Good game! Cool to see the newly buffed DA units in action. The whole fights first conversation around 2:35:05 was confusing though. I was under the impression the ‘fights first step’ is a seperate step so always resolves first, then defender gets to activate the first ‘fights normal’ unit after all the fights first units have finished attacking.. saying ‘defenders get fight first’ doesn’t make much sense.
Fights first step is a different step! It follows the same thing of defender activates first if both players have fights first and then alternate, once all the fights first units are resolved you go to the "fights normal" units where again defender fights first and then alternate, glad its not the days of 9th where there was also fight normal but who went first was different thanks for watching!
Thanks again for having me on! Really good learnings around pariah and my army list. DA are feeling pretty good & can’t wait to try more ICC, DWK, and the DA detachments!
The Lion has the ability Fights First, the squad tied up in combat does not have Fights First, therefore doesn't activate during the Fights First step. If the squad had the Fights First ability as well, they would only activate before the Lion in the Dark Angels turn. It does matter, you do not gain Fights First just being a defender without the ability.
There are two sub-phases in the Fight Phase. Phase One is the Fights First phase where all units with the "Fights First" ability are eligible to fight. You gain this ability via datasheet (like the Lion has), or by charging, performing a heroic intervention, or being a target of the Counter Offensive stratagem. The fight order for this sub-phase works just like normal, with the defending player getting to activate and fight with one of their units first, and then alternating back and forth until all "Fights First" units are finished fighting. Phase Two is the Remaining Combatants phase where everyone else gets to fight. Again, the defender gets to pick the first unit to fight, and then the players alternate. It's not too complicated once you realize that there are basically two fight phases (and both phases follow the same alternating activations starting with the defending player).
Hello, The hellblaster ability counts as a "Shoot on Death" rule in the commentary, and that makes it an out-of-phase rule. So that means they can shoot pistols after dying in melee.
So from reading the rules commentary & out of phase rules, isn’t Anthony connect? Wasn’t a big deal for a plasma pistol and bolt pistols v jump marines.
