Also explained the reason of the "hate" of women stronger than him After mating female praying mantis eats the male So i think its fear rather than hate
Some interesting facts about Nelliel that Kubo reveled on his website's (Klub Outside) Q&A: 1 - Her aspect of death is sacrifice. 2 - Her Hollow hole is located on her heart. 3 - Of all the female characters, she is the one with the largest bust size.
@@KingsKrimson There is a long ass way ahead before we learn about that.. then again saying something like an "aspect of death" doesn't really mean anything to him anyway probably..
Slight correction. Halibel's aspect of death is Sacrifice. Nel's is Lamentation. Also the 3rd fact while true at the time, she has been dethroned by Kiryo Hikifune
That stupid fucking meme of Choso giving Todo the sickest fade of all time in a barbershop just popped up in my head except Aizen is tattooing all of the espada 😭
The contrast between Nel and Nnonitora is interesting. Egomania and overcompensation with bloodthirst mixed with possible self loathing vs selflessness, loathing of bloodshed/killing and true values in caring for others in both comradeship or friendship. Nel is more human than Hollow while Nnonitora seemingly let it die for his own whims.
Indeed. The duality between the two is fascinating. Still, I do think Nel did play a part in making Nnoitra into who he is. Having someone always following you around, who disregards your whole worldview and constantly talks down to you...yes, I understand why you would hate someone like that. Obviously Nel is a good person and I think a part of her wanted to help Nnoitra, at least at first. But, I think she failed to understand what really drove Nnoitra, even after he tried to tell her and that is why their story ended the way it did.
@@jrgenvellesen7800 Especially considering what kind of being hollows are , like let's be real her both nnoitora and nel killed a fair share of hollow to be an adjucha/ vasto lorde , and you do gain a personality after you become one . So it's really apparent why nnoitora hated her so much . As he lives by that principle that brought him to that place in the first place . There is a lot of layers to nel and nnoitora as a pair of characters
What's interesting is we get to see what happens when someone like Nnoitra face with someone opposite of him (Nelliel) and someone similar to him (Zaraki). It turns out being with Nelliel only brings out the worst of his character but Zaraki made him double down and confesses his true desire all along. Truly fascinating character study.
@@morving7714 To be honest, there is nothing wrong with hollows eating hollows, it is built-in population control so they don't get out of hand. Lets remember that hollows are like an autoimmune response of reality to people not dying in the original world, the reason why hollows devour hollows is to prevent the world being overrun by hollows.
Nel and Nnoitra are both great characters. The twist with Nel is great and I think Nnoitra is among the best written villains of the series. While being a cruel, spiteful monster, he is also very human. Edit: I am really happy that you that you appreciate Nnoitra as a character. I so often see people immediately hating on him and dismissing him just because of the "She is a woman" line. When there is clearly more going on with him then that. As you said, there is a lot of self-loathing and humanity in him, even if it is mainly negative stuff.
