To quote a guy on GameFAQs; Cross Tag Battle doesn't have Arcade Mode - no one bats an eye Street Fighter V doesn't have Arcade Mode - EVERYBODY LOSES THEIR MINDS
ChaosLegionaire I think this game just caters to a more hardcore crowd since it's more niche, so you have fewer casual players complaining about single player modes.
UnknownContent ??? Who would come just for a number, a review is supposed to inform you so you can make a choice between buying or passing, a number is meaningless
Yeah, to me the number only holds value if you understand the viewpoint of the person assigning the number. They gave it an 8.3 mostly for lack of characters and story depth, but Skullgirls does well enough.
Survival is so bare bones it isn't even worth talking about. And tactics, training, and challenges all kind of fall under the same umbrella of teaching you how to play. The game is lacking in satisfying single player modes, a void that could've been at least partially filled by an arcade mode, which the game doesnt have.
CidGuerreiro1234 Yet no one bats an eyelid even when this game did the same with its lackluster content, story and other things. The bias is really strong.
CidGuerreiro1234 The reason it didn't get an arcade mode is because it didn't come into the arcades. It sounds dumb to say I know, I do wish they expanded into having modes like unlimited mars, highlander mode, time trials and all of that good stuff.
Not enough Team RWBY. Ruby and Weiss are amusing together, but I woulda loved to see the sisters fight together right at the start. Yang's semblance is practically made for a fighting game.
The amount of people that complain about reused assets and how it takes away from character individuality is ridiculous While I do agree that they could have made the sprites look cleaner with each other (seriously comparing the ruby and ragna sprite seems a bit off) I don't know why people were expecting like a bigass overhaul of graphics. Yes. Assets get reused in games. Get over it. As for losing character individuality, I really don't know what you people are talking about. Rachel still has her wind mechanic that makes her who she is, heck most BB characters have their drives incorporated into their combos or at least a dedicated button like Hazama! Chie still hits hard as a truck, Yosuke is still a speedy boy, Kanji is your good old grappler with a chair that always follows up with cruel attack, and so on. As for undernight characters, Hyde still has his sword chip damage, Linne, just like Yosuke, still has her speed and her roll, Wald and Gord has their horrific range, and Carmine will probably keep his blood puddles, but i cant say for sure. My point is, the only really 'bad' thing is the dlc practice of the game, but at this point if you haven't gotten over that then its just pathetic. I get not WANTING to get it and not supporting the game because of the practice, but you have to accept that in the end the game in all is cheaper than most other fighters even if characters aren't completely new. Would I prefer my money be used on someone new instead? Probably, but as I have never played some character they still give me a new experience! Not everyone has played every single series in the game, and some may have just wanted a fresh breath of air! The game is great, it has its own depth, its own systems, and is more accessible to newcomers while still having enough meat to fool around with. Saying "but the dlc and assests" over and over wont do anything.
Just gonna say that whoever is getting this on PC, the port is bugged right now because only one guy is working on Steam release He's doing as much as he can right now
Game is great, the reviewer definitely has a point with the roster being too small for a tag game but for 70$ (at the time of writing this comment) you get all 40 characters, which is somewhat reasonable. Yes, you could argue the re-use of sprites from previous games should make the game cheaper than it is, but I can tell you each & every character plays VERY differently than the versions already available in the original games, plus new voice acting, etc. The online is also solid, which is usually ASW's main wekaness.
Wow, a fan-service story mode for a fan-service game? What was he expecting? Some well developed story that somehow makes sense using 4 different universes? I really hope this game takes off. The addition of RWBY should do WONDERS for the playerbase. Can't wait to play in 5 minutes!!!
+ItsBigPanda BlazBlue series has a very involved story mode. Otherwise, people wouldn't be begging for an english dub to Central Fiction. Persona 4 Arena and Arena Ultimax's stories are sequels to the original Persona 4's story.
Saying a story is fanservice doesn't make it immune to criticism or prevent people from wishing that it offered more. It felt lacking to the reviewer, and he stated why. If the things that made the reviewer disappointed wouldn't disappoint you, that's fine, but it's still useful information to provide for people watching the review.
*_To everyone hating on the dlc_* The season pass is 20$ for 20 chatacters. That's 1:1. Now looking at dragon ball fighterz It's 4$ for 1 character. (Thanks to reply for pointing this out) Don't complain. It could be ALOT worse.
