Loved and idolized him so much that he truly wanted to be like Paco,"el gallo negro, the baddest chicano en el barrio"so much to the point that Miklo turned into the person he turned into at the end
The storytelling in this movie is so incredible! When Paco says “So what are you saying? It’s my fault the way everything turned out?!” And Cruz just responds with a look. No words, just stares at him and the whole audience has the same revelation at the same time Paco does. All the events of the film from the past 3 hours just come together back in one scene and all with a stare. This is brilliant filmmaking and should be studied
The whole main cast was good, but Jesse Borregos, Cruz, just shined in this movie. All of his scenes are so emotionally powerful. From his mannerisms to his words, whether yelling or stone silent, he really captures the essence of an artistic personality that had a tortured soul through his own reckless behavior with drugs. But in the end he comes full circle to realize the power of forgiveness and family and that even through their crazy lives the bond of family is what keeps them going. Borregos just knocked it out of the park in this movie. Wow!
@@matador6604 Of course everyone got fucked up because of Paco, but they forgave him because they're family. Something he didn't understand till the end
Dawm i always come back to this part of the movie now that i made it to 27 years old and this is the best comment for this part of the movie 😢😢😢 i love you for that mad respects
@@SuperSlimshady1 really? He was basically already doing drugs while young and then kept it going and then lost family for like 7+ years!!! So he was basically saying he kept feeding his guilt and his loses with the drugs
I AM FROM TURKEY AND WENT TO EAST LOS BOYLE HEIGHTS JUST TO PAY MY RESPECT TO THESE 3 VATOS FOR SPREADING KARNALISMO ALL AROUND THE WORLD LIKE BILLY GRAHAM
Bro that’s crazy! I went to Germany and met some guys I hung with a couple days. They were from Turkey. I said you guys are just like us Mexicans at home in California. Good people! 👍
This scene means a lot to me. Brotherhood is everything, this scene is inspiration cruzito talks facts. No matter how much hate between paco and miklo there's a bond between them. Damn great scene 👏🏽
@@korrupt93 Simon brother these days were all just privileged white washed brats feeding from the hand of the government we really forgot about our culture
I don't think people understand how deep and how perfectly written this part was the whole movie is a masterpiece and one of the most underappreciated pieces of film arts ever! I understand why because it's a very small minority of people that can relate to it but when it comes to writing, art, poetry, raw acting etc. it is one of the greatest!
"Hey i know bro i fed mine through a needle for ten years , and that guero up there hating his own fucking white skin ? Shit he's got it worse then both of us"
Miklo only wanted to be like Paco but ended up becoming more involved with the gang life then he imagined to the point where he found himself in a position more deadly then average Street gangs
Really?????? I'm white as you and I've never struggle in my honduran family, you're struggling culturally not physically, you're more American than hispanic, that's what it is.
This always hits me hard. Growing up like Miklo, half white and half Mexican, I always felt trapped. But the one thing I finally learned after all these years, it's that Familia means everything.
After all these years this scene still hits hard. I'm the oldest sibling/cousin in the family. I was burdened with being an example. I rebelled against that responsibility. I wasn't a very good one. At first. I've carried the guilt of that failing around far too long. It was MY little brother who taught me to let it go.
Miklo forgave him because he realized it was destiny, destined to lead La Onda. He was the one who helped La Onda survive in prison so it was all meant for him to return. Cruz made Paco realize that his actions made things turn out the way they did. Think about it, Miklo stopped Paco from murdering Spider. If he didn't stop Paco then it would have been a different turn out. It was all destiny. That is one of the messages this movie sends out.
People don't understand the price you pay for somebody else and when you pay that price they want to look down on you butt in the butt in the end it's to late family is everything even if your the black sheep there free you got time sacrifice ain't no big thing just to you
Miklo and paco had to know spider was a real one and wasn’t gonna take that lying down. He had to go. Miklo having a moment of morality set the whole thing in motion. Like mike from breaking bad said. Sometimes no half measures
That mural reminds me so much of my two brothers and I. We weren’t gangsters but full of love and familia. The strongest of us my older brother one year apart just passed from hypertension. A firefighter and then a nurse who loved his family and would help anyone. We use to love watching this movie. I miss you brother. Shits hard.
