Guadalupe Adame Rojas I remember lots of 70s concerts Stones, Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, Doobie Brothers. Had a Sister was obsessed with Long Hair Rock Stars. I did feel for her born with that IRISH Red Hair. Also felt for her only girl in a big IRISH Family of 10 kids. IRISH Familys are known for having lots of kids. Its True REDHEADS get made fun off. It also sucks most people think all IRISH are Drunks
@@jimogrady1131 Those are the same people who think Scots are cheap. We're not cheap. We're thrifty. That's why we don't wear anything under our kilt. Why waste money on something nobody is going to see, anyway? Merry Christmas to all! Slaint'e!
I had the chance to see them at Sheffield City Hall approx. 2000, just after Maria came out. Can remember dancing to their songs at discos ... great fun!
Most bands flame out after their glory years, but Blondie came back 19 years later and released this masterpiece. That's the mark of a truly great band. And at 53, Debbie still looked stunning. She's truly one of a kind.
I think it has to do with the singer. Debbie had a sad and happy life, especially by the time she sang this. You can hear the happy and sadness in her voice and see it in her in interviews later in life. In the 70s she sounded more carefree. I admire her. She kept and keeps going regardless of life's ups and downs PS) One of my most cherished whitetail deer friends is named Denver. 💕🦌
Debbie Harry really is one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. She really knows how to use her voice to stunning effect and this song is a perfect illustration of that; the sly stance and creamy tonality she stakes out in the verses and then her soaring, emphatic command in the verses--it's a masterful display of knowing exactly when and what to do. She positively makes you believe Maria is the most glorious girl you've ever encountered. What a persuasive and dynamic performance. It's a horrid shame Top 40 didn't get on board with this track. It was totally deserving of mainstream success.
My mother is called Maria. She is almost 70, I sing and play this to her, she goes all bashful and beams with smiles 💗💗 I think she was a bit of a rebel as a teen 🥰
Just when you'd almost forgotten Blondie they came back with this. Never knew a "pop song" could give me the chills like this does. When Deborah soars into the chorus the hairs on my neck stand up.
@Ik Har. There's NOTHING wasted here. Just that she's not the young bombshell of the eighties anymore. Take a look at yourself in the mirror if and when you are past 40.
Blondie made this in probably one of the strongest decades of music - the 90's and in the UK this came straight in at Number 1. Just shows how amazing Blondie is!!
Nicki Agare I remember when this song came out, it was playing on top radio stations right along with artists 20 years younger than her. Her band is superb as well
love Blondie!! (she was the last concert I took my son to before passed away at age 19 back in 1999. (God, I miss that boy!!) so it's w/mixed feelings I listen to this... profound joy & sorrow).
I feel your loss I lost my son at an early age I can't imagine knowing them for 19 year then loosing them my hat is off to you and stay strong as long as they are in your hearts they are never far away
When I first heard this song, I didn't realize it was released so much later in her career. Cool track that goes unnoticed and can only be found in compilation albums on streaming services i.e. Spotify.
I enjoy this much more than the official video. Most of the very talented boys are there and Debbie is in full light amazing. What a voice and presence.
David Smith She is called Deborah Harry (formerly Debbie) it is the GROUP that is called BLONDIE and there's plenty can compete, not with Debborah though!!!
Dear Ms. Harry, I've never seen this video before. I'm so grateful that it does it for me. I love your performance in this video, your voice, and expressions. Much love to you and I hope you're greater than well.
I am very impressed by the youthful energy these near senior citizens had. The first time I heard "Maria", I thought it was made in the 1980s. I was very surprised to learn it was made in the late 1990s.
the fact that i’m seeing blondie later this year, and the fact that debbie will be 76 by then, makes me realise how lucky we are to still be able to witness such a beautiful, groundbreaking and AMAZING super punk icon band xxxxx
Tienes Toda La Razon Menos En Lo Viejita Yo Tambien La Amo😍😍😍😍 Esta Mujer Esta Divina Aun Con Sus Años Su Voz Es Impresionante Mejor Que Madona En Mi Humilde Opinion
I had the extreme privilege of serving her coffee at Starbucks almost ten years ago. She signed a pastry bag for me, and I have it framed. She is not only AWESOME, she's also really sweet and gracious. And let me fangirl the fuck out without making fun of me.
She is so beautiful and so talented!!! She doesn’t put on the biggest show- but she is still so entertaining to watch and you can tell she loves what she does 🥰🥰🥰
The original. Blondie has got to be one of the most underrated pop bands ever. LOVE Blondie. And her big hit "Marie" is my fav of all time. God Bless you Debbie H.
I'm a Blondie fan but first time hearing this one. I knew it was a #1 in 1999 so gave it a listen and it's fab just as good as most of the early stuff. Deb looks fab too!
This song came out in the mid 90s long after her popularity had faded away but so somehow she managed to return with a big hit which is now also considered a 90s classic
I understand the good nature of this comment, but I cannot agree with the expressions used : "popularity had Faded" & "Somehow she managed". I think you are undmining this perfect performer of out time.
What a beautiful singer and person and look. I have come across this ladies history and it is one of a good character, all round good person. She has always had the looks, and voice.
if you want the best example of this "the park, the rank, and other things" famous cowsill songs yeah, she was never debbie harry, but to watch her in her 60s is still such an absolute delight
@@alanchamberlain9902 doubt it?! Loool u shouldn't then. Just because she is known worldwide doesn't mean she is more beautiful than a regular person. Also Portuguese girls aren't American fake models
I was designing menswear in NYC and I’d stop everything when this song came on - pulled out the high school dance team moves… love Blondie since forever ❤
I saw them live not that long ago. I was absolutely amazed at how they still sounded exactly like they did all those years ago. Her voice was still Spot on! So impressive.
«Maria» es una canción de la banda Blondie de su álbum de 1999 No Exit. La canción fue escrita por Jimmy Destri, autor de otros éxitos del grupo como "Atomic", producido por Giorgio Moroder. La obra representa el regreso de la banda después de casi veinte años de ausencia. El sencillo alcanzó el número uno en el Reino Unido, y fue también un gran éxito en toda Europa. Sin embargo, en EE.UU., la canción solo alcanzó una discretísima posición # 82 en el Billboard Hot 100.
Skillful utilization of vocal range, masterful command of lyrical inflection, stunning elegant & tasteful stage presence that harkens back to a long bygone era....why can't today's girl singers be more like Blondie ?
MrJuan310194 Next 2 Joanne Catherall and Susan Sulley from the Human League that is. I really love the Human League and Joanne Catherall epy. And Blondie 2 from Paul Eyles from Portsmouth
Literally, she still singing TODAY. Toooooo many years since the band was created. But everything that starts comed with an end Thanks Blondie! You guys did such an amazing songs