You have a point, but the comparison you're making isn't fair. You're comparing a DLC pass to the price of individual characters. The price per character for DBFZ's character pass is closer to the $4 mark.
CrossTrash it's also not a fair comparison in terms of the asset flipping BlazBlu is doing. DBFZ is creating brand new characters from scratch. This game is not.
Doopliss moveset and basically everything in FighterZ is brand new People need to stop defending this game's flaws by comparing it to a far better handled fighting game
Regarding to price tag, let's keep in mind they are still better than their competitors. Street Fighter 5 launched with 16 characters at $60, then adds 18 more characters for $30 DLCs. BlazBlue Cross have 20 characters for $50, then 20 characters for $20.
The main issue is that They WANT people to get this game especially the new comers (RWBY being an example) but half the roster is locked behind DLC and that doesn't sit well with most people
Psychotic Gamer What's the best fighting game you've played then recently sir? Please tell me. As a fighting game fan I'd have to agree with him, i loved the beta and have been waiting for this game. The only giod fighting game i would say is better than this would be the new street fighter collection that just came out but i heard that game has its own issues and on top of that i already individually have those games already. Blazblu CTB is. Ee and fresh so yes it is the best fighting game out now especially on the switch
red crimson102 I’m asking for your reasons other than IGN’s reasons what makes this game tick for you and I haven’t commented about this game’s quality I have asked why do you think so
how so? it's a cheaper base game for new players and players on the fence where you can just buy the DLC packs you want, plus the full roster of 40 will cost ya $70, which is cheaper than FighterZ.
FighterZ has an entirely original cast at the start of the game ,and everything following that is brand new. Cross Tag Battle doesn't change its engine with no changes to the characters, yet they are being resold as if they are brand new (excluding the RWBY characters, of course). That is the issue.
FlareFoot57, with no change to the characters? BBTag has completely different gameplay to BB, P4A or UNiB. Just forgot about your muscle memory, when you are playing known characters. It does not work.
After playing the open BETA on the Nintendo Switch, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is one of the best fighting titles ever made by Arc System Works! A definite must buy for Switch, PS4, and PC owners. For me, I'm gonna double dip it and buy it for both Switch and PS4.
Probably gonna end up getting the PS4 version as well because the Switch sales didn’t even reach 5,000 sales yet. That’s not a lot of people on the Switch...
Loving the game right now! Got the Switch Version and i can say its awesome. Literally all my favorite characters are in this. Rwby, Persona 4, In Birth, and BlazBlue slapped together make a wonder fighting game. Its by no means perfect but its definitely a 9/10 in my books.
BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle (Nintendo Switch) Review Scores: Famitsu- 35/40 NintendoLife- 9 out of 10 Excellent! Hardcore Gamer- 4 out of 5 NintendoWorldReport- 8.5 out of 10 Destructoid- 8 out of 10 God Is A Geek- 8.5 out of 10
LilSoonerFanInMO mediocre review from them. Why not flat out and say 8.5 or round that off to a 9 it would have gotten a 9 if it had most dlc available I bet, but it doesn't so it got a 8.3
I wish Central fiction had dub. I almost considered not getting it if it wasn't for fun to play characters like Naota and Hibiki. It honestly wouldn't bother me as much if they had subtitles for what they were saying for their fight intro dialogues.
GrayFoxHound9 Considering CF is 6 games of character additions and this is the first game in the series AND only half of the confirmed characters are out right now that's not a fair comparison. How about we say both games are great and leave it at that? I know I'll still play CF even with this out.
I have one question are the other characters just dlc or can u gradually unlock them time after time? If u have to buy them then I won’t bother buying dlc. All in all I’ve only been playing for about 2 hrs and it’s fun but I wanna know just the question I’m asking.
YES RWBY ugh this series needs a proper fighting game centric to just it's characters. I can't help singing along to it's music although it's definitely not something I like musically lmao.