And it's crazy how often this happens. Just a couple of homies trying to be down for each other not knowing what the real world is about. All they know is to fight. To survive. Almost brings me to tears seeing it. They don't make films like this anymore.
One of the greatest movies I've ever seen with the greatest ending. This last scene pretty much sums up the entire movie, so much emotion. A movie made way beyond its time. "Eh life's a risk carnal." VATOS LOCOS FORVER HOLMES!"
That’s the heart of the movie, destiny. As hard as you may try to change the course of your life, you can’t change what is destined for you. The decisions every character made in the past was bound to happen at some point in their lives which led to this scene. Remember, whatever is meant to happen, will happen.
This movie was released 30 years ago and still holds up. Never gets old. Great story, great lines, it doesn't feel like its 3 hours long. There is a fabled a five hour version but I doubt we will ever see any of that. You can see some snippets of it in the trailer that are not in the movie.
This movie was an absolute masterpiece! One of the greatest films that I have ever seen and one of the most underrated. The whole cast shined but this scene always brought tears to my eyes and still does to this day. One of the most powerful films ever made.
I watched this movie like 15 years ago and thought it was great, but watching it again you realise what a fantastic and complete movie it is. They really knocked it out of the park ❤
Paco initially hates Miklo for the prison killings, but Cruz inadvertently reminds Paco that he (Paco) kind of put Miklo in there after they went after Spider to avenge Cruz. So Paco in a sense forgives Miklo, me thinks.
I take it as...it was a pact from the beginning of the movie and as kids growing up in the gang lifestyle. Paco hated Miklo because he wanted everyone to get out (all three of them) after Paco had his wake up call...However Cruz makes Paco realize that it was actually a chain of events that led to Miklo becoming who he became. Yes it's Paco's "fault", but in turn it is actually the fault of gang life. You end up hating each other, especially after one sees a better route (Paco) and one continues down the same path (Miklo). This is also brotherhood. I grew up with older brothers and one who went down the drug and addiction route. I blamed him for it, however not knowing that it was our suffering and how we were raised that led him to that route. I thought I was better than him, but in fact just like Paco, I didn't see the more pain I was causing by not speaking with him. This scene is powerful. I'm a Mexican American who grew up in low-income poverty in NYC, and this (although different Mexican upbringing in states) still hits home because the mindset and cultural mentality of Mexican Americans is somewhat the same (when growing up in low-income neighborhoods).
I grew up watching this movie, trying to be like these guys. 25 years later, while I no longer live this type of lifestyle, my life still relates to this in the sense that my close white friend who was always trying to be like us (trouble makers) is no longer in the picture and we were all like brothers growing up. Sad that our brotherhood was lost as adulthood kicked in. All that remains is my other OG homie and our bond will never be broken. We are fighters like these guys sparring at the end too. Life is a trip. I love this movie more than ever, nothing like it and captures the essence of my childhood like no other.
Phenomenal film! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Paco went from being Mr. Machismo to being the law. Miklo went from finding a way to fit in to being a charismatic leader. Cruz went from being an acclaimed and successful artist to being addicted to drugs. Goes to show that the choices you make not only affect you, but your family and those around you.
Holden Caulfield His baby brother died. It changed him. Then the marines disciplined him. Law enforcement and undercover vice was a natural progression for him. He wanted to fight drugdealers because drugs destroyed his brothers.
Because Cruz was the artist he had the ability to see the deeper meaning in things. His analysis of Paco was spot on here. You never know how these characters end up after this and I know it’s fiction but hopefully Paco found a way to forgive himself and Miklo so he can look back more fondly on their upbringing. It was an amazing ride for all three. So much pain and triumph but it’s all a part of life. You gotta take it all and make peace with it. The good and the bad. No one controls everything and everybody and they all were just trying to survive in a fuckin warzone like Cruzito said, and they did.