nel is a villian to him like she said herself shes a masochist and she takes that out on nnoitra he didn't really have an issue with other women it was just her
Nelliel and Nnoitra both embody humanity on different ends of the spectrum. At least, before she became just Nel... Her outlook on what a true warrior should strive for and how she despises Nnoitra's way of doing things as though he were still a creature of instinct and without reason, is contrasted perfectly with how Nnoitra sees Nelliel as a hypocrite... A creature that devoured hundreds of thousands in pursuit of power and evolution, attaining the Vasto Lorde class, the highest peak a hollow can naturally reach; only to then preach morality and justice to a weaker arrancar (himself) who would've likely devoured far less. From Nnoitra's perspective, Nelliel is the most disgusting thing. Outside the fact that he's a misogynist, he really genuinely believes that Nelliel does not deserve to be the peak of hollows, the way he sees it, she was handed all that power on a golden plate and she doesn't even appreciate it. Her words and actions, to the weak, seems like mockery in a sense. Yes, he's pathetic, jealous, arrogant, conniving and evil... But he is a realist, or at least he thinks he is. Nel is bold, honourable, caring, outspoken and good... But she is delusional, at least he thinks she is. That's the dynamic between them. Where Nel sees a human not deserving of respect because they act like an animal without rhyme or reason. Nnoitra sees an animal going againt their nature and playing human condescendingly, trying to act with reason and looking down on the weak and judging their actions (be it for power, survival or whatever) as evil. That's why Kenpachi is such a good match up for Nnoitra. He is exactly what Nnoitra expects of the strong. They do not need to be reasonable, they just need to assert dominance over the weak. That's what he respects. But by the end of the fight, he would realize how flawed he was in his thinking... Because despite Zaraki being the ideal representation of Strength to Nnoitra (male, powerful, etc), he would have to come to terms with the fact that much like Nelliel, Zaraki also holds himself back against the weak, not out of consideration for them, but for the thrill of battle and violence. He is the best and worst of both Nelliel's and Nnoitra's philosophies. Where Nnoitra went to Szayelaporro for assistance to weaken his foe, Zaraki went to Mayuri for assistance to weaken himself in order to give weaker opponents a handicap. Where Nnoitra forcefully handicaps Nelliel to give himself time to grow stronger for thier eventual battle when she regains her power and returns, Zaraki handicaps himself long enough for his opponent to catch up and surpass his expectations before he slowly reveals his true strength. Truly, Zaraki is the perfect opponent for Nnoitra and vice versa. They both fit each other's ideal opponent so well, it is why even without much build up to their fight, it still stands out as a great Bleach fight. Everything is conveyed so well via subtext by Kubo.
Indeed. The parallels between Kenpachi and Nnoitra become even stronger after we learn about Kenpachi's backstory and his relationship with both Unohana and little Yachiru. It makes the fight between him and Nnoitra, one of the best to reread, because there is so much to unpack with both of the characters and how they are mirror images of each other.
Wouldn’t really call Nnoitora a misogynist. He hadn’t show no hate to Harribel for being over as well she was talking badly to him when in that one scene and he just brushed it off shoulder. He’s literally just mad at Nelliel, he just wanted to have a reason to hate that’s why he said her being a woman is why he hates her
@@HitmanJJC I wanted to type, "his misogynistic behavior" but just went with misogynist because it doesn't really add much of anything to my point, but yeah... you're right, he's just a hater.
Nnoitra really did get one of the most dedicated Fraccion in Tesra/Tesla despite his personality, though that comes with the territory of Tesra unironcially simping for him (like their VAs sing a love song) and Nnoitra seeing him as only person he can confide in knowing his insecurities are safe. Contrasts with Nel and how both have dedicated Fraccion that didnt have a long history like Grimmjows group but under very different circumstances. Also surprised you didnt focus on *former* Espada in regards to our sick evil scientist just on that he wasnt at that moment, that he was in it, fell out and then rose again, like the full details of it are WAY down the line but it does show how much the Arrancar army's hierarchy is shaked up...besides Aizen is on top.
I think Nnoitora's weapon is meant to be a very excessive kind of sasumata or man hunter pole. His tombstone teeth definitely help to communicate his character and that massive spoon-like collar combined with his over the top weapon just scream overcompensation. Another note of design that can be very easy to miss--many of the Arrancar are specifically given double consonants within their name as a part of their naming convention. Nnoitora, for example, has the double N. It's for this reason that 'Nel' isn't complete/whole until she is 'Nelliel'.
I audibly cheered when Zaraki saved Ichigo, one of my favorite moments of the series!! So glad to hear your favorite character is also the eleventh Kenpachi!
4 great matchups coming up: 1) Byakuya vs Zoomari: Battle of the Stoic characters 2) Mayuri vs Szayel: Battle of the nerds 3) Unohana vs Exequias: I’d just like to point out that killing the medic is a war crime, so hopefully they understand that. 4) Kenpachi vs Nnoitra: Battle of the Monsters, let’s see which fish kills the other.
