"Before the match starts a lot of players and fans are praying, I never understood that. If there was a God and if he would treat everybody as equal , every match would be ending up in a draw game" -Johan Cruijff - 1947 - 2016
This man was special. Not only for the Dutch. He is highly respected in Spain as well. In my country of Portugal he is known as one of the best players of all time.
Cruijff literally changed how the game of football is played forever. From amsterdam(ajax), being sung to one final time in the ajax-stadium by the ajaxcrowd....brr still hits me like a truck, damn
As a Dutch viewer, thank you for reacting to this tribute. Johan Cruijff is the greatest footballer in our country's history, and all in all one of the greatest of all time in the world as well. His philosophy of 'Total Football' changed how the game was played forever, and he influenced many managers to this day, one well known example being the massively succesful Pep Guardiola. Seeing this tribute again put a tear in my eye.
I was in the stadium. Watching this still give me goosebumps. Johan was not only the best player, but also the best coach. No one had a bigger influence on the game than Johan.
I'm from Belgium, we are neighbors with the Netherlands and somewhat rivals when it comes to football. But I can honestly say Cruyff was genius. He understood the game on a different level. He was basically the man behind the succes Barcelona had for years and years. This tribute gets me every time.. ♥️
His name was huge as a football player, and even bigger as a trainer. This was AJAX Amsterdam. FC Barcelona did the same for our Johan Cruijf, a complete stadium full of people in Barcelona because he did huge things for the club Barcelona. Without the many, many Dutch players and trainers who did huge things in Barcelona the football club would not be one of the biggest clubs in the world. We Dutch have reinvented football/soccer and everyone in the world agrees on that. Because the word "total football", is now used all over the world thanks to RINUS MICHELS R.I.P. who passed it on to Johan Cruijf.
Johan had indeed some legendary sayings, ridicully simple but true as hell. On the field, when you make a mistake, you have to, before making that mistake, not make this mistake at all. Or... When you dont have the ball you cannot score a goal 😁 Last one: when we have the ball, they cannot score. All true and obvious but out of his mouth words of wisdom. And funny 😂
'elk voordeel heb zijn nadeel' (each positive has a negative, its a little bit hard to translate, a voordeel is a break you get for instance: 'this house has the voordeel of an indoor parking lot', a nadeel is something negative that comes with something, for instance: 'I like the Netherlands, but a nadeel is that its always raining') His saying: 'each voordeel has a nadeel', points out that for example if the other team has 10 players, and you have 11, thats considered a voordeel. But: it also dictates how to play: with one man free, he has the ball, and could walk with that ball all the way to the goal. But the other team knows this. There is only one obvious tactic. So they can think of something to counter that. You can no longer surprise them with a tactic. The voordeel (11 players vs 10), has a nadeel (they will know your tactic). This is so wise on many levels: every voordeel in life, has a nadeel. Imagine getting rich. A huge voordeel. But then people will come to you to ask for money. You are losing the money fast, dragging you down all the way to poverty. 'every voordeel has a nadeel'. It always fits. I therefor think 'elk voordeel heb zijn nadeel' should be his most famous expression. Another famous expression would be: 'If I wanted you to understand, I would have explained it more detailed' (talking about tactics to the press) Cruyff is a legend.
I always remember how he explained that helping isnt always a request for the other to come near. In the field helping is sometimes moving away so the player with the ball has an option to play the ball.
@@baskoning9896 absoluut waar, ook vanwege de implicatie dat elk nadeel een voordeel heeft. Overigens wezen Chinezen daar duizenden jaren eerder al op.
True, and if you keep doing the same stuff as your opponent is doing you'll never be the better of him. Which is why he hired an opera singer to improve the breathing technique of the players. Which is clearly thinking out of the box called football to gain that performance advantage over your opponent.
I was there, I'm a season ticket holder. And this is the first time I witnessed something like that. still gives me goosebumps, till this day. Thanks for reaction brother mad love.
