You may have heard of cylinder bore scoring as it relates to the Porsche 911, Boxster, or Cayman built for the 1999-2008 model years, but chances are you don't know the full story. In this second of four videos about bore scoring, Charles Navarro of LN Engineering and Mark Malburg of Digital Metrology Solutions give us a primer on the macro geometry of engine blocks and the micro geometry of bore surfaces, and how factors that change these geometries can cause bore scoring and self-propagate the problem over time in the M96/M97 engine. We also share a list of five things to avoid that contribute to bore scoring.
