In Germany, when 2 Metalheads marry, and have a baby, the first thing it learns, before walking, or even having teeth, is the Lyrics of 'The Bards Song'.

I met my wife at this Wacken, and this was the first band we watched together. The Bard's Song played at our wedding last year. Blind Guardian have pretty much always been my favourite band, but they've left their mark on my life irrevocably in ways that I can't quite put into words.

Legend has it that when you stand on that field at Wacken, close your eyes and listen you can still hear the crowd singing in the wind.

I was on 12 blind guardian concerts and never survived bards song without crying...

Lead singer is Hansi Kursch. He's also sung with Ayreon, and you have to be good to get invited for that. Ayreon is project of Dutch musician Arjen Lucassen. One of the Ayreon songs that Hansi sings on is The Day the World Breaks Down , with 10 other vocalists, including Simone Simons, James LaBrie and Floor Jansen.

I saw Blind Guardian for the first time in 2006 - they played a small club in St. Paul, Minnesota to about 200 people and when "Bard's song" came on, the whole audience sang it loudly (I didn't know the song 😁)... Very special moment. When they toured America in 2015, I went to a show in Baltimore, Maryland... and the club was packed. The crowd was so amped during their performance... and then, their entire merch booth sold out that night 😲

The Bard's Song was released in 1992, and Valhalla in 1990. These are classics that all the Blind Guardian fans know and love and sing along with. When I got to see them in person, during the crowd singing part at the end, the band walked off the stage and turned off the lights. We kept singing for about 5 minutes before they came back out to finish. They have a new album coming out in September, called The God Machine. They have released 3 tracks/videos from it already, and they're all great. I particularly like 'Secrets of the American Gods'.

This was at Wacken Open Air 2016, where 84500 visitors were in attendance, and this was on the main stage where the majority of those people fit in front of. And I didn't see that much empty space. So if there weren't 60000 then call it 50000 people, who almost universally know your song by heart well enough to sing along. Largely in tune and in time. Hansi, the man with the mic, was honestly mostly superfluous to the proceedings. What greater accomplishment could a musician aspire to, than to have your music so ingrained in the souls of so many people? And this is off an album that just celebrated its 30th birthday (released june 30th 1992). Therefore I confidently dare call it a truly timeless classic.

Blind Guardian was formed in West Germany in the 80's... they have had a career in heavy metal for 30+ years, emerging from the 'power metal' scene that had given us German metal bands like Helloween, Gamma Ray, Primal Fear, and Grave Digger... The name Blind Guardian was inspired by the band Fates Warning and their 3rd album title 'Awaken the Guardian'. Their lyrics were inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy novels. Blind Guardian debuted in Europe in 1988 w/ the album "Battalions of fear" ... 'Valhalla' was from their 2nd album in 1989, 'Follow the blind'... However, the band did not get much fanfare in the 90's in the wake of grunge rock becoming commercial... but German label century Media was finally able to release their 6th album in N. America - 'Nightfall in Middle-Earth' in 1998, and the band began touring there for the first time... the response was promising, and Century Media released Blind Guardian's catalog in the USA after 2000... Each subsequent album did better in sales and each tour got bigger after 2002 after the album 'A night at the Opera' (which was also Queen's album title 😂) The nucleus of Blind Guardian are: Hansi Kursch (lead vocals), Andre Olbrich (lead guitar) and Marcus Siepen (guitar)... Frederik Ehmke (drums) joined in 2005, replacing longtime drummer Thomen Stauch; the band has used session players for bass, keyboards, backing vocals, etc. Some Blind Guardian classics: 'Into the storm'... 'Imaginations from the other side'... 'Nightfall'... 'Fly'... 'Mirror mirror'... 🤘🤘 Lead singer Hansi Kursch also worked on albums by Demons & Wizards, w/ Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer... Unfortunately, Schaffer was indicted, jailed and charged in 2021 as part of the 1/6 terror mob attack on the US Capitol... Kursch resigned from the project in the aftermath. Iced Earth (which had been signed by German labels SPV/ Steamhammer and Century Media) and Demons & Wizards, were dropped from the roster of artists.

Hansi just looks like that dad who grabs the mic at some school event or something and everyone goes "oh, I hope he doesn't embarrass himself" and he just blows everyone's mind. Which is why I actually prefer his new look to the old classic long haired metal head look. Dad-Hansi for the win!

Hansi is one of the best. He looks like he could be a schoolteacher but he and Guardian have been doing this for years.

"This makes me so happy! I don't know why." The passion is contagious. BG has a live experience like few others I've ever experienced, and I've seen all of the greats. There's a certain X-Factor they bring, and it stems from how incredible their albums are, and how well the band comes together with the crowd to make a unique version of the song that only that show hears. BG fans are there to sing every word with Hansi, or for him if asked, and sometimes they literally won't stop singing even when they "should." Their fandom is rabid and loyal, and very special. Blind Guardian in a small club may be the single most incredible night of metal and "brotherhood" I've ever experienced.

