Even as a straight woman I have to agree: she's freaking scrumptious. But please let's not lose sight of how amazing her voice is - she's so so so talented, her beauty is just the icing on the cake
Blondie has a multitude of styles-pop, disco, rock, punk, and yes, even rap. All are fantastic! Check out more from them. And Debbie Harry is smokin hot in all of them. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
New Wave was HOT in 1978-1980! Missing Persons "Words", Bow Wow Wow "I Want Candy", The Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like" and "Square Pegs", Blondie "Rapture" and " Dreaming".
She did NOT just sing Rapture She was the FIRST RAPPER ever to have a number 1 rap hit in HISTORY. NOT Sugarhill Gang. She is also the first one to put a rap video on MTV when MTV was a rock channel. Rapture. She also sang at COACHELLA 2023 and still tours and is beautiful at 79. No joke. They were a punk rock band first. Blondie still tours quite often. She use to live in a walk up tenament in the East Village NYC while doing shows and touring at the time this video was made. The East Village was where all the punk rockers lived up until the mid to late 90s. I cant remember anymore but think she lived on 7th st by Ave B? Regardless, I use to see her often. Blondie was voted the most beautiful woman in the world in the 70's by Vogue(?) or whichever magazine. Blondie escaped a serial killer once giving her a ride by jumping out of his car at a red light. She also is one of the first girls to set the hairstyle trend that you see everywhere today (mixed colors half blonde half black hairstyle and the shag cut) and yes that is Studio 54. Best club EVER!!! She also modeled and has a lot of shockingly gorgeous photos if you type Blondie Images and even nude. She was and still is confident and is extremely smart with a high I.Q.. She is streetwise (you had to be living in the Village back then) and daring. Blondie is the Queen. Period. Her style her swag her music her hair her clothing her makeup so many try to mimic as I type this today and it's her image that is used as the palet. Literally. You will see Blondie photos in salons, boutiques and on walls everywhere here in NY and across the globe. Blondie is a trendsetter. Shes a beast.
This band was fire. She was a Star, capital "S", and the band was underrated. Their songs were well-written, top-notch producing, and impeccably executed. I still have a crush on her, from about 1982. She was a force of nature, and the band rocked, or was smooth, whatever they needed, they were REALLY good. And this is definitely disco. This band went a lot of places with their music. Disco, rap, pop, rock ,new-wave, punk..... Amazing, but she was out of this world. What a talent. After starring with her in the movie, "Videodrome", James Woods said that she would have been an Superstar actress, if that was what she wanted to do. What a voice! Top 5 Iconic women rock or punk voices all time. I could give my 5 if asked. Okay, now that you've asked, 1) Amy Lee, 2) Ann Wilson, 3) Floor Jansen, 4)Stevie Nicks, 5) Debbie Harry
The first Rap song ever to chart was her song “Rapture” which was the second single off the project and became a huge commercial success. The single spent two weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 and was the first number one hit in music history to feature rap vocals
Debbie Harry looks like she could be one of my Aunts back in the 70s. Uncanny resemblance. My mom used to listen to this while cleaning the house when I was a kid.
Love Blondie the first time I heard her voice. The beat and style is timeless. You could put this song out today and it would still sound new. I loved Call Me, Heart of Glass, The Tide is high, Rapture, One way or another... I feel the same as you do I thought she was absolutely smokin'.
Blondie group lead singer - Debbie Harry... It is hard to believe she is like ... 78 yrs old currently and still doing concerts. She sure was HOT in her day for sure and this video is only looking dated by the guys in the group and NOT the look of Debbie ... whose look here is flawless and timeless for a video and song that came out like 44 yrs ago.
Blondie blended together a bunch of different genres in a novel way and were hugely influential To me their best song is one that's not super well known it's called dreaming And Debbie Harry...
You guys are cool cats and make an entertaining team! Tonight is the first time I've seen your videos and you had me laughing and enjoying your grooves.
This song was actually a last-minute thought to finish the album. It was based on a song they had been playing around with for years, but never felt they could get quite right. Much of the musical direction was provided by Mike Chapman, the producer. However, the vocal style was Debbie's idea. She surprised the whole band when she started singing in a higher register, and the rest is history.
"New wave" era was great. I like most of the bands that came from CB-GB. The NYC dive bar in the 70's. Back then they were all called punk. Blondie, Ramones, Talking Heads, Television, Richard Hell, Dead Boys... I recommend Ramones "Psychotherapy" music video
Not only was she tight with fab five Freddy she was also tight with Grand Master Flash .in the song Rapture after she shouts out Freddy she shouts out Flash.”Flash is fast,Flash is cool “
They started out early in the NY Punk scene, turned disco because it was commercially viable, and punk fans didn't pay (they'd rip off bands at Live performances, and not buy any products). They were Pop, New Wave, Rap, etc., but kept their Punk edge. Debra Harry had a helluva voice --> SHAYLA, MARIA, FLIGHT 45 (bermuda triangle blues), DREAMING, etc. and they had a great performance of RING OF FIRE in Meat Loaf's 1980 film "Roadie". You should like Tears For Fears with such music videos as EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD, HEAD OVER HEELS and MAD WORLD.
This really is not the typical blondie sound. they went with the disco phase pretty hard in the later 70's. hell, even the stones put out a disco album (look it up). if you listen to some of the songs on "parallel lines", (like sunday girl, or fade away and radiate) you would get a better understanding of what they are musically, and style wise. this wasn't their new wave, or punk phase. this band transitioned towards the money. parallel lines is one of the finest albums as a whole of its time.
Oh yes, pls react to their "Rapture". Hmm you might also want to check out "Middle Of The Road" by The Pretenders , "Words" by Missing Persons, "No More Words" and "Metro" by Berlin, "Head Over Heels" and "Turn To You" by The Go-Gos.
the original working title of this was "the disco song" . the band hated it and only did it as kind of a mockery of disco tunes of the day. Then it went gold.
Blondie's music has a bit of a dreamlike quality to it. And Blondie was Punk, not disco. They experimented with many different genres and sounds: that's why it's hard to pin them down.
Blondie introduced the world to rap. Before the Furious five, and Curtis Blow got their sound out of Brooklyn and the Bronx, Blondie took this straight to CBGB;s in Manhattan;s lower East side and into homes of America before there was MTV.
Now that you've seen/heard Blondie's original, you MUST see Postmodern Jukebox's cover with Addie Hamilton. I LOVE BLONDIE'S VERSION but, Addie adds a sensual twist that I think that you'll like . . .
This was a slower reggae - style song originally to try and get a slice of the action at the time, but their producer said NO WAY and disco-fied it! The rest is history!
Call it what you want but it's still disco to me. Talented and cool but still disco😂 She's sexy as hell and that's why we watched but us rockers downplayed disco every chance we got!
