There's two ways to read Mr. Green's line at the end: 1. He wasn't actually gay and he really was going home to sleep with his wife. 2. He needed to stay closeted around the arresting FBI agents, so he threw out a mention of an imaginary wife.
During your wrap-up you mentioned that you probably wouldn't watch this again because the who-dunnit had been revealed and that takes the mystery out of the murder-mystery. I'd like to propose that you're looking at it the wrong way 'round. If you look at it as a *comedy* that is framed as a murder-mystery, then that makes this movie much more enjoyable. I've probably seen this a thousand times and I can't tell you who is missing in certain scenes... but I can probably quote most of it.
One of the marketing gimmicks behind this movie was that three different endings were shot and different theatres got versions with different endings. When it came out on home video they combined all three endings.
Madeline Kahn improvised the flames on the side of face part. The singing Telegram girl was played by Jane Weidlin who is a member of the 80's girl rock group The Go go's.
I hate watching movies more than once, but I have seen this movie at least 30 times and never tire of it. You notice something different every time, and the amazing performances never get old!
I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but Mrs. Ho (The Cook) was the same actress who was in all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H* as Nurse Kellye. She passed away Feb 16 2020 of cancer. R.I.P. Kellye Nakahara.

It's 3 months past you posting this, and you've probably been hammered - Well if you haven't already been informed The joke with the dog crap, only Wadsworth stepped in poop, hence the dirty look at the dogs. He scraped his shoe at the door frame- - everybody sniffing and checking their own shoes, and I believe each character checks their shoes just after Wadsworth walks away from the room. Seeing Mrs. Peacock in something else, not sure what else the actress has done, but she was in the movie Private Benjamin (1980) with Goldy Hawn; she played a Drill Sergeant in that movie. I love Clue! in my high school version, I tried out for Miss Scarlet, & everyone voted me to be Yvette because I had the huge cleavage for it LOL but I got to be the understudy for Miss Scarlet, & got a $500 custom-made maid outfit to wear. ☺

In my opinion, You did not appear to really try watching this movie in the spirit it was made, trying to tear apart every instance you can think of instead of enjoying it. A few times you show laughing at the scenes, but for the most part it comes off as pretty stony and apathetic. Projecting much geez, they aren't 'picking' on the gay guy, if anything it is picking on the more nerdy guy, the accident prone guy, or the most straight-laced guy, they seriously didn't care his orientation beyond that single scene where Plum got off the couch next to him.