If this scene doesn’t make you dig deep into your own soul and come clean, I don’t know what will. The whole movie has a power that has never stopped gaining momentum !
What a film. Deep, hard hitting. Superb acting. Hollywood now has lost the art of making films like this. A long film that was worth every minute. Outstanding.
I recently got close with my brother and my mother who I hadn't looked in the eyes or talked to like you're supposed to in years. I wasted so many years being negative and avoiding them. I keep coming to this scene because it's emotionally accurate. Family is important. It's all you have and all you need when you've pushed away the wrong people who you thought were closer to you than your family.
As I get older I realize how little material things and carnal Pleasures can be compared to family, it’s all we really have in this life, cherish it, appreciate it and love it. Make god and family your priority in life.
this is the best scene. Everything he says is so very true. Sometimes we get lost in the twilight zone and have to go back home to start over. Dont ever forget where you come from.
As someone who is Black & White, extremely fair skin & raised around mainly Black folks & still live around mainly Black folks I know what Miklo felt. Miklo always felt that he wasn't Brown/Mexican enough because his folks were always using Miklo's skin color & his daddy's White blood in his veins to tease Miklo but his neighborhood had much love for him but Miklo took the teasing to heart & looked over the love. Miklo went to hard to prove to his folks & folks in prison how Brown/Mexican he was, so now Miklo being the head over 1000's Brown/Mexicans that make the body Miklo finally felt "truly 100%" Brown/Mexican and that no one would ever question it or tease him.
It’s crazy coming back 25 years later and watching this movie. This really was a classic. For hispanic community in the 80’s-90’s, this movie spoke to the culture so much. It was mom and dad, with traditional hispanic hardworking mentality. Working and saving, working and saving ( pulga on the weekends). Mom usually spoke no English, dads had broken English, but did alright. Kids with too much freedom running the streets reppin that gang life
Jesse is the most down to earth humble guy...just went through an actors workshop with him...such a great actor and awsome person. Was cool learning from him for almost 4 hours...love this movie!!!
I felt like Miklo my whole life , half black half Mexican trying to explain to every one I was Chicano my whole life despite my afro hair and wide nose and the fact my grandma never taught me Spanish. I was raised in a chicano house but I would do crazy things to prove myself, my story ended up more like Pacos , I did some bad stuff and up rooted my family but ended up with a great career and alright. But just now realizing the damage id done to my family
We come out chased by hounds ! Man this scene has stuck with me since my younger days, every now and then I come for inspiration. 2022 Aqui andamos! Bailamos hasta que nos morimos!
This scene should be played over and over again at all juvenile detention centers all over the world man it's very powerful 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🙌🏾the message Carrie's a serious weight....
This was a very powerful and underrated scene. I respect Paco for changing his life around, but at the same time he realized his mistake. Miklo idolized him and Paco goaded him into becoming a gangster. Unfortunately everything went bad for everyone, with Miklo going to prison disabled and Cruz's back being messed up and becoming addicted to heroin. Forgiveness is not for the other person, it is about you having peace for yourself. Also, forgiveness does not negate consequences; Miklo did some bad stuff, and even as head of La Onda, all the violence will come back to haunt him. Paco forgave Miklo, but that does not mean that he will continue to have a relationship with him, even though he is blood. Cruz really put it on Paco here.
Guilt is poison? You been brainwish to this movie. This movie is whack, bullshit, mess up, bad examples, demonizing, crap, misunderstanding and rubbish. The worst movie ever. Also Get Out, Lowriders 2017, My Family, Dolly Dearest, Get Hard, Hall Past, and Pumpkinhead are worst movies too.
Dwayne Cedillos -- Guilt IS poison. Its the cause of so many hardships that people go through. Its step one in people turning to drugs and doing other things that terribly affect their lives in the future.
" We come out chased by hounds! Wearing a pinche rabbits foot for luck!" Cruzito said this to me to in person this weekend. It was a badass experience. Best film ever.
