He says his main inspiration was the earlier Blink stuff. But most of the inspiration I hear is from After Midnight which was released in 2011, only two years before The Midsummer Station. Dementia kinda feels like a sequel to After Midnight in a way. With the lyrics being about heartbreak and memory loss and the music video for After Midnight taking place in a hospital with the song being about reckless young love. And that's not even to mention the line "driving me crazy" being taken straight from After Midnight.
I used to be a big Owl City fan, and I know it's cliche but their older stuff was better, besides a few tracks like Dementia, Verge, and Bird with a Broken Wing. I definitely would like to see Adam Young's voice in more pop-punk like songs, and I don't hate his new songs, I just believe there should be more love to his earlier works, and I would love to see a rerelease of Of June, to go back and see his first songs. I can't wait to listen to the new album though.
