Great video, Brian. These are all great systems, but I would like to point out that you only looked at our 10 gallon 240v. Our 10 gallon 120v is $999 and beats the rest hands down (from a price perspective). Price isn't always the most important aspect and, again, these are all great systems. But I wanted to point that out for the sake of clarity.

I really am interested in seeing more of this. It would be really cool to see a video comparing the different units on a brew day. Even if it was different channels coming together to demonstrate each system under some standard judging sheet. I really want to upgrade from my robobrew so I can do big stouts and this might be an opinion.

Excellent as always but the part I'm trying to wrap my mind around is beyond one system is fancier with a few more bells and whistle how can I justify a Breweasy Compact or like systems over something like the Anvil Foundry as they both can make great beer. I do get that the Breweasy using something like the Riptide is a better pump, a whirlpool setup, a site glass, and a controller that might offer some flexibility with pre-programming but all of those items are extra. I love the system and before I bought my Grainfathers (eventually moving to the Anvil Foundries) I had looked at the Blichmann Breweasy (non-compact) many times before pulling the trigger on my first electric system. I'm simply trying to line up the comparisons and help justify the additional costs beyond the cool factor.

The one thing Unibrau has over this is their hopblocker that won’t fit this because of the boilcoil. I would love to see Blackman make something similar to use to block all the hops from entering the diptube. Sure you can use a spider or mesh bag, but for those big NEIPA hop additions, they get clogged up and I prefer to toss the hops in the kettle for better utilization. Anything that you know of that can be used as a diptube filter to block hops from getting sucked into the pump and eventually the fermenter would be a great video to upload.

Very interested in seeing more. How long do they take to get to various temps (both 240 and 120)? How easy are they to use when step mashing and doing decoctions? What is cleanup like? It seems like every year I put some money aside to buy one of these systems and every year I talk myself out of it. Thanks again for a great video.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers
@ShortCircuitedBrewers 2 года назад
I cover the cleanup in my latest video. The hearing times will be different obviously. One significant difference with the blichmann 120v system is that it uses a 2000 watt element. All the other systems use 1650 watt elements. 350 watts might not seem like much but it does make a difference. I'm trying to get a 120v setup from Blichmann now. (You have to get the controller and the coil for it to work so I can compare. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do a deeper dive into it.

It’s the grain basket I like most. I’m torn between the Blichmann and the Spike Solo. I feel Spike Kettles are better simply because the sight glass on the Blichmann creates an unnecessary “contamination” site, but I definitely think the 400 micron basket is way better than the spike solo basket because of the option to whirlpool around the grain basket and Recirculation through the grain bed at the same time. IMO Spike really screwed up not going with a 400 micron mesh screen bottom. With Blichmann, it’s just dough in the malt and hit the pump. With Spike it’s dough in the malt and wait at least 10 minutes before hitting the pump. Personally I’m probably going to build a Brew-Easy Compact using a Spike Kettle, Custom (Arbor-Fab) 400 micron Grain Basket, and Blichmann Pump, Valve’s, Boil-Coil, and Brew Commander. Cheers! 🍻

@doug5379
@doug5379 2 года назад
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers Hi Brian, No, I have not heard of contamination from sight glass on Blichmann. I should probably clarify. What I mean is the sight glass design on Blichmann kettles creates the “opportunity” for contamination or off flavors because of the small hard to reach areas for cleaning. I know a brush is supplied, but IMO, why create two additional holes in a kettle with an area that’s hard to clean when smooth “etched” gallon marks on the inside are easier to read and clean. It’s all personal preference. For me, the Blichmann Grain Basket is a winner over the Solo basket, but I’m going with Spike over Blichmann for the kettle based entirely on the sight glass feature I do not care for. If Blichmann offers a kettle without a sight glass, then I’m all-in. Cheers! 🍻

These videos are fantastic Brian, Thank You! This is going to be my next move. I am a moderately experienced extract brewer for a few years and want to start in All grain and my research is leading me towards something like the Brew easy compact or similar. SS says they are coming out with a Single vessel BIAB style electric system as well, I hope you can get your hands on one of those whenever it comes out and do another video like this. Beside size and cost, can you tell me why one might go with the Breweasy classic over the compact? I have read some things saying maybe slightly improved efficiency and clearer wort? A Brewtools B40 for $1600 blows all of these out of the water IMHO. Fully integrated, incredible quality, more customizable, and a controller you can now push recipes to from Brewfather. It depends on what is important to you. The weaker integrated pump vs a riptide is a huge turnoff to me. Brewtools controller location is goofy as well, imo. The systems that Brian highlighted are easily transferred to boil kettles in a 2v or 3v system and are much more versatile overall, which attracted me to them. I went with a Solo, and never considered the Brewtools. The brewtools is nice, but not for me.

Tempting. I already have a Riptide but it seems like the only way to get the return tube and port is with the recirc kit, which includes a Riptide and the very annoying-looking flow meter. I guess you need the flow meter because you can’t see the recirculation? The basket + catch and whirlpool arm would be nice upgrades from my original-design Foundry. And it’s short enough that I could brew on a bench instead of the ground. I’m mostly concerned with how annoying to use/clean the recirculation system is.

I've done several videos on the system. The recirculation tube is not hard to clean at all. The bottom of it pops of and you can run a brush all the way through. I do believe you get the recirculation tube and the fitting it goes into without getting the recirc kit.

I love how the Breweasy uses fancy TC fittings on the inlet of the flowmeter but the flowmeter attaches to the kettle with a plain SS street elbow !
