incase you guys want the horse and king scenario explained. The king rides the horse because they both have instinct. When the king rides the horse they perform optimally. If the king carried the horse, they'd be slowed down and much less combat capable. When the horse carries the king, they are faster, stronger, and optimal. Its instinct to rely on the powerful, the king needs the horses speed and the horse needs the kings protection. Ichigo was the king to afraid to rely on his source of power, and so the horse had to do his job for him.

Knowing the Hollow side of Ichigo is the real Zangetsu makes these scenes were they’re battling so different in hindsight. Hollow Zangetsu was trying to tell him, trying to get through to him the whole time.... With a lot of swords and fighting.... Because it’s Ichigo....

Year late but still gonna say this. I think Zangetsu was crying for help sort of, trying to make ichigo realize the deceit and open his eyes. Think about it, his Quincy powers basically stole Zangetsu's identity and forced him to the side when all Zangetsu really wanted was to help ichigo live and realize his potential. Its depressing thinking about it

Bman296 if the Real Zangetsu were there he would have curb stomped all of his opponents and had years to train before fighting Ywacht. He might have even been able to advance the Vizard technique and use his Vasto Lorde Form at Will.

@Crystal Kanashii it is to have a different form of instinct. Both have this understanding to rely on one another to be most effective in the given situation. The king to ride his horse and rely on the key powers of the horse while the horse would rely on the king for his guidance and skill. The horse has an instinct to ride forward and utilize itself to best complement the king. The king must maintain his horse and utilize his tools to deliver the best form of attack or what have you. If the king has no instinct to do his part then the horse has to do it for him making them sitting ducks. If the horse doesn't ride the way the king requires then they're also just sitting ducks. I didnt cover some things and there's a better fleshed out comment above but that's the gist.

The king can't carry the horse in battle because it would slow them down to a crawl, and despite the horse being bred for war and having a strong instinct for battle/domination, it needs the king because it can't fight a war on its own. From White's point of view Ichigo was a weak king trying to carry the horse on his back due to a fear of relying on another's strength, their whole mental battle was about getting Ichigo to accept help from his real sword spirit not "Zangetsu" and once he did he was able to hollowfy.

I'm hoping ya read the manga and know the answer now cause the fight following the reveal is rad af. But if anyone wants a short answer... (minimum spoiler) Because Kenpachi was so fucking strong as a kid nobody ever stood a chance against him. But when he fought the first Kenpachi, he realised he enjoyed fighting, so to enjoy it more, he subconsicously decided to seal his power to the ground. It vexes me that people hold that the Canadian pronunciation is "aboot" when our actual dialect should have it spelled "abouut". The only people who say anything remotely similar to "aboot" are from, almost exclusively, areas like Manitoba. 12:39 Hands down 1 of the best screams in any abridged series. Maybe even the best. Lets be real, while there are great VAs, none or very few come even half way close to as good as the professionals. With the screams/roars. This whole endding is asboultly amazing and just hype. I love it and come back to this episode just for it.

Hollow Ichigo spitting nothing but facts and sage advice. Honestly probably my favorite character in this series. Fake Kenpachi was also just amazing with pointing out how Ichigo depends on the aid of others (which is both a strength and weakness I’d say). all the rock music is so fitting for the show. Gets you hyped as hell

The noises that Hollow Ichigo makes as Ichigo's possessed body attacks the Vizored's is still cooler than most of the noises he makes in the actual show. There's echoing warbling screeches and then there's... whatever the hell the show's was. At least in the video games they make Ichigo's possessed body make intimidating noises. In the anime the most intimidating noise he made was probably the low growl he did when first entering the then fan dubbed 'Vasto Lorde' form and the roar he made after that.

This episode honestly makes me hype to see how they execute Hallow Ichigo against Ulquiorra, and when Ichigo faces him again along with Zangetsu when he trains for the final getsuga (If this abridge team works that far, I can only pray). The way the portray White Ichigo is comedically perfect, but as well impressively accurate to original version. To hear all the shit he'll talk in future appearances can only be amazing, and is something I personally can't wait to see.

So out of curiosity I decided to look up the whole 'why does the king ride the horse' quote. It is, legit, a quote from Kubo himself. Here it is in full: “Whats the difference between a king and his horse?I dont mean some kiddy shit like one has 4 legs and the other has 2, or ones a person and ones an animal. If their form, ability, and power is exactly the same, then why is it one becomes the king and controls the battle and the other one becomes the horse and carries the king? There's only one answer...INSTINCT!!!” Just looking at all of this, you gotta wonder what the hell was Kubo smoking when he thought this little gem up. It's this kind of pseudo-phylosophical bullshit that makes you realize how much of a hack Kubo really is.

Ahh, you see, Kubo isn't as much of a hack as you think with this concept, nor is it anything short of an actual philosophical question. Think about it this way: There's a pair of identical twins, who have been trained in all of the same things. They wear the same armor, and wield the same sword, and are just as strong g as each other. The only difference is in personality. One of them is aggressive, while the other is passive. One takes the fight to someone else and comes up with things on the fly, while the other doesn't fight unless prompted and prefers to think about his actions. Proactive versus reactive. Which of them would win in a fight with each other? The answer is simple, but no one truly wishes to admit it. The more aggressive and violent brother would win, because he would press the advantage, using his instincts to counteract any plan his brother could sit back and come up with, because that takes time. This applies in life as well, and the truth is that most people have actually lost that killer instinct. Try just going out on a limb sometimes and doing something that your brain says is right and will feel great doing. Nine times out of ten, it'll be right. Just...don't go breaking any laws. ALL HAIL KUBO-SENSEI!

Of course, real life often screws any arguments and throws in a curve ball, like passive bro sees aggressive bro will attack him in the future and buys a gun. But then he would be proactive and not reactive. On the other hand, instinct is not proactive either. Instinct is about going with your gut, not thinking ahead, reacting. Yes, in a fight, this means no hesitation. That's good, fast action in life or death means you likely live. Except the reason the king is the king, in the argument and the show, is he has instinct AND forethought. Ichigo follows his gut and can not follow it. That's why Hollow boy always loses. Except when there's a curveball. Like the Hollow buys a gun.

Tohvin10 Blorg You're correct but I also believe that the quote, and argument of the show, is that in general life, it doesn't have to be that complicated. In fact, that's the whole point. Most people try to think and plot out everything, and their mind creates fear from trying to forsee beforehand, so they limit themselves because they won't take the chance and just go. Usually the person that goes for it is more successful than the person who tried to plan out every detail first. Because that's impossible to do. And that fact applied in the show as well. The entire reason that Ichigo started to bog down was because his spirit energy was breaking down his body, because he wasn't releasing it with his Getsuga. He had probably already decided that he wouldn't or couldn't do it before going into that battle, and it cost him. Hollow Ichigo, on the other hand, just went at Byakuya full force, and because the bankai of Ichigo was clearly stronger, he got the upper hand. The lesson is, don't let your own mind psych yourself out. Sometimes, just go with it. You'll be much better that way

Everyone that defends Ichigo's ignorance/dumb assery needs to realize this: Ichigo has the standard Shonen protagonist potential, but he never trains outside of literal 3 day training arcs. The reason he was so strong when fighting Aizen is because he trained for a full year while his dad time prisoned him. That's what this is pointing out during the Kenpachi segment. He only trains as much as he needs to for one opponent, then suddenly gets dumbstruck by how strong the next person is. I wish Ichigo had more wisdom than he does, but he's so blind to everything else except for what's right in front of him that it's aggravating.
