Watch Roger carve the profile of a full-figure of a farmer from a block of wood, using only gouges and hand tools. This is the way I started many years ago before I had a band saw.
Great tutorial… My first wood carving teacher was using the old way of using gouges to start a carving and I’m glad I learned from him. I bought a band saw when I started to carve a lot but sold it this year while downsizing my stuff. And I now have to relearn how to do it the old way. So the timing is good for your video. It will help me to go back to basics…
Thank you very much for this! I've just started whittling/wood carving (and having a blast!) and do not have a bandsaw, so many guides require one it seems.
Great video…..the wood you use is amazing…..where is it sourced. In the UK we can really only get European Lime which appears much harder ……certainly would not cut like this!