Not only was he so much more football than just the best player of the 70's, he was also much bigger than football. And not just for the Netherlands. - He emancipated the professional football player, from a 'take your pay and shut up' employee to them controlling their own commercial interests. He was a bit of a rebel. - He was the figurehead of the new free and self condfident free spirited Netherlands with their long hair but actually very disciplined 'Total Football', the Clockwork Orange that has never stopped impressing the world. - He was a style icon like David Beckham, while he protected the privacy of his gorgeous wife. - He introduced the car lease to the Netherlands in his contract with Citroen, about getting a Citroen-Maserati (talking about style). - He did not only give FC Barcelona it's footballing pride back by humiliating Real Madrid, there was a fascist dictatorship back then in Spain and all Catalonian identity was oppressed. Speaking Catalan was outlawed, just like Catalan names. While playing for Barcelona he registered his new born son in Amsterdam. He called him 'Jordi', the illegal Catalan version of 'Jorge' and Sant Jordi is the patron saint of Catalonia. You can imagine how that news went down in Catalonia and the regime in Madrid. - He has enriched the Dutch language with several sayings and expressions that will last, more than any writer. He had a lot of 'Yogi Berra's' too. - He is said to have enriched the Spanish language too, and flabbergasted the English when he was a pundit there. He was the kind of man that could express himself excellently in a language he didn't master. A great communicator in his own way. His Dutch was also not the kind that would make a teacher happy, but was understood by everyone. - He has changed football forever. Unlike some I won't take anything away from Michels in inventing Total Football at Ajax and the Clockwork Orange, but he took it into the 90's and beyond. Without him no Tikki-Taka, no Barcelona greatness, no Guardiola and a different Messi. - In the autumn of his football career he went to Ajax rival Feyenoord out of rancour (he was no saint, he was a difficult character) and made them champions. He broke the rivalry barrier, this rivalry has grown far too intense since but his death united all of football and all of the Netherlands. - He has always been the strongest force for youth academies in football, with both Ajax and Barcelona as exponents. - He has always been the strongest force for 'street football' as the birth place of skill. There are now Cruijff courts all over the Netherlands and even outside. Just kids playing football in their neighbourhood, after school and after dinner again. - He was by far the best pundit, leaving you wondering how the manager of either playing teams could be this stupid. - His most iconic image is not him caressing the ball with his right or left foot like he could like no other, it's him directing play, there was always something on top of just being the greatest player. I didn't always agree with him, I don't believe he was the greatest manager/coach in the world, I didn't like his interference with the board of Ajax, he played the pollitics of football dirty sometimes and he was often too big to work with in a normal way. But with all the good and the little bad he was who he was and such a larger than life national icon other counties simply don't have. My mother didn't give a shit about football but she surely cared about Cruijff. Sometimes I think you have to ignore how great he was a player and manager to truly understand his greatness as a person and icon. .
@@HighlyCombustibleReacts My pleasure. Here's a short clip about his impact in Barcelona. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pYZmXHCrYRs.html It's from the documentary "En un Momento Dado" which is an enrichment of the Spanish Language by him, a wrong translation of the Dutch for 'at a given moment' that became famous in Spain. That clip is just about the start, he had yet to call his son Jordi.
In Barcelona they called him “el salvadore” the liberater. Because catalans where always discriminated on. And when he came he changed the world of footbal. And after the dictatorship, and not being allowed to speak their own laguage. And forced labor murders. He came to barcalona after the dictator was gone. Had he liberated the club and the people and won from real madrid and became champion. For the catalan people that felt like we are finally free. And just as important as the other people in spain.
There was a time that 4 of the 5 people on EARTH knew who Johan Cruijff was. The stadium you see is named after him, the Johan Cruijff Arena. And yes, his sayings and one liners not only enriched the Dutch language, but also the Spanish language! The people you see standing on the pitch are all ex-Ajax Amsterdam players some of them who played with Johan.
For an American it is difficult to comprehend or better to feel, but he is for the dutch soccer/football comparable with Babe Ruth in baseball and like Michael Jordan in basketball. He is from the likes of Maradonna, Pele and Messi.
And even then something else, because I feel like the emotion involved in football (but probably sport in general) anywhere outside of USA is much higher.
I was not in the stadion.I have walked with my husband, son and daughter in the march for Johan Cruijff across Amsterdam. Our whole familie is a big fan of Johan Cruijff and Ajax .My daughter was intervieuwed by the show called "jeugd journal" (youth journal the kids version of the news) She called Johan:" the best soccer player of the world"❤ He died to young of long cancer. You must do some researche about him and about what soccer means for our land. Soccer is for the Netherlands what American football for the USA is.
