Thanks for sharing the video. That gave a really good perspective regarding how tricky the ridge is.

Awww I’m glad you found it helpful and thanks for watching it🙂 It’s a lovely walk and scramble. If you have had some previous experience with high level scrambling and your not too bad with heights you should have a great adventure. It’s a short ridge and like I said in the video it’s over a bit too quick. Just don’t try it in the wet.!! Have fun and stay safe on it and thanks again for watching my video🙂

Crib Goch is as exposed as most folks will ever encounter, its in a different league. Striding Edge is much less exposed than Sharp Edge. I would certainly recommend doing Helvellyn, which is a more physically demanding route before graduating to Sharp Edge. Thanks for the video.
@FurrychalkbagOutdoors
@FurrychalkbagOutdoors 3 года назад
Totally agree with you there Scott. If you end up freaking out on Striding Edge then you should leave Sharp Edge till you become more at ease with exposure and definitely leave the Crib till a lot further down the road. Thanks for your thoughts on the matter. I’m sure it will help others make the right decision as to which of the three they should attempt first and also help them to stay safe. Thank you for taking the time out to watch the video it’s much appreciated🙏 All the very best🙂 Mike

Did the Sharp Edge route up Blencathra on only my 2nd visit to Lakeland and 3rd Wainwright. Late April, perfect weather. No trouble at all. I figure that I must have a head for heights. I'm on 76 W's now. Last summer I did the edge again and followed up next day with Striding Edge. Helvellyn very busy, no surprises there. Two fantastic days, both with glorious weather.

@FurrychalkbagOutdoors
@FurrychalkbagOutdoors 2 года назад
Hi Vikram, I would say that it’s quite a bit more exposed than Striding Edge. However it’s a lot shorter. Just like Striding it has a tricky bit with a bad step about halfway along it. It’s best to only attempt it on a dry day as it’s an extremely polished route. Stay safe and happy hiking Mike

I got a little case of anxiety going up striding edge on my first attempt. I've made it up many times since without any issues but it's making me hesitant to lead myself up sharps edge unguided. Does the edge usually have people on it that can lead the way or am I better organising a guide instead of relying on friendly hikers?
@FurrychalkbagOutdoors
@FurrychalkbagOutdoors 2 года назад
Hi Ally, Sharp Edge normally has quite a bit of footfall each day due to it being a popular route in the area. However I’m not too sure it would be a good idea to trust someone you didn’t know to guide you up it. Plus you can’t rely on that there will be other people around on the day. The route finding on the route itself is pretty straight forward in good weather. The only problem you would have is the exposure on the edge itself. I would just recommend going with someone you know that is fine in exposed situations. That way they can offer you reassurance if and when it’s needed. The scramble along Sharp Edge is a lot shorter than the one along Striding Edge. So if you are ok with Striding then you may be ok with Sharp Edge. Just make sure you go after and during a dry spell with no wind , take it really slow and make sure you place your feet well on each move. Mike🙂

@@FurrychalkbagOutdoors views were unreal,clear skies at the top of blencathra,the summit really impressed me(first time I'd ever been blencathra also)your bound to get lucky with a good day sooner or later,took me about fifteen Wainwright's 😂 In your opinion mate how much worst is crib goch compared to sharp edge?I had a few sweaty palmed moments yesterday but nothing I couldn't overcome,think some of the videos on here make it look a lot worst than it is,or is that wishful thinking?😂
@FurrychalkbagOutdoors
@FurrychalkbagOutdoors 3 года назад
@@rawdog314 Haha yea I’m sure I’ll get a few cloudless days this summer. Like you say can’t be unlucky all the time😃 Well.. In my opinion The Crib is a much more committing route with more potential for a serious mishap. Don’t get me wrong there has been mishaps on Sharp edge but I bet most of em were in wet conditions. The problem with the Crib is its far far longer with a bigger amount of exposure and you can certainly have a serious situation on it even on a dry day. The first time I did the Crib me and my mate had to help a couple of guys down who had got themselves crag fast. As to the videos of Sharp Edge some people use gopros to film the experience and gopros always make things appear worse than they actually are. In my view Crib Goch is a lot bigger step up than Sharp Edge but this is only my opinion remember. If you do decide to give the Crib a go just make sure you go with someone who is good with heights and if at any point ether of you feel uneasy then turn right around and head back down. As long as there is no one behind you as sometimes it can be tricky to get past people😬 Hope this helps. Stay super safe🙂

@@FurrychalkbagOutdoors the last three visits to the fells has been wall to wall sunshine for me,I'll have to start doing the lottery again 🙂 I can definitely see crib goch being a bigger challenge,as you say once your on the ridge there's no way off it and it's a long old slog across the top,the fitness and technical side of things won't pose any problems as I've done quite a few now and actually enjoy it,just the mental barrier of the exposure but I'd like to think I can keep a bit of Composure up there 😬😂 I was talking to somebody yesterday that was a bit shaky at a part of sharp edge who said they'd done crib goch,he said the worst parts of sharp edge are no less scary/difficult than crib goch,just that crib goch is a lot longer,I found the bad step on sharp edge an absolute doddle,there was a bit before that I thought was way more dodgy and got my palms sweaty,I guess different people are set off by different things 😂😂 Nice one for the advice mate and I hope the big yellow fella in the sky makes an appearance on your next outing 😉👍🏼

Hey Yasmin🙂 This one or Striding Edge possibly would be ok for your first edge experience. Both should only be undertaken in dry conditions. Hey John thanks for watching my video. It’s not nit picking at all fella. It’s actually something I’ve picked up on myself already and it’s something I’m currently getting therapy for. I’ve been informed by my shrink that “same word affliction syndrome” is something often found in new content creators on RU-vid. He has reassured me that over time and once I’ve completed another eleven two hundred and ten pound an hour sessions with him I will be cured from the affliction. I’m sorry to hear that my SWAS has caused you so much anguish while watching my videos but all I can say is it’s been noticed and is currently something that is being worked on. Again thank you so much for your comment and for watching my video it’s very much appreciated🙂 All the very best Mike
