Jil Sander Sun is inspired by the smell of European suntan lotion from the Bain de Soleil line (1920s-2019). Americans wouldn’t be familiar with this generally. The now-defunct House of Jean Patou also had an oil, then a perfume, called Chaldée, based off this same thing.
I purchased Sun online as a blind buy, because I liked the scent of the Jacques Dessange Nutri Extreme shampoo, and people kept saying it was the same fragrance as Sun by Jil Sander. While I liked it in a soft, creamy conditionner-scent version, it was a fail for me as a perfume. Too strong and cloying and I thought it would bother people around me. I own Ciara by Revlon also, but I don't find them similar at all sorry
I've never smelt Ciara so I can't comment on that one I'm afraid, but it did really remind me of Lou Lou.... possibly just because they're both strong and cloying and a bit floral and powdery!
I first heard Sebastian The Perfume Guy talk about Sun, which is what got me interested in the house of Jil Sander. I ended up going for SunBath instead, and I love it! I’ve still never smelled Sun, but I have Ciara, which people say is similar. Anyway Sunbath, also smells like a pool, and I knew that going in by the reviews, and I think that’s what makes it special to me. I can see how not everyone would love it though.
I'm really interested in getting jil sander simply edt because it has a similarity to Fahrenheit by dior according to Fragrantica. I have the Sun version in the white bottle and I have to agree with you😅 yes it has an 80s vibe!
I think Jil Sander has one for everyone unique, Delight is me, that smell is which satisfy me the most and remind me if myself it’s weird but I just feel like i know i found my scent I want everyone to smell on me the white one i agree it smells like toilet to me 😵
I've blindly bought this Sun after reading reviews about it's sun lotion smell, it's s summer vibes etc. I Wish i saw your review first. For me it smells like granny's chest. I tried to wear it, i tried to recognized sun lotion in it but nothing but old woman's smell. I also tried it as a room smell because some ppl said it smells cosy and warm, but it doesn't work still for me. Maybe I'll try it with another weather.
I guess it’s one of those perfumes that smells really different to different people…. I didn’t get anything beachy or pool-like or sun-lotiony from Sun but so many other people do! it’s so interesting!
