Big fans of these Brazilian guys, loved Oniken and Odalus, they really ramped up the production values this time. Blazing Chrome looks like an awesome arcade action pumped 32 bit game from 1996 in an alternative reality we never got. I'm extremely grateful for sure, this alongside Ninja Warriors : once again will reignite my 2d passion this year.

I think the devs still pour their hearts out in AAA games, i mean anthem looks amazing, they're true artists, but unfortunately, the companies that manage the title don't care about heart or passion for games, they only care about surprising us with microtransactions galore

Some arcade games and Capcom ones in particular used slightly higher horizontal resolutions (384 × 224), they always looked extra crisp compared with console conversions. Something to keep in mind if you as a gamedev want to achieve that effect in your game. Do a similar video on Ninja Warriors Once Again, they put in insane work to modernize the game.

It’s such an awesome game. I think it’s a bit like Sonic Mania in that it’s the Contra sequel we never got on the Saturn/PS1. I must admit, I thought the slowdown on the Switch version was a deliberate choice to homage how stuff would slow down back in the day.

Bought this game day 1! Worth every penny. Starting it for the first time truly felt like a brand new Sega genesis / mega drive game. The graphics, sound Fx, are faithful for the 16bit era, the songs are catchy and makes you keep singing them after playing. I've felt like I was 8 years of again and playing my old hardware with a triple AAA game of its day. Congratulations for Danilo, Yuri, and the rest of the Team. All Joymasher games are amazing, search for Oniken and Odallus, also two great games from the same team. Im already anxious for their next game, Moonrider, and they also should release their " fake " john wick Nes game !

This is a great mashup of a game review + how-its-made. I love this style review!!! I would love to see more like these too. Especially for multiplayer games, explaining poor player animation, movement, lag comp, view distance, and occlusion. Maybe an example would be: any popular B.R. game built using the unreal engine 4, any why those feels so unnatural ;)

This game is simply AWESOME! It was a day 1 purchase for me on Steam. I think this game is a perfect compliment to the recent Konami Contra compilation that was just released. To tell you the truth, I have more fun with these games than the graphics pushing, hard drive greedy, AAA titles released on modern consoles. The small install size of this game reminded me good games are not about huge memory sizes but are about passion and fun packed into a game and Blazing Chrome has both passion and fun in spades. I think the curvature looks really cool and something we have not seen on any scan line options for any retro game, it's absolutely a new design and i think it actually brings the feel of playing on an old TV again, something I definitely want to try out. I will also say these new retro styled games are just breathtaking and I hope game makers continue to create new games in these old styles, these new indy titles coming out are really something.

I grew up with Genesis and PSX but missed a ton of great games due to age and finances. John's videos (as well as the other A-tier gaming channels like My Life in Gaming) got me to discover Hard Corps and other classics and learn how to look at and enjoy these games in a whole new way (hell yeah parallax scrolling). If you are into Contra-like games, you definitely need to check out a game called Super Cyborg. Though it's tough as nails, and very often overwhelmingly frustrating, in the end, it's a really fun experience with a decent amount of content.

Well to be fair a love letter to the Contra series already released back in 2015 called Super Cyborg. This game does seem higher budget for sure, but gotta give the proper indies some shout outs since Super Cyborg is quite good in its own right.

Yeah, those sprite-based flames def look better. I'm generally not a fan of particle effects trying to do stuff like this when just great art done by an actual artist will almost always look nicer.

11:23 it's funny looking at classic snes gaming through a modern lens. We complain today about not hitting 60fps and stuff. But they could have said we designed it with slowdown to be more authentic. SNES was plagued with slowdown (eg. Final Fight) and NES with flickering sprites . And we pushed on anyway with 3 lives.

@11:50 I totally agree the new sprites look better than the old particle effects. It's funny how compromising to make the game run better on Switch produced such a striking improvement in artwork!
