In my Seminary days in the 1960's I was a Protestant chaplain at a Catholic School for Girls, Gilmary, outside Pittsburgh, Pa. We would have lunch with the Sisters and the students, and everyone was in awe of Mother Superior who looked as if she started out with St. Peter himself. What marvelous memories this episode brought back. Rest in Peace, dear Sisters, you did well!
In general I take delight in the accurate attention to ecclesiastical detail. This is undoubtedly because the series was written by an ex-priest of the period, Peter De Rosa. My favourite episode of all is this one - in which the incomparable actress Sheila Keith takes over as star of the show playing Reverend Mother Stephen. Those of you who are theologically-minded will especially relish Mother Stephen expounding on the doctrine of grace (00:07:52 to 00:13:12). She clearly knows what Fr. Duddleswell does not!
Daniel Abineri (Father Neil) an actor so beautiful even the camera has to have a lie down for fear of over heating, such a great screen presence, he sticks out like a sore thumb, he's clearly the most attractive member of the cast. His most famous part was as Jake Sanders in Return To Eden. How this handsome gem never made it big in Hollywood, I'll never know. He would have made an interesting James Bond or even to have been considered for the role would have brought him back into the limelight, he'd have made a better bond than Timothy Dalton... maybe. Still, whatever he does these days, I hope he's healthy and well.
@@thepathanforce5646 That's good to hear, I wish him and yourself continued good health and I hope life remains kind to the both of you. Thankyou for commenting.
@@thepathanforce5646It really is good to know that Daniel Abineri is well..... didn't he go into writing and producing? Whatever he chose, I imagine it was good.... he was a lovely Father Neil ❤
Father Neil " I've always wondered....do nuns have hair underneath their veils ? '' Father Duttlelswell " What nuns wear under their veils, is a as mysterious as what Scotsman wear under their kilts. '' lol
Took me awhile to figure out where I’ve seen Mother Steven before and it’s a jaw dropper, in 1973 she played a serial killer cannibal in a move called “Frightmare”. Shock 2 came with the actor who plays Father Neil and his IMDB picture, it’s worth a look. This is very well written and the performance everyone gives are outstanding.
"July'll be soon upon us, mother.." "At the end of June, father." The mother superior is the marvellous Sheila Keith, who appeared in several horror films in the 1970s, and in the series The Flaxton Boys as Petty Officer Mincing-Stern.
Shouldn't the title read Bless Me Captain? I wonder what Sgt Wilson would think of his superior taking Holy Orders and purporting to hail from the Emerald Isle? Meeting up with Richard Bucket (Bouquet) too. Top of the morning to you, Captain!
In answer to Father Boyd's question yes nuns have hair under their veils, my mom was a catholic nun for 30 years, she had hair but wore a wig cause she was embarrassed it was thin.