I was there and it was true magic. Won't ever forget it. Still brings me a tear whenever I think of it. True beauty of a wonderful community found in the best culture can offer.

So much power when they play, both the band and the crowd. It really shows tru appreciation when everyone is involved and coming together like that!

the vocalist hansi is exactly how he looks actually, one of the nicest people you might see... epic and beautiful at the same time. and i had the privilage singing my lungs out when they played bards song live in my country. easily one of the best days of my life

Bisscute, all the instrumentalists except Frederick, the drummer are singing, they use the gang vocals either to reinforce certain parts, or to counterpoint Hansi Kürsch, the lead singer. The lead is indeed the red Ibanez, André Olbricht. The rithm is on the black Gibson, he's Marcus Siepen.

I'm only 2 years older than this band 😆. They've been doing it since 84. I love bands that do songs based on books, or characters in books, and these guys do a large amount of that. Still putting out great music too.

Hansi (the vocalist of Blind Guardian) is, together with Floor from Nightwish, Simone from Epica and a few other well known names, one of the legends of Ayreon. Now that i'm talking about it, you should react to Ayreon - The day the world breaks down.

The bards are magical, mesmerizing and powerful. And skill,technique and passion are their definition.

I love blind Guardian and it's one of the few bands that sound 10x better live than on studio album. They made a live dvd video around 2003, imagination through the looking glass. If you find you get a little spare time you should watch it. They are one of the best live bands going still to this day.

If you ever have the chance to experience this band live, do it. Small club or large festival. Singing The Bard Song with leterally everyone in the audience will give you goosebumps for two weeks

When I was at a Blind Guardian concert some years ago, you could hear people singing Valhalla on the way home in some random street a few blocks over like half an hour later. I wonder what the residents of the city though was going on xD

This was recorded at Wacken - Wacken is a small village in Schleswig-Holstein (northern germany). And the Wacken open Air is the largest metal festival all over the world !! Usually between 60-85 THOUSAND people !!

Many years ago at a CD shop that no longer exists, I bought SOMEWHERE FAR BEYOND, recommended by a cool guy working there. After all this time, I would never imagine a new generation rocking out to them. I knew they were great, but power metal is fantasy driven metal and nowhere near what’s going on in the mainstream. But as always, great, time tested music will always live on… Long Live Blind Guardian. 🤘🏽

Not many people know the band they drew major inspiration from in their beginnings - _Fates Warning_ , particularly their album ... *drumroll* ... _Awaken The Guardian_ , last album with their old singer. But FW had a lot of fans in Germany, too - they even made a shrine for their first singer, lol.

Hansi is just looking like a dad xD christmas metal in Geiselwind 2011 was one of the best conserts I have been to. Valhalla was such a magic moment. The crowd sang the chorus for like 5 minutes. I saw Blind Guardian in Barcelona Spain 15 days ago and almost crying listen to this song without Marcus playing the guitar due to covid19 he won't be able to take a flight to Barcelona.

One of the all time great recorded performances! Hope you don't have any problems with it... If you do, the stuff on the Nuclear Blast and Blind Guardian's channel is problem free, so far.

I've not seen a whole yet a few different videos of folks reacting to stuff, mainly heavy metal and the likes. Though I have to say you are quite unique in this aspect I find, while quite a few just say '' they were great, they good, this & that ''. But with you, one can see in your body language and your facial expressions, it seems you really really do enjoy not only doing these videos but also the actual music and scene around it, it is quite refreshing. i hope you keep it up.

Since you are living in germany, maybe you can make it? :-) Officially sold out, of course. But you may find some tickets to be sold online from people who got them early and they can't make it or something. A few bands to look forward to this year: ASP, Powerwolf, Arch Enemy, Avantasia, Einherjer, Epica, Feuerschwanz, Gloryhammer, Haggard, Hämatom, In Extremo, Judas Priest, Lordi, Letzte Instanz, Lacuna Coil, Tarja, Torfrock ...... In no particular order and of course there are more, but i don't want to copy the whole list.

Hansi Kursch (singer) teamed up with Jon Schafer from Iced Earth to form Demons & Wizards. The first CD was awesome. Second one was decent. Worth checking out Demons & Wizards.

I wish people would react to more Blind Guardian beyond this weird out-of-context performance of old fan favorites. They are capable of so much more that doesn't get recognized in these mainstream videos. Yes, this is an excellent display of what a live show is like, but musically, they shine on albums far more than live. Live is an experience of passion for the magic they made on their albums.

A Blind Guardian Show's rating, good or bad, is based on how much singing Hansi Kürsch (Lead singer) has to do himself in The Bard's Song. The less he sings himself, the better the show. this one was top notch. The Bard's Song has become our (the fans) song to sing to Hansi instead of him singing for us. The 'don't be afraid' scream part was kinda for-shadowing (since this is only the last two songs of that show and we as the viewer haven't seen the rest of it) his vocal ability for Valhalla. Wacken Open Air sure has one of the more fun crowds in terms of metal festivals. Greetings from Germany :D