It's not that the Exeuquias were afraid of committing war crimes by attacking Unohana, they were just smart enough to realize that you do *NOT* mess with her.
oh, trust me, Kempachi appearing is just the start of the hype part of this arc, there is so much to come, and yeah, I also got really surprised about Nelliel's reveal, BTW don't feel bad about your picks on the numbers list, there was no way to know numbers just from the reveal of the full arrancar roster from the reunion panels, also yeah Kenpachi's fight is going to be fun
Just for constantly hyping up my no 1 KenChan you are already my fav Bleachtuber right now, but your in-depth analyzing is also great and your editing style is both hilarious and immaculate at the same time.
You finally got to truly meet my favorite character in the series. For me Neliel reveal made the espada so human and like real characters that exist in the universe, instead of just the bad enemy guys who want to kill. I also just really like the archetype of a soft character who can go serious mode when it's needed.
I really enjoyed the apprehension when Nel was introduced and you immediately kept her at arms length due to not being able to trust, made this reveal worth it. Very, very hyped for the next videos, I really hope you enjoy the next several chapters
Neliel was by far the most memorable character for me in this arc, I know the most popular picks, but something about the underlying insidious violence thrust onto her by Nnoitra really shook me up after spending so long crying of laughter from her antics. They progressively get you to root for the Espada in a way that you can tell just how much they are a mix of abusers and the abused, all getting their fears and desires taken advantage of.
The shinigamis coming also shows that ichigo's mentality has leaked to the other captains, you can tell they respect ichigo's dedication to protect his loved ones agaisnt all odds, either by infiltrating to soul society or hueco mundo, and that it changed, even if little, their traditional and rigid worldview, they probably realized that innocent humans were involved into a problem soul society allowed to happen (Aizen) and that they needed to correct their mistakes
Appreciate you throwing out those Espada number guesses blind, even if you were off on the exact numbers you got the core spirit of the characters and their general vibe right away just off of their designs. It was pretty sick to see how Kubo's designs convey personality, even before the characters spoke.
So with the tattoos I think it is Aizen placing them on them and being able to remove them (we saw the removed rank for Grimmjow and how it left a painful looking scar on him) Also I would recommend searching what Szaelapporo's release translates to it really drives in the sheer grossness of Szaeyal's powers later on.
About Nnoitora's weapon, it's very much its own beast, but it bears a resemblance to a weapon called a manhunter. A polearm with a U-shaped head meant to fit around a targets neck or limbs, primarily for the purpose of restraining someone. As you can tell, Nnoitora don't use his weapon anything like a manhunter, and it's comically massive to the point that he could never snuggly fit it around someone's neck, but it was most likely the inspiration.
You missed the part where Nnortra called Grantz a former Espada too. I did too until a another Bleach reviewer pointed it out so I don't blame you. Also notice how Nnortra was smiling up at Nel until she said she wasn't planning on killing him. It's the same for when people try and help him he hates compassion so much because he believes the hollows and even arrancars are animals. I'm so glad Kubo didn't just make a one dimensional bad guy just to hate. He's very complex yet simple and seems to want to be hated so much. Can't wait for you to see the rest of his and Nel's story.
Spoilers about the Primera Espada and some things related to Ulquiorra. I love how Barragan consistently baits people into assuming he's the number 1. Aizen is a world-class troll. Also, I can't wait for the reaction to Vasto Lorde Ichigo and his stomping over Segunda Etapa Ulquiorra.
@@Alex-dh2cx This format for spoilers has been used here for literally as long as I've been aware of this site, if you accidentally look at it it's on you. Also, it's relevant to this series of videos, and not an insult, there is no reason for me to refrain from posting it.
