sorry for that odd noise in the background at the beginning of the video. with my headphones on, I didn't hear it. it's a tornado alarm test, if you're curious.
@@flowersafterrainfall- not far off. You impressively picked up the subtleties of the track - the bits Ren wanted to be fun, and the bits that were intended to provoke. As others have no doubt mentioned… by “killing” all his avenues of support, Ren harms himself, ergo Masochism through Sadism. I think you’re just one of the few who are artistically in sync with him.
Some more info on this track. Ren wrote this a few years ago when he was really angry with a number of things. The meaning behind this is tearing everything down then building it back up. It's a metaphor and not to be taken literally. you didn't but some did). The first verse are all references and paying homage to the greats in Hip Hop, Method Man, KRS one, Eminem etc. (you were not reaching). You did a great job reacting to it.😊
Yep, he has fun and tells stories - some take everything to literally. For instance - no one is asking Stephen King did he experience all he writes - its creativity. Love you’re enjoying Ren.
I really like that you pick songs that has not been suggested, just because you get curious about them. The requests often follow the same pattern with the same songs being reacted to over and over. Variation is good There are no bad Ren songs - at least none that I have found - so it is pretty safe to do so as well. Great reaction!
hello dear!! thank you for this reaction to our man, ren!!!!!!!! ren does have a wicked sense of humour (!). i think he enjoys thinking about us boppin' to catchy music with uncomfortable lyrics, kinda twisted of him. i love it!!!!!!!!! kathleen bts renegade
Agreed. He has a lot of songs with fast rapping in them, sometimes in songs where you do not expect it. One of my favorite songs of his is Humble (feat Eden Nash), and it has some really clever fast spoken lyrics, even though it is not really a rap song. For a rap song were he really is showing of his skills, listen to Hunger.
Great Reaction. If you consider Masochism is hurting inward towards yourself. He is referencing things from his past hurts and by killing these past hurts he is in many ways rising like the proverbial Phoenix and we all benefit from this inspirational journey of success. Peace and love from Australia ❤
I was kinda worried at first... but Dang... you nailed it! Rens lyric videos are awesome!!! Recommend Ready for you, Ocean, Crutch and Dominos for a wide array to see!
Brilliant reaction glad you liked it 👍👍👍 you're right it has a club feel about it , speaking of which ......down on the beat , and losing it are his 2 dance bangers , you're doing so good your reactions are excellent 👍❤
I recommend you check out The Hunger, Genesis, and Murderer next! (And The Tales of Jenny and Screech (Full) is an absolute must.) You've so many great songs ahead of you.
Im really enjoying your reactions. Im very happy that you had a change of heart about taking this seriously. Keep up the great content and stay true and honest to yourself and you will receive loads or love from your subscribers as well as the respect and support from your fellow reactors
Ren was in a bad place when he wrote this. His health had taken a downturn and he was really fed up with having been ill and in pain, without break, for years. He'd also recently split up with his girlfriend and following a heated disagreement, he'd dumped his management. So on one level this is Ren's primal scream of pain, rage and frustration, at everybody and everything! However he's also explained that he's not talking about actual killing. As he also says in the song, it's about killing all attachments in his life, both good and bad, in a forlorn hope of being able to start over with a clean slate. A rebirth, of sorts, but a very self-destructive route to that rebirth. Hence the song title. Some people only read the surface meanings and do so literally. Thereby believing that Ren has mistakenly confused masochism for sadism. Ren's far too intelligent to do that! Thus some people miss the deeper meaning entirely and seem to forget that Ren employs metaphor, simile, synonym and poetic licence all quite liberally, throughout his work. Ren's a pet and a bloody good poet at that! As long as you keep that in the back of your mind, when listening to music from Ren, his meanings become easier to understand and the poetic beauty of his lyrics will shine through. :)
Yup, you caught the “Hey Stan” reference. Just before that were Yellowman, NWA, and KRS-1 refs. Re: masochist/sadist…yup, you’re right, it *sounds* more like sadism, but “reasons”
Another super reaction Jessie. You always pick up on things like the extra syllables that REN uses. He does that quite a lot. If you want to react to another fun track why not try “Losing It” or “The Hunger”. Keep reacting, your giggle is so cute ❤🇬🇧🏴.
The lyrics of this song have multiple layers (as actually any other lyrics written by Ren). You can go deep and philosophical, and then you will find very general notions about life. The first is the Masochist Sadist controversy. If in our thinking we are all one, then every Sadist is a Masochist. As an example. Or in the chorus "Body bag, zip-zip, that's the catalyst" is about how our mortality determines our worldview. Or "Time bomb, tick-tick, boom, anarchist" is similar (or not?). He says he is "Full of philosophy". The kills he mentions can be deciphered as getting rid of all the bonds, obligations, and convictions is deliberating.
It’s masochist become he wants to sever all ties to cause himself pain as a punishment for bad thoughts. He also feels life is punishing him and so he must be undeserving and needs punishing.
That severed finger makes me think of Ren's line "shocking like a finger in the anus" in Murderer. I don't think you've reacted to that song yet. It's another great one. This one is just fun.
Thank you 🙏❤ Jessie ❤ for your 🐷 Ren - Masochist reaction! #ren #masochist #sickboialbum Yes, there is probably not half a line that is not a reference to either hip hop or pop music or movie history. There are more than 💯of them in it. Besides that, it is pretty dark. And the reference "break your bones to make my furniture" points to his earlier in 2023 published song Murderer. It is, I think, a warning to battle rappers. Reactors don't usually like it, but I do.
thank you for doing this one off the sick boi album i hope you get a chance to checkout Seven Sins track one on same album its fire love your breakdowns of the songs you do on Rens music ❤❤❤
I really didn't like this song the first time I heard it - I didn't understand it. It is growing on me now. Ren was going through a hard time with his health and he had had a falling out with his management (and possibly the wider music industry) at the time. He was feeling like he wanted to destroy everything, including all his support structures, and start again. Whilst that sounds hugely self-destructive/masochistic, ultimately it results in rebirth and therefore something positive comes out of the potentially overwhelmingly negative. Typically Ren forces us to think !
i really appreciate you breaking that down for me. I was curious about the Buddhist references in the track, and now that makes sense to me, because of like, the concept of like, reincarnating and stuff. thank you 😊
@@flowersafterrainfall At first the lyrics seem quite brutal. But knowing the story of Ren and what he has gone through, this darker side is totally understandable and it is a part of him and quite probably a side inside everyone even though mostly hidden. Ren is not hiding his dark side.
@martinschulz-bruckner4155 or it's just about the right time without having heard too much of his super deep masterpieces to see the humor in this song probably intended by Ren :)
@@martinschulz-bruckner4155I see it more as him ‘resetting’ in some sense. Yes lyrically it’s seen as dark, killing everyone and everything, but he states metaphorically later in the song. He’d reached a point where he needed to go back to basics maybe?
Ren will surprise and come at you from the front, back , left or right with any of his songs. Amongst so many of them I noticed you also still miss Heretic on your Ren list, just saying... 😉
it's not - I'm a practicing Buddhist that grew up christian - to find enlightenment and myself- i had to let go all the religious things my mom and the church taught me, in other words. I had to kill the influence of everyone else including my own lingering and narrow minded beliefs. i had to kill the noise.
