This song is destined to become one of the greats. It may take a while for the general population to 'get it', but, once they do it will be up there with the great ones, such as The Boxer, The Sounds of Silence, etc. I love this song, especially this particular performance.
I was brought here because of only recently discovering the TV series Chuck, and this super song was used in Season 2 at the end of episode 10 and really caught my ear.
Same. For me it’s partly because it’s like a vignette of that part of my life- leaving home, living kinda wild through college, then settling down with my partner- when I was only 23- and raising “our children up as gently as you please”. At 50, with our sons living far away, the song is a bittersweet reminiscence to days of youth...
I saw these guys a couple years ago in Portland when they opened for the Hold Steady. Amazing show, not many people were there to see them yet, but those who were loved it!
I don't know why i end up here, I'm just browsing videos on youtube,, then i saw this video! and it's my first time to hear this band music as well, i was like... WOW !! Cool guitar playing and the blending of their voice trigger me to listen to their music! then i started opening a new tab and search for Blitzen Trapper music! this band is Awesome! Mabuhay!
noop. I also did :D First time i hear it. Very good. And the last scene from tonights chuck may have been one of the best so far in the series. Cheers!
Very nice - definatly a lack of meaningful muscicans in the mainstream. Makes me happy. I immediatly thought Dylan with the leads intonation and mouth organ. Took me forever to trackdown the band while only knowing the name of the song spelled Fur... only 20 min but worth it. Thanks OP!
Looks like if you put the capo on the 7th fret and play around with G, D, and C...you'll figure it out. I guess that relative to capo it is played in G, but it is actually in the key of D. Try that...
You can always ask on the Blitzen Trapper forum, to be sure. The guys, especially Marty, whose guitar you're discussing, are really good about answering questions.
never heard of them until I randomly caught them on Conan...great song, and what Ive heard off the rest of the album sounds excellent too i think im going for a drive to get this shit right now!!
I agree with you about acoustic artists all being compared to dylan way too fast, but this performance is Dylan all the way, from his singing style to his harp licks. Nevertheless, amazing song and awesome singer!
almasoulguy: he wants to sound like bob dylan? solely because he uses a harmonica? listen to another one of their songs then tell me he wants to sound like bob.
Not really. There is a distinct Dylan sound here. There are a lot of Singer-Songwriter types that don't sound like Dylan. Frank Turner, Chuck Ragan, Chris McCaughan... Going older Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen... It just depends on how much they want to incorporate that sound.
