One of these days, I want to see them do one of these blind taste tests, but instead of the crew giving them 6 different items, they just do the first four and then repeat two of them to see how differently Rhett and Link compare them the second time around. Maybe a nice April Fool's prank...

I mean, sometimes the visuals are pretty distinct. Some ice cream has a more icy appearance than others (less cream content), some brands have vanilla bean specks, etc. Although I can agree that 90% of the reason was because they found a giant spoon at some decorative shop somewhere and decided they needed to use it somehow. Hence, this.

Cook's Illustrated did a review of vanilla ice cream that included the amount of overrun (the industry term for how much air is churned into them). Several brands were really bad about it.

Breyers is not actually ice cream. It's "frozen dairy dessert" because its ingredients don't qualify to be ice cream. That's why it's more "icy".

To be fair- that's the Slow Churned version of Dryers. Slow Churned is a low fat (half the fat) variety of the regular Vanilla flavor. Everyone knows low-fat versions of anything is normally worse tasting.... So it's a bit of a unfair comparison as they should've used the normal regular-fat (non-slow churned) version.

I guess its to keep them from guessing based on observation? The ice cream has different textures. Less grainy, and less white creams is more expensive. Artificial vanilla flavor and whitener = Cheap.

When I was in Texas the best bucket you could get was blue bell. Now I'm here in Cali and I tried to find an alternative. Costco's kirkland vanilla ice cream best everything out of the park, but they got rid of it. They replaced it with another vanilla ice cream bucket, and it's pretty much the same as the Kirkland brand one. So yeah, costco's vanilla ice cream is uncontested

After reading the comments, apparently Blue Bell is a thing I've been missing my whole life. We don't have it in California. Or China for that matter. But I can get Ben and Jerry's and Haagen Dazs which makes those...the only choices I have.

I'm from California also but lived in Oklahoma for a year. Everybody in the south loves Blue Bell, but I assume they all just grow up eating it because it's not that great. Haagen Dazs and Ben and Jerry's are both better.

Ok so after seeing the Dreyer's ice cream I had to look it up because we have ice cream in Illinois with the EXACT same packaging called Edy's. Turns out it's the same thing. The ice cream company was formed by Joseph Edy and William Dreyer. As for why the names are different it's some weird marketing thing where half the country it's Dreyer's and the other half it's Edy's.

WarhammerGeek I know it's weird. I live on the West Coast and all the stores carry Dreyer's Ice Cream. I didn't even know Edy's existed and was the same thing as Dreyer's until like 2 years ago when one of the 99 cents only stores happened to have it in their freezer aisle.

samjxrdan They have ice cream for us too. The only one I am aware of is called Lactaid though and they have milk too. It’s just milk and ice cream without the disgusting lactose. Although you have to go to different stores to find all the ice cream flavors. I’m not entirely sure if it’s just in California or all over.

he is...and so am I, but that doesn't stop me from eating Ice Cream lol. There are some medications you can get that you take before eating (or drinking) dairy products. I never do..I just end up suffering the consequences...lol. It's worth it for Ice cream, just need to make sure you are going to be home shortly after...lol

So much truth there vanilla is so good. When they shut down a few years ago it never made it back to the Fort Knox area of KY and I was so sad but then we moved to Fort Hood and we can have our delicious Blue Bell ice cream. Seriously there mint chip is the best I have ever had and I didn’t like that flavor until I craved it one day (this happens to me a lot I don’t get it either) but tried other brands and they are so bad, there cookie two step is really good too and I don’t really like cookies and cream ice cream. The only flavor that I didn’t like from them is one of there Christmas ones with the green icing in it, I don’t know why but it was just odd but seriously there vanilla is hands down the best!
