This one blew me away in its poignance and elegance. Thank you to the subscribers who requested this. We lost Blaze much too soon, but his heart lives on in his music.

"feed the pigeons some clay, turn the night into day" Some of the greatest song lyrics EVER. Most folks don't get it......Pigeons and other birds will seek out riverbanks that have a concentration of clay and eat the clay as it detoxifies impurities and helps them digest whatever else they have eaten that is not good for them. He is feeding his "pigeons" (demons, sorrows, regrets, you name it) some clay and renewing himself. Truly a masterpiece, you won't find any better and lucky to find a any as good!

Thank you! That explains it perfectly, I did not know that about pigeons eating clay. John Prine covered it and said that is a song he wished he had written!! Compliments don’t come any higher about songwriting!

Thanks Don't for bringing us the great Blaze Foley, who is probably the most influential writer that noone has heard of.

This is my favorite song by him. I heard John Prine’s version first. John changed the chorus to say “sing a song for the people I meet.” Instead of “try and hide my sorrow from the people I meet.”

A pity that he changed this part because it takes away the essence of the song

@@kosmosfaber6534 I agree. Although it is still a beautiful song.

Currently reading a book about Blaze. It’s called Living in the Woods in a Tree. He was a fascinating guy.

@Who GAF Same basic story, but the book was much more detailed than the movie, which I also enjoyed. Sybil wrote the book and I think a few details just get filtered out when it’s put to film.

This is great --- I hadn't heard him before, but I'm off to dig deeper. This has a real folk vibe to me - maybe it's the poetic writing or the song structure, but anyway I love it! Thanks again for digging through the archives Don!

Good one Don. Blaze Foley - Could have, would have, should have. RIP. Gone too soon, his life was full of the macabre.

He was definitely a tortured soul and his music rings of beautiful melancholy. His song “our little town” is another amazing piece and his voice in “ooh love” is just purdy.

Blazes story is fascinating, lived on friends couches, even in a tree house, the master tapes from his first studio recording were confiscated by the DEA when the producer was caught in a drug bust, the master tapes from his second album were stolen from the back seat of a station wagon he was living in and his third and last studio album were found by a friend cleaning out his car, when Blaze died his producer nullified his contract and later claimed the tapes were lost in a flood, at his funeral they covered his coffin in duct tape and every body got lost on the way to the cemetery

This is an amazing tune. The versions Ilike best are John Prine's and The Avett Brothers .. Blaze is a legend his unadherence to authority and cultural norms are inspiring.

I have read bits and pieces about this man's tragic life, but should read the whole thing. I love John Prine's version of this, partly because of slight differences in the music. I think their voices sound similar.

You expect people to believe you never heard of Blaze Foley?
@RockN2Country
@RockN2Country 7 месяцев назад
@fredbouwman I have no expectations of what others believe. But when I reacted to that song a few years ago, no, I hadn’t heard of Blaze. Do you expect me to believe that you can’t fathom how someone doesn’t know every musician who’s recorded a song?

Why don't you just be quiet , keep your mouth shut , and let us enjoy the music ? The song and the artist speak for themselves !
@RockN2Country
@RockN2Country 3 дня назад
@williambennett4052 Why do you watch reaction videos when you are only interested in the music? It's a reaction channel, not a quiet-watching channel. After you figure that out, consider taking some classes in how to have better manners.
