I'm worried about the usefulness of this idea in a modern context. A few 747's could deliver that cargo in a single trip, and blimps are super slow, so in a disaster where seconds mean lives, I just don't see cargo blimps as being something super pragmatic.

I saw the Goodyear airship in the background and, that airship, is the only airship I've ever seen, in person, flying in the sky.

This is the same guy who made his own sister and another work person do a “helium dive” inside one of his airships, (That’s when you enter a fully inflated AIRSHIP envelope filled with a lifting gas, in this case; HELIUM to check for defects inside the bag or envelope, unless you are equipped with an appropriate oxygen facility like a scuba gear type apparatus this can be very dangerous as you cannot breathe HELIUM)! and they both died of helium asphyxiation! This happened sometime around the Early 2000s it is well documented! I have newspaper clippings from when this tragedy occurred

It would be interesting if the passenger blimp could be brought back as an eco-friendly alternative to airplanes. Think about the possibility of luxury airship cruises. What if you could make an all electric blimp powered by wind turbines? What if your luxury airships has a different theme for each airship like a steampunk airliner, or a Final Fantasy inspired airship where the hospitality staff cosplay as characters from Final Fantasy games? These ideas will probably go over like a lead balloon (pun intended), but they are fun ideas to think about.

Do you think i have seen a blimp. It was a big sphere around 5 meters and no cord or anything on it. Just a giant sphere going in a straight line....

2EnjoyEverything yes, but you gonna refuel the Helium and stuff, you know that Pixar movie called “UP” they have a Zepplin you could live on and cruise airships exists like the Hindenburg in 1930s but none today, that’s why when I finish the army I am gonna work and design for Zepplin NT! Maybe...

Dan Odden no, a zeppelin was a rigid air ship, a blimp isn’t, a zeppelin can put a frame inside of it and out rooms and is very efficient with the space you can use in it, a blimp is non rigid so there’s not really an internal frame and you can’t put a lot of stuff inside of it. Blimps and zeppelins are very different

With modern forms of aeroengineering the concept of the blimp just seems far too unpractical to me. We have other faster, far more durable, far more compact methods. And if a lot of cargo must be moved and space is a factor, we have both small and larger crafts that don't particularly need special landing requirments.

Are cranes impractical? Why use a crane when a helicopter can do the job? No we don't because that would be insanely expensive to keep a helicopter in the air moving cargo all day, compared to a crane. Blimps/Zeppelins are a lot like cranes. You can keep them in the air very long holding heavy cargo for long periods. There are concepts using these airships for carrying whole houses or structures pre-fabricated and just delivering them right on the spot. You can't do that kind of stuff efficiently and economically with a helicopter or airplane.