Nnoitora's sword is actually a... no actually I Think tite made it up, but the deal is that even after getting rid of nel and climbing up to 5th espada he (unknowingly) carries a big fucking 8 (his old rank) on his back because he is still not over it, and if you check his weapon when he was young it looked like a power ranger weapon called the lunar lance but after he seemingly took care of nel and moved on it grew that stupid bit that points a blade towards him like it's more of a hinderance than anything else
Another cool thing about those two is that nnoitra is supposed to represent mantis and it is know that female mantis are usually superior to their male counterparts and nel is a representation of this
i hope you didn't miss that the nnoitora battle is done in 2 tenses one being currently where nnoitora is the #5 espada and Nel is a former espada and in the past tense when nnoitora was #8 espada and Nel was #3 ... just saying this so when you see noitorra's tongue shows the number 8 don't be confused
You need to be a mad dog to tatoo your own tongue, especially if we consider that he changed it at least 2 times. Anyway, Nnoitra is so toxic, no mercy, opportunism, dirty play, inferiority complex, misogynist, mock the enemy... love him, such an iconic villain! Aporro is very toxic too, another of the best ones, in the bad sense of the term. Nel's reveal was unexpected as twist, of course, about their fight, actually Nnoitra leveled up, she was still strong as former number 3 but now they were more evenly matched. Sure, he forgot of her cero absorption and Nelliel took advantage by releasing first, but as you said in the video, Nnoitra didn't go all-out there, his resurrection is something else. Sad instead that we never get some insight about Tesla and the relationship with his master. Now now, the captains show restarts... as someone already said, since the start of Hueco Mundo infiltration it's an ever-increasing race until the end of the Arrancar arc!
Kenpachi and Nnoitra is such a good match up. Fighting style wise but also as character. Their whole thing is about strength but Zaraki feels like he has too much of it and Nnoitra always feels like he doesn't have enough. It's the guy that doesn't give a s*** vs the guy that gives way too much s***.
12:34 She wasn't even on the list! Cell: YAMCHA was on the list! Yamcha: Wait- why was I? Cell:Half-time entirtenment! Yamcha: 😅 Frankly, I'm just happy to be included
Its interesting you finding out the plot twists for the first time still shocked you didn't know about aizen. Alot of the plot twist already occurred by the time i started reading so its interesting seeing you experience them for the first time and anticipating your reaction when the next one arises
what a beautiful sequence of chapters to cover in a video, from nnoitra arriving, to nel's reveal and finishing off with zaraki's arrival along with the other 3 captains, pure hype
I don't know which fight I want to see your reaction the most. My personal favorite is the Mayuri fight but the Unohana one is definitely gonna get a funny reaction.
I like how one of Nnoitora’s most defining features is his height. He literally is able to look down on all of his peers in the Espada. His intense self loathing and insecurity makes this painfully ironic.
I was reaching the end of the video and wondering if you were gonna make it to Kenny arriving because I knew you would love that. You are pretty nicely capturing the experience of what it was like to read the series as it was coming out.
Both your espada rankings and Nel’s reveal are some of the things I was looking forward too. I’ll be honest I was cackling when watching your numbering video. Yeah it’s crazy just HOW Nel grows on you and how hard the twist drops. Seeing the number 3 was SO COOL (before she got defeated :/ ) Also Peche making Syzel sweat was absolutely hilarious. Especially in the anime
8:16 BTW all the espada have an aspect of death and animals/insects to them. The luppi being like a spider or octopus, the 8th eating his subjects/subordinates like his young. Nontira is a pray mantis a example of an equal opportunity insect that stays seems weak but is always on the lookout for a victim
Glad you noticed how complex Nnoitra's character was. There's too much people who dismissed him as simple because of the whole woman thing. Anyway, his story is not over. In his fight with Zaraki you will get more look on his mind set.
just remembered ... dont read manga for tybw..... its basically meaningless now as kubo changed or added alot of new stuff in anime .....i mean u can still read but ig u know what i mean
The week I've been waiting for! Man, that was fantastic, I definitely agree with Nnoitra being one of the more interesting villains so far, and we're not done with him quite yet. A bit of backstory here, when I was getting into Bleach a few years ago, it was giving me a bit of Twilight Princess vibes, TP is currently my favorite Zelda game story wise, and I could see some similar things with parts of the main duos. But Nel came along later and showed an almost perfect parallel for Midna. Thinking about these things definitely helped me enjoy Bleach even more than i already was, and I'm glad.
The way you pronounced it is correct, but in Japanese, they have to pronounce it slightly differently due to the limited syllables that exist in Japanese.