Forever our inspiration. Forever Johan Cruijff. ♥️ What a Emotional Farewell 😪😪from this fantastic Football ⚽ player ever. Forever no. 1️⃣4️⃣ Thank You 🌻🌻🌻🌻❤️
I was here! One of the most special games I’ve ever been. Together with the first game after Appie collapsed. Can’t compare the atmosphere in the stadium during those 2 games with any other ❌❌❌
"First point, there is only one ball so you've got to have that one, but the essence is: what are you then going to do with that ball?" - Johan Cruijff - 1947 - 2016
I think he is the biggest football idol. He was not only one of the all time best players. But he changed football to how we know it now a day. Some say messi and ronaldo are beter what might be true in goals/assist. But what he has done for football has not be done yet.
I emigrated in 2005, so I was not there with this amazing tribute, but I was on the pitch a few times in the Arena with big events, like in 2000 when Ajax celebrated their 100 year anniversary, and Johan actually played that day, together with many legendary players from the team that won everything in the early 1970s.
I was there on the first ring north stand, once an Ajax supporter always an Ajax supporter, but this was in sweet loving memory of Ajax and The Netherlands best football player ever :). The red & white shirt on the pitch is Ajax home jersey, the one in orange of our national team and of course blue/purple one is FC Barcelona's jersey. Johan Cruijff & AFCA CBS :)
"I don't believe, because I'm not a believer, but I do think that there is something else and therefore I believe in the thing that I think is there" - Johan Cruijff - 1947 - 2016
Also created a new spanish lyric , En un momento dado They made a movie of it:) Funfact t was my coach at the Ajax youth academy, i played togheter wit hhis son
The capacity of the Johan Cruijf Arena is 55.500, and it looks like it was sold out so that's how many people were there. He was the best Dutch footballplayer ever. Every Dutch footballlover knows him. Most foreign footballlovers know him as well. He became an icon at Ajax and moved to Barcelona later on. The tribute was because he passed away because of cancer. Another thing why people remember him was because of his one liners as you said. The most iconic one liner he said was: "elk nadeel, heeft zijn voordeel". With the accent of Amsterdam of course. It means: "every disadvantage, has its advantage". He didn't came up with it, but it's the most iconic thing he said. Something he came up with was: "Je moet schieten, anders scoor je niet". Which means: "You have to shoot, otherwise you can't score". If you wanna know more, there's loads of info on google about him, and Im sure there are video's about him as well. I recommend to look him up
Fun fact: all the people standing next to the field are former Ajax players, among them are some real legends. That’s why they keep filming them as well.
"Play the game as it should be played. Football is made for the spectators. They most enjoy seeing the attack, so you have to attack." - Johan Cruijff - 1947 - 2016
Ik mis wel het Feyenoord shirt . Klaarblijkelijk kon Ajax dat niet opbrengen. ?
Dude I love your digital journey through our country! To know who Johan Cruijff was, check out this video please: "Johan Cruijff Is Art" Its exactly 14 minutes long, because he is the legendary nr 14. Greetings from The Netherlands!
Johan Cruijff was the best Dutch player ever. Another recommendation, check out Liverpools rendition of Youll Never Walk Alone. It’s football’s most famous anthem. Great videos lad!
Bloed, zweet en tranen = Blood, sweat and tears; The song is about the moment you now it's over and you're looking back on you're life; I did ok but also not ok; Goodbye my friends the end is near (de koek is op).........and please google the name Johan Cruyff.....Johan is Amsterdam and also Andre Hazes. When my wife was pregnant also his wife was, we met in a store bying our a buggy. (andre rest in peace)....
I was there that day man, the stadium now holds approximately 55,500 - 56,000 people. Johan Cruijff was the biggest Ajax (football club from Amsterdam) icon there has ever been, and probably the most well known Dutch person world wide. I personally believe there isn't a tribute big enough to honour his accomplishments/contributions for Dutch football and football in general. But it was special to be there that day. Keep up the reactions man, I really enjoy them!
