You can tell how much faith and hope people are putting in Metzen and how beloved he is by the Warcraft community. But value is in the action and the deeds to be done. Time will tell.

Take it from a seasoned Warcraft and Diablo fan who has been around since the 90's. Blizzard knows how to evoke emotion to yield a purchase of your money and then release a game which was a shell of its former self (see: Diablo 4). Metzen is being given a boatload of money to take you for one last ride.

Yeah, I'd say SoD is some kind of beta version of classic+. See what works, what doesn't, then release classic+ servers with things from season of discovery and season of mastery.

@@MistahTeeLecksAhFly I'm sorry to disappoint you but Activition was already at Blizzard in 2006 you just didn't know cause they made it official 2 years later. And it was during Naxx maybe even AQ40 that it was already decided that the game would not expand on the initial Vanilla but would evolved through expansions. And btw most of the original devs left Blizzard before WoW even came out, so there might be even the possibility that Activition helped Blizzard change the orientation of the game already in 2004.

Metzen is part of the main reason that room is filled with passionate fans even after 10+ years of neglect. The loyalty and credibility of Blizzard is so strong that it endures until this day. Please, let the fans be dissapointed no longer. They deserve the best WoW has to offer

I dont get the Metzen hype. I mean he made few good stories but not all his stories where good. I mean cata, wod and pandaland where his ideas. And what i seen from this new trilogy it seems like the same story that we had in BfA. We got magni bronzebeard, old god influence, world soul, Azeroth and the sword again. This time the story will take next 6 years and not just 2 like bfa. And no matter how good the story is the game is still same bullshit it has been for over 10 years.

He is incredibly charismatic, especially on a stage and hearing the voice of Chris, Varian, Thrall, and Nefarian can hype most WoW enjoyers. Nobbel made a joke that Metzen could get on stage and sell him Shadowlands 2.0 and he'd buy it. I think when people think of him they think of what WoW used to be and most importantly, can be. So the hype is there. I agree he isn't a literal saviour, but this overarching story definitely gives some direction back to the lore.@@nakki123

Hmm building the story into multiple expansions is what makes the story of FFXIV so engaging imo. I think it's a good idea especially with Metzen back maybe they might "fix" the lore and make the story fun to engage with again.

i laughed a bit at the midnight releases in the past. I went out in an Ice-storm to pick up TBC at a midnight release. Probably the dumbest and most dangerous thing i did for a video game. Edit: I wonder if they will make class abilities to let Ret Paladins do actual damage in SoD

She said it's not just up to 25. They are dividing the leveling up. So after a couple months the next 25 levels will release with other new raid content, then the last 10 levels for the new end game raiding experience content. New mechanics and such.

Cause thats not how game development works. First, unreal engine 5 can produce stunning visuals in demos without any actual game behind it. There are games developed in it, that struggle hard with optimization and have to cut back on the visuals very heavily. And Second, a MMO is even more intense when it comes to high fidelity graphics, because syncing every movement/animation/action takes a toll and limits a project. If it were so easy, it would already be done. We are still a lot of years away from games that look like Blizz cinematics, A LOT.

Shrug, I feel like they've had that season ready for some time now but didn't want to launch it when Diablo 4 launched, and then they again sat on it to release official hardcore servers instead. Now that hardcore has been going for a bit they're playing that season card now to get more development time for classic+. Another 3-12 months. If so, it just means the actual plus is going to be bigger/better once it eventually comes about.

