I'm watching this in august 2024 where in the UK there is now mass censorship , tyranical government and comedy is a thing of the past..But for now im transported back to the good old days watching Warren Mitchell at his best ❤ xx
I am black, Afro Caribbean to be exact and I can’t catch my breath watching this. It’s very funny! I embrace the satire, he speared no topic; disability(his wife), misogyny, racism, political ideology, homophobia, blasphemy ... by the way I LOVE HOVE THE MALE SOCIAL WORKER KEEPS HIM INLINE...compared to the others he drove away.
I wish more people were like you the world would be a nicer place The trouble is people have lost their sense of humour because of all this pc crap Well done mate
I think when people see those programs and call it abusive and racist they are failing to see that the one being laugh at and scorned is the ignorant racist
I'M Irish stock and what he said was very funny, when I was growing up in the 70's if anyone talked like Alf people would make fun of them this programme helped turn Racism around, remember he was Jewish the most persecuted race ever to walk the earth.
Dad wouldn't allow Alf on in the house for religious reasons. Hence I am seeing this for the first time at age 62. How wrong my father was. This is top class comedy and comparable with Molières's monomaniacs. Thanks for sharing.
Warren Mitchell was playing the part of a bigot. I remember an interview he done and he couldn't abide people who identified with Alf. And Alf got his comeuppance every episode and it was hilarious 😂
Absolutely love Alf Garnet, can't stop laughing at his unashamed bigotery, it does me so much good to laugh, especially today with all this BLM and racial hatred. Best to just laugh at the biggots, does you good !!!
IT WAS THE FAULT OF THE " P.C " BRIGADE THAT CAUSED THE GREAT RACIAL DIVIDE. I'M MIXED RACE AND WAS BORN IN THE 60'S, "WE" AS A NATION GOT ON, AND ALONG ALOT BETTER. ALF GARNET WAS JUST SHOWING THE BIGOTS AND RACISTS OUT THERE HOW OTHERS LOOK AND LAUGH AT THEM. BLESS YOU xx
According ro Warren Michell's own testimony it was actually right wing bigots who were too thick to understand that Alf Garnett was a satirical figure. How the hell you can accuse some "PC brigade" of opposing this program is totally beyond me. And by the way, 'ALOT' is not a word.
A superb representation on an inward look at those with bigoted attitudes, far from being racist, homophobic etc etc it was actually a jibe at people of that mentality Which is why everyone found it funny, much like it ain’t half hot mum, porridge, steptoe and son and many more, shame we can’t have these sort of programs anymore due to all the politically correct snowflakes who miss the point entirely
They were actually laughing at the crude way he expressed himself, but with sympathy for him at the same time. We could all understand where he was coming from.
@Maxwell Boyne this wouldn't be made now because it has already been made. If there was a taste for it something similar would be commissioned tomorrow. Times change, you can either move with them or live in the past
People say that alf garnet was really taking the mickey out of the racists, ie, the laugh was on them. However black people, asian people have watched the show and no one hates him, in fact they probably find him a likeable character, because he is an unusual character because he speaks his mind. Using all that racist language, all it done was cause people to copy it, so if anything Warren Mitchell probably added to the racism in those times with this show. I remember those times, because I lived through them and whites, blacks, asians all laughed together at the same things, we were more of nation then, than we are now, now all we have is division, because PC has divided us all. They tried to fix something that didn't really need fixing, in the end it would have righted itself naturally, but by using force, punishments, criminalising speech, it's caused and is causing division and massive mistrust within not just our nation, but all over the western world. The reason for that is, we can't be ourselves, we can't say what we think and and even sometimes you can say something and it's twisted.
Hey cabbage boy...............You do know that it was written as a pish take towards right wing bigotry and ignorance. Yet people like thee are too thick to realise it. The writer Johnny Speight was a socialist. He wrote the Alf Garnett character. To show off right wing bigotry and ignorance. He did a great job................and by the look of your comment. Such ignorance, prejudice are still alive and kicking.
He must have been a socialist with a sense of humour unlike yourself there is such a thing as humour without making it political you must live in a gloomy place if you can’t laugh at humour you poor misguided soul
I just "tubed" this because I had read "all in the family" was based upon it. Merry Old England... Walking through the Mayfair district I saw where the brownstones in NYC came from, looking around the airport I saw how parts of Queens NY were formed lol. This show is fantastic. I really have a newfound appreciation for All in the Family now. Long live British Satire and Music!
Aww this is so funny. Yes it really cheered me up. You need something like this in these uncertain times. Pandemic. Our borders are still closed. Actually this is do inappropriate Racial abuse. You couldn't say those things now. You would be arrested or taken off air. The TV program would be banned. They don't make programmes like that anymore. Great British comedy.
@@stewartmcrae8007 Eddie booths son is married to a beautiful brown woman, ironic isn't it, Anthony booth went on and on about labour and wasn't it ironic that his daughter married Tony Blair
Yes indeed jack smethurst’s son is married to the lovely Rakie ayola and Anthony booth’s daughter went on to marry former prime minister Tony Blair so I guess you could say things went downhill after he starred in til death us do part and the confessions series of films I know that if I were him I would rather be remembered as Alf garnett’s son in law rather than the father in law of Blair
I know he is sadly gone now. But would love to hear what he would have to say about what’s going on right now. As someone else has said so need him right now. Long live Alf Garnett. P. S Eamonn Walker bloody brilliant.
@@imagecollections6665 - you meen the bleedin' royals ??? Arww ,,, i don't really mind them , just 'bric-à-brac' for us visiting Windsor and Eton and them places ,,, well , my old aunts in Goymany are all crazy 'bout them , and some of them Yanks in 'Trailerama' ....
This should be allowed today :( they show things like 'shameless' and don't care if it offends Christian homes. But this isn't allowed cos it offends foreigners!
Lizzie Birdsworth that’s because the intelligent part of the country understands there’s no such thing as god and most of us have read the bible and realised it’s the big loads of crap lies fairy stories and bullshit ever written. All religions are the same a form of mass control, I mean what works better the threat of going to prison or been told you’ll burn for eternity? Charles Darwin started the downfall of people realising the bible is a big old load of bollocks.
Its rib tickling and must have near the loo before we wet ourselve laughing,he talk with authority and revelation alf garnet is a gift from heaven this festive christmas 2019.....yeeehaaaa god has a sense of humour...if your tire of living, this a tonic to our soul.
@@markallinson1972 think I will, the episode when they were in the pub saying about getting into heaven without all your bits made me laugh, I’m waiting on a kidney transplant lol
A lot of people think about 'Till death us do part' and this, but i guess plenty don't realise that there was a series in between them just called 'till death'. The episodes are on here but only have a couple thousand views. Same writer, Johnny Speight, Alf and Elsie have moved to the seaside and are sharing a house with their sex mad neighbour from 'Till death us do part', Min. They even got Una Stubbs back for a couple of episodes.
@mastermind I think it's a bit late after 5 an a arf years to tell him/her what buana means, just hope he/she hasn't tried copping off with the opposite sex by saying "wana" wana come home with me?
So funny and true .not like the shit on tv now .when you said what you wanted to say and people never got offended. Not like today people can't laugh at themselves
A lot of people don't understand that the whole point of this comedy was to highlight the bigotry of the day. It's satire, showing everything that was wrong with people's views.
alfs lost to proud to ask for help you only know what ist like when it hits you lost alf was different all he new was changing around him no how he felt