I'm just happy Yang and Blake will be free DLC... Because that would have been a huge problem for me. Still, this game is being embraced quite heavily by the FGC if combo breaker is any indication then I see a bright future for this game despite the controversy around the roster.
the game is rushed because EVO begs for this game to be ready to play when this game is still in development. thus forcing the rest of the cast to be DLC since they don't have time to port characters and re-adjust them for this game. And i'll tell you, re-adjusting characters are not as easy as it looks
There's a problem with fighting games called the anime fighter curse, which basically means all anime fighting games are destined to fall into obscurity because anime in the past just hasn't had the staying power needed to be a longterm success in the west... Except now we might have not 1 but 2 games that could break that trend. No complaints from me about this game so far... Other than 1 fight feels WAAAAAY too short
Not really. BB sells a hell of a lot more than GG because of its story. Mainly because each BB game feels like a conclusive end to an arc unlike GG which drags on a single arc for 3 games.
JackytheFrost "BB sells a whole lot" BB hasn't outsold GG. GG was dead until Xrd and when Xrd dropped it was at the forefront. And with FighterZ, GG is clearly on top.
I was talking about sales. In a competitive aspect yes GG is slightly more popular but in terms of sales BB sells almost double. And its only really more popular in a competitive setting because most of the BB characters have their own weird sub-systems that take forever to learn, while GG's characters for the most part are much more straight forward. Go to any arcade in Japan and you'll find that out easily with the fact that almost every arcade has 20 BB cabs and only 4 or 5 GG cabs.
During the beta I moved my tv & Ps4 to see if I could experience any sort of lag by lowering my connection signal (I normally need to have a worked connection to play anything online), yet I didn't experience any lag. Really hyped to see how long I can stay hooked on this.
I get why arcsys went with essentially 2 attack buttons that do autocombos, no walking, and a universal overhead button for the sake of simplicity. I would've rather them kept the blazblue A,B,C,D layout with the assist and tag button included instead. You can map more actions to certain buttons so you dont get overlay with trying to do one move and you get another instead. And this is on top of the fact that Magic-Series combos are not that hard to begin with.
the story's plot may have been lackluster but the interactions made the story worth it as it was entertaining. it was funny and fun to play through it multiple times for the endings. also there's plenty of modes to choose from on and offline.
hmm... sounds neat. I was skeptical coming from the main BB series. But this might be a decent companion for some slightly more casual sit down party play
NO THAT’S WONG! Well, for starters a better D-pad. Next up, a more active online community. Another one is a controller that was meant to be held by human hands. I should mention a more stable wired connection instead having to buy an adapter. I own a switch too and I’ve played both versions. The switch version is arguably worse
Combat system is stupidly easy. They should offer players the choice between stylish and technical so both parties can be happy rather than just making an easier version of stylish.
....waaait waitwaitwaitwait.... are the DLCs character that....were already made? Like...they were in the base game from their own game and just...sold as DLC?....okay not only is that bad IMO, but base on some youtubers who played the beta, they don't even rework the older sprites to make them more crisps for today's consoles.
All that means is that most art assets already exist (Still need to create new artworks and such). They still have to revamp their movesets to fit this game and work out balancing. That's always the big one when making new characters in fighting games, especially one as unhinged as this one, and it grows exponentially the bigger the roster gets. This is also why you can already fight the characters from DLC2 and 3 in story mode, they're pretty much done but they need to be carefully balanced before they are made available for PvP play.
This is why i hate Ars sometimes, they made some solid games but always have the habit of unlocking characters thats already in the game as DLCs, and they would release the complete edition months after, then release the new one with new characters, but with more DLCs...
levintine777 Don't remind me lol Guilty Gear XX released like 6 versions of the same game with extra characters. Not even Capcom released that many versions of a game.
I'm planning on buying blazeblue for the switch but after doing research the game doesn't have local multiplayer yet due to the game being beta When are they planning on adding local multiplayer?
most DLC for games are done prior to release, during certification period for example. "Most people" don't know how games are made, or practical business models like Killer Instincts unique approach.
DysDust I just beat the story mode each episode was pretty much the same. You fight then you run away or the other people run away. While the dialogue was charming, it was nowhere near as good as injustice 2's story. The half assed story put together here was predicatable and was entirely texted based
Y'all realize scores all for show lol. They actually don't mean anything. I don't understand why people freak out about games having different ratings.
Been playing the demo for awhile and you made me what to buy the game. The combo in the video, Yhe music in the background, The character roster they have(well I like it). *Mmpphh* I'm buying Blazblue, FighterZ, and Smash.
It makes sense why waste the time and money. Only like a handful of Xbox players care about games like this but why the hell do they have a Xbox in the first place if they want to play Japanese games. You better off with PlayStation and getting the best of both worlds. even PC they get more Japanese games then Xbox