Hmmm, thinking about it, with Metzen back that War Within trailer hits different. Like Metzen (Thall) coming to Blizzard (Anduin) and saying the past is the past let's move on to a better future, "I trust you." I dunno why it didn't hit me like that the first time I watched the trailer. Maybe it was obvious to everyone else but seeing it this way now...Makes it feel a bit more real. Hoping for the best... Season of Discovery sounds pretty cool. I wonder how it will look. I hope they do some fun things that don't just affect gameplay, like give the Alliance high elves and Horde ogres for example, thats stuff people wanted since Warcraft 3 so why not. They're clearly embracing some of that with their entertaining of tank warlocks and chronomancy mage healers, some old school ideas. I have no idea how this will actually work, will most of the world be locked since the cap is 25 at the beginning? And when we get to 60, will all the raids be new or will we get the regular raids and new raids on top of what? If so, then whatever we get after that will be classic+, but it sounds like alot more than just classic plus if we get new abilities and gear every few months. Surely they don't plan to keep that going infinitely. Maybe they're just adding some abilties and stuff the first few months to make new things viable, things that always should have been viable like moonkins and ret paladins, but also old ideas of meme things like tank warlocks and time mage healers. If they don't go too hard on changing up the classes then this sounds like classic+, only with a more interesting start that doesn't require people to level to 60 again before the new stuff begins. I wouldn't have minded that kind of classic either provided I got to play an alliance high elf paladin through the old world, but this should interesting. I'll for sure resub to try it.

@@Jarl_egbert Doesn't sound like it'll get scrapped since they said they would update and increase the level cap every few months, presumedly up to 60. I don't think anyone really believes cata classic will kill or outperform any other kind of classic. And classic wow is a janky 2004 game, this potentionally being messy doesn't matter. I guess we'll see footage soon to see if this really is something to be hyped about.

Classic wouldn't have ever happened without the private server scene coming together after the closing of nostalrius. All the private server players were tryhards who pvpd for resources and did wsg/av for fun. The winds of change are finally upon us. The game was never intentionally made for players like me. It's time to return to private servers for good wpvp, zone control, and competitive wsg. Too many of the loud voices in the community are ignorant of the circumstances that created classic, and too many of the loud voices in the community misrepresent what truly kept players on vanilla private servers for the years between cata and classic in 2019. EDIT: New zones with new scarce resources on a single layer server for guilds to team up and control would be a change that would satisfy the silent majority of tryhard players. Think devilsaur, but new drops and new map terrain to use to your advantage.

I liked tanking that 1 boss in a TBC raid as a lock (but specialised resistance gear was needed). However, the vibe I got in this announcement is that they want to allow more/all classes to tank/heal/dps. Which I see has the potential in HC versions - assuming the gear you have currently, say dsp, can be used for tanking, otherwise it doesn't make much of a difference if one of your tanks die as they have to relevel and gear up or you have to gear up in order to be able to tank.

We will see how that season of discovery can be implemented into the classic game. And I hope they threw what is BS and only keep and integrate, phase by phase, What keeps that lasting value ! @xtadeus4777 I'm pretty sure it's expanding on the concept of Glyph of Apotheosis (in MoP I think?) that let you replace Metamorphosis (pre-DH) with Apotheosis, a permanent demon form with jacked up defenses and curse auras (it wasn't on the level of real tanks by any means, but it was really fun in casual content). I recall having a blast running around in battlegrounds and knocking people off ledges, was kinda disappointed when they removed it from the game. 😅

there is no everybody makes everything, they are just making it possible to do things that were always technically possible but required wild builds and very special sets of gear. The idea of warlock, and shaman tanks were clearly supposed to be a thing but never got fully expanded upon. Rogues being a dodge tank i think was discovered later but still became a thing for solo or sometimes temporarily evasion tanking mage healing via chronomancy was always a cool idea. there's nothing wrong with experimenting with these ideas. If they work out and ppl like it then maybe it can fulfill a fantasy for players.

Everyone knew it was coming, regardless of how good an idea it is. They started the classic timeline, so they're expected to keep doing it. The code for that expansion is lying around, so it takes very little effort to re-release it, compared to creating something new from scratch. It would make zero sense business-wise not to. Even if it only gets 'one additional' month of subscription from the classic playerbase before they quit enmasse, the amount of money they make compared to the effort put in is still going to be high return on investment.
