hero through time loop shenanigans.

His Last (real) name is unknown, He take the title of Bloodedge as a sign of respect to him because the weapon and clothing he's wearing well the Jacket at least belong to Bloodege.he's also called the Grim Reaper due to his soul stealing abilities and weapon called the Blood Scythe.