I might have said it before, but man...I love being able to experience Bleach again through your eyes. I can't wait until you see the later chapters and movies. Movie 4 is my favorite with 3 being a close second.
to clarify some things, it was explained in a databook that the espada are ranked by Aizen through measuring their Reiriyoku (the power in their soul) every character has a minimum and maximum amount or limit possible, so in essence Aizen ranked the espada purely by how much raw spiritual energy they had.
this has been retconned and changed like 50 times by kubo last one i heard was he changed it in response to a question on the kubo club thingy and said the numbers just represented the espadas aspect of death
@@Archaoen0 oh i 100% agree with you that it makes the most sensw logically and really how i see it in my head , i was just commenting on the fact kubo has changed what the espada numbers mean and how there ranked on several occasions even tho in some cases the changes dont really make sense at least to me
@@theamberwolf6825 That is debatable. What Kubo said was that the numbers and aspect of death will always be the same but in what context we don't know. Is entirely possible he just meant that thematically and not literally.
About it being noitra or noitora, that is because in japanese the only consonant that can be alone and not followed by a vowel is N, so the sound TRA doesnt work in japanese. That is why they add an o when talking. Another example is grimmjow, they pronounce it gurimujo- So if you arent speaking japanese, noitra is correct
If I had to imagine how it would happen without having to make it interesting for a reader is that ichigo would be running about and then he runs into nel, maybe it is revealed that she's The third espada and he'd run past her because Ichigo rarely strikes first if you're not explicitly there to attack him and nel probably would do the same, the most that would happen is that she'd follow him because seeing a shinigami that's just like you has got to be weird to some degree and maybe she'd step in if either Ichigo or his opponent was about to kill the other (so ichigo would literally have nothing to fear because he would not have killed anyone unless the grand fisher was there or some other comically evil hollow that touched his mother related nerves, like that one hollow that got taken by the gates of hell itself back in the day)
I do think the signs are definitely there that something is up with Nel but it’s still certainly shocking when she transforms into an adult woman that gives Rangiku a run for her money lol
if you thought Aizen's Betrayal and Isshin being a Shinigami is surprising, then i can't wait for you to see the real plot twists and Foreshadowing Bleach has, and also since you like Kenpachi so much, i will reassure you there are still plenty of great moments for him in the future, enjoy.
No-eeh-tora is just the name broken down into kana and pronounced with a Japanese accent (tr sounds aren't really a thing in Japanese because a vowel sound is always placed after T's in their alphabets, so 'TO' is often used in borrowed words that have other consonant sounds after a T). It's just like the anime says U-du-key-oh-da even though theirs an understanding that it's usually pronounced Ul-keh-aura because the lack of any true L's or R's in their language also.
The reason why the anime pronounces Nnoitra as "Noitora" is because the sound for "tra", "dra" and similar combination of letters don't exist in Japanese, that's why Dragon Ball is pronounced like "Doragon boru" in Japanese. Oh, and also, the tattoos are slightly hinted to be magical in nature and developed by Aizen to empower the espada in some way, because the Privaron Espada were given high numbers as a punishment not only in rank, but also seemingly in power, and in the case of Luppi, it's weird that the seventh Espada didn't get a raise to replace Grimmjow to make Luppi a new lower rank. Aizen decided to directly make Luppi the Sixth.
Unconfirmed headcannon non-spoiler, the rankings and corresponding tattoos are a psyop by Aizen to both promote competition and further refinement of his arrancar army as well as put them in their places (below Aizen) with downright intentionally insulting estimations of who’s stronger than whom. It’ll make more sense later, but I’m sure you’ve probably already caught onto how weird the tattoo system is during Luppy’s time as number 6 where Grimmjow was neither demoted to privarone nor given a new number, as if Aizen intended for him to kill Luppy and reclaim the 6th spot the whole time. The tattoos are doing their job, part of that is also misleading intruders or others seeking to gain intel on the organization. ❤
Nnoitora is so comically evil that it makes him great. Grimmjow, Ulquiorra and the captains in the soul society arc are evil but they are kinda charming. Nnoitora is just a bitch, misogynist, opportunist, envious, he has no reedeming qualities. When i see someone get mad at him and get happy when he gets trashed on by Nel and [spoiler, someone we already know from the past ;)] i just smile thinking Kubo did a good job on making the audience hate him
