the ones that havent been blocked fall more like my fabric bandanas do but the softness is cute too

The blocked ones looked stretched, if it wasn’t as stretched it would look a lot better That’s something that happens a lot when blocking, the goal isn’t really to stretch the project it’s to help make the project flat and more flexible

These came out wonderful! 🥰 I’m currently also crocheting a few bandanas, I was wondering what type of yarn you use for yours? Mine are cotton, I was wondering if blocking them even makes sense since I’ve only ever seen blocking done on wool products.
@lunarsunset
@lunarsunset 10 месяцев назад
I read that blocking helps even out your stitches and tension, and by that logic it should help with cotton yarn based products too! I’m going to block some cotton granny squares i made and i could come back and let ya know if it works if you want☺️

I saw the bandana and wanted to make it so I found a tutorial I’m not sure if it’s the same but it looks very similar it’s by jasmineteacrochet (just search jasmine tea crochet butterfly and it should be the first result) I can link the video if you want it? Actually I don’t think RU-vid allows links anymore anyway idk if the tutorial is any good since I haven’t done it yet but I hope I was helpful :)

Personal opinion blocking makes it look messy like it's gonna come undone. But if you don't they're more stiff 🤦‍♀️ I personally don't block my stuff but I do plan on prewashing. I feel like it has more to do with just using the right material instead. Unless somethings going to end up stretched I don't see a reason to make it look stretched and worn

I fell in love with blocking once I learned about it! They all turned out beautifully 😊Does overlapping them like that take longer to dry? And do you use detergent or a soap to block them in?

I was like… I do hope they weren’t left to dry on the bathroom floor. 🤭
@Daziesandconfuzed
@Daziesandconfuzed 3 месяца назад
Blocking means you pin them to make a specific shape and they’d have to be wet so drying on the floor wouldn’t make any sense really

Okay I am a semi new to crochet. I've been doing it for about a year and a half now. I've heard of blocking but never really needed to do it I guess? I've made a bunch of hats and some scarves, a few snoods 🤷‍♀️ I was actually looking at bandana patterns last night so this is probably why it's on my fyp but I just want to know definitively, what blocking is and what it does? I'm assuming that means wetting the fibers and pinning them to the board so when they dry the fibers are flattered and you don't get curl ends? (Like people do with granny squares) Is it a stretch thing? should I do it with beanies as well when I make hats? So many questions LOL😂 tysm in advance
@Daziesandconfuzed
@Daziesandconfuzed 2 месяца назад
Hi! So generally, blocking is for granny squares and clothing items. Sometimes scarves to even edges out. It removes that weird blocky shape from sweaters and whatnot, as well as allows you to keep your shape of your item better (think items with corners or straight long items). Beanies could be tough, but most hats I wouldn’t do it since hats you wanna keep the kind firm structure of them.

Also, Google is good for blocking info! If you type in blocking 101 or blocking for beginners I’m sure you’ll find info. (And Reddit, I legit wouldn’t be as good at crochet today without Reddit, like type your question into google and then add Reddit at the end and you’ll generally get some really good answers from real people.)

What type of yarn is the best to make bandanas out of?
@crochetbandit
@crochetbandit 8 месяцев назад
for me, I prefer thinner yarn (size 2-3) and i would avoid using anything thicker than that because it'll be really stiff. Pretty much any material should work as long as it's not too thick

Wait what's the different between blocking and steaming?
@kitkatherine23
@kitkatherine23 4 месяца назад
theres steam blocking and full wash blocking. steam block u just steam then block the piece till dry, and full wash block is a full wash then block till dry. you should steam block based on the results you want and the fiber you are using, and vice versa

Can you show how you blocked them? Can you do step by step? First, you washed them then you dry them . I assume by placing them in a clothesline. What came after that?

i dont understand why that happened tbh bc blocking doesn't just do that. I think becaude they rung them dry, because you arent really supposed to do that (changes tension, can mess with stretch memomry

Uhm. A beginner here. What's the purpose of blocking btw.
@crochetbandit
@crochetbandit 10 месяцев назад
You see it a lot with granny squares, as they can turn out a little lopsided after you crochet them, so by blocking them, it can help straighten everything out.

That’s cool! Praise the Lord Jesus Christ I just finished making one for me 🥰 and it’s cool to see other ones! And they do look more defined after that process! So thanks for sharing!😊❤ Here’s some good news I’d like to share with you! “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬-‭10‬, ‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬❤❤
