I have a problem with how you block this. I understand you really want help on that NG. But it's called "Zone" for a reason. I like that Guard to step into the B gap look for help and if that End doesn't Cross that Tackles face, then he'll look to that second level backer. If that PSG is looking back to the Nose then that opens up a big lane for their Frontside End and Frontside backer

Coach, I understand, but my thinking is if that play side tackle has a 5 tech on him then all he has to do is base block him. If that DE can slant across his face from a 5 tech then he is just better than my tackle. Now, if he is in a 4i then we will double team him. My thought process is to get as many double teams as possible because I want the play to hit downhill. If I can get a triple team on the nose then that's a better chance of me getting positive yards. And if that front side LB can shoot the B gap and make the play in the backfield then that means the RB is hitting the hole to wide. We want to almost be hitting the zone in the backside A gap. That's where I've found the most yards come from.

In true Zone Scheme, all your o-lineman should step together (right in this case) 1. The PSG sees that there is no B gap threat, so he should take a vertical step with his Rt foot instead of a diagonal step. 2. He should then punch backside, helping the C, BSG combo. But he should only punch with his left hand, because we always need to keep square shoulders in zone. 3. After punching the nose, he should take short, choppy steps climbing to LB on an angle. I understand you wanting to get 4 hands and 2 hats on the NG for personnel reason, but you CANNOT have guys stepping down. The whole point of the zone is to step together and make the defense flow laterally. If you pinch down on the NG like that, the backers should play downhill aggressively and kill your play.

Loved the video Coach! Let's say I wanted to add an H Back (20pp) and lead him up on the LB away from the "Push"... we are getting 5--0-5 so LT can "Base" out on the 5. Is this sound? Thanks Coach!

Nice work coach. Have you heard of a "sift" technique. I understand about the double teams, but we are in the pistol. So coming down hill fast. Allow the 1 tech to make his move, then we combo off him. We have our most success when getting up to the next level rather than double teams and allowing guys to run through gaps. Sift tech would be either blocking the 5, almost fanning him out to then the Tackle would climb to the backside LB.

Coach, First, thanks for watching my video. It means a lot to me that you took time out of your day to watch it. I have heard of the 'sift' and we do that if we have a one backside and he doesn't slant towards the guard. You're right, it does open up the run. How long have you been running pistol? It's something we are going to get into during the Spring. Would love to pick your brain a little bit about it.

Hey Coach, Our biggest problems come against odd front teams. Most odd teams we see are going to play one gap so there is a lot of movement. Our center makes a Bingo call to alert 'blind zone' meaning take your zone steps. If there is an immediate threat in the gap to which you stepped, block it. If not climb to next level. If we read that OLB, we'd get a give read all the time. He's too far from influencing the run. Plus having your RG step left on Zone RT defeats the purpose of zone blocking. We do that and add a FB to run an Iso that looks like zone.

+RL Bouch Coach Bouch, Those are solid adjustments. Did you use your FB as a true FB out as an H back?

Coach McKie Not a true FB. We are lucky in that we have always had two or three true TE type kids so we train them to be guys who can line up at TE, FB, or HB.

Coach, I've watched your Inside Zone, Power, and Pin&Pull. What would be your best play vs. 5-1 cov 1 and how would you block it?

Hey Coach, Thanks for taking time out of your day to watch my videos. It means a lot to me. We had a team try to run a 5-1 cover 1 scheme against us because they wanted to stop our run. Which they did. So what we went to was more quick game passing and our Shallow Crossing routes. You really can't run against that front and coverage because they have you outnumbered. So you need to pass the ball more than run and really hurt them.

We had a team that runs a 5-1 cover 1 scheme against us too. I change the Offense to 20 Personal so we have same Numbers in the Box.

Love that coach. There are different ways to attack the same front. I threw it and you ran it. What type of runs did you use? Were they effective? I would have liked to run the ball, but we didn't have a tight end to bring into the box. But we will next year, so I want some ideas.

Coach McKie Hey Coach, We Play without a Tight End. I Use a Fullback in the Sniffer or Wing Alignment. Our Base Outside Run are the Jet Sweep (incl Jet Read, Jet Power Read, Counter), our Base Inside Run are the Inside Zone in many Variations. Read, RPO. What do you call it if the rbs is in pistol and we aren’t running a specific direction?

Hey coach, Isaac Ava here former Oregon linebacker. That first frame is awesome. But be careful of blocking these plays like this because many odd fronts like to take away all "interior gaps" with the 3 down lineman. These 2 ends will usually 2 gap and fall into the B gap late stretching the play for as long as they can. The inside backers will track the ball from C to C. In that first diagram, both of our ends in our Base Defense would play with great leverage on the tackles and fall back into the B gaps. By rule, once the guards are up the field, we understand that the nose and ends have essentially taken away all interior runs. The backers will then track back outside to the C gaps. The outside backers play well in space so technically they are the QB players

We loved 10 because we knew that we could win in the box with our 3 down and 2 inside backers. Our 3 two gappers eliminate any good down block angles by alignment and technique and we get to control the front from moving to fast side ways. But with a tight end in there, he has a great angle to block C gap and work up to the backers. Try reading the outside backer to the right end side and watch how big the space is for the back to wind back. It should roll right off of the tight ends ass

In the two by two why not just make a riverside or flip call and run it to the other side. Wrap inside by the now play side tackle to the LB, play side G and C have NT to back side LB and backside T and G are big on big to the End and walked down LB. Read the play side E. That way you maintain your blocking angles? Btw, I did install your Y flat RPO to draw the LB to his side out instead of having Y block him on trap and inside zone. Unfortunately we got behind on the scoreboard and we ended up having to run outside zone, pin and pull so we could RPO go routes and score. In week three of the playoffs, we again got behind by two score and playing a veer team we had to throw the ball and try to score quickly and hope our D could stop them in four downs. We couldn't. So, now it's off season work already.

Coach Love your videos! Question why do you only run the snag route when they roll to the front side? when they roll to the back side and the OLB becomes read why not run snag with slot and bubble with motion guy to stress that rolled safety?

Coach Albright, We don't see much 4-4 or 5-3. The teams we face won't pack the box because they know we will throw the ball when they give us the numbers.
