Moved to Houston in 72 and got to witness guys like Foley, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Shake Russell and Ray Wylie Hubbard to name a few. To hear these back stories on these artist is priceless. Foley's "If I could Only Fly" is all time treasure!

I’d never heard of Blaze Foley until John Prine recorded Clay Pigeons. Another time something made me research who Lucinda Williams “Drunken Angel” was about. I really appreciate the stories and interviews you make happen Otis, as many people do. Thanks very much, hope your upcoming tour goes well :)

I remember the week Blaze passed. Larry Monroe at KUT was an acquaintance of mine-we were both into Alfas-I remember how KUT did such a wonderful job whenever someone passed. It was a cold winter that year. Blaze was shot defending a neighbor whose son, as I recall it, was stealing money after his pops cashed his SS check. The Austin Chronicle did a great job of also covering it. Such a loss. Drunken Angel as Lucinda called it

Another great video Otis… Blaze was definitely a character, and I feel never got the recognition he deserved, I know he and Townes were really close, but I think Guy Clark didn’t like him, so he never got in with that crowd, which might have helped him get more recognition. But there again, I don’t know if that was what Blaze was about. If I could only Fly is one of the most beautiful song ever…. Don’t care much for the Haggard/ Nelson version though. Much love to ya Otis ❤

I remember the day Calvin Russell called me and said Blaze got shot and died. I called Jubal Clark and Big Richard King. We went and got drunk. We were all good friends. I shot Blaze's coffin photos under the tent adorned with duct tape. Coldest day in history I swear. I could write all day about the funeral. Hi Stan. (former roomie).

Townes Van Zandt once unveiled the secret behind the rumor that some guys tried to steal Blaze`s dead body. Blaze had bequested Townes his awesome guitar, but he Blaze had brought it to the pawn shop and the pawn bill was in the jacket in which they buried Blaze. So, all drunk, Townes and friends hat to unearth Blaze in this cold night, get the bill out of his pocket, put him to rest again, close the coffin and walkling away, one of them drun guys just joked that the should have brought him back to the Outhouse and fix his dead body onto the door with duct tape, which again somebody must have heard and the rumor started.
