Vic and Blood, Harlan Ellison's much loved yet controversial characters, have recently received an updated publishing treatment. Thanks to the editor, Jason Davis, we now (2021) have a completed and final collection of the A Boy and His Dog cycle of stories. Much maligned and misunderstood, controversial and yet beloved, we decide to revisit these science fiction icons, now that their story is finally complete. Immortalised in comic, magazine, book and film, let's take a look at Vic and Blood with fresh eyes, and in doing so revisit two old science fiction friends.

I saw the film when I was 15 and thought the ending was awesome and hilarious. Now I'd love to get the book.

Hi folks. I popped off an e mail to Jason Davis, and got a reply. Seems there are no immediate plans to republish this great edition. "At present, the Ellison Estate is promoting a greatest hits compilation and the reissue of DANGEROUS VISIONS. AGAIN, DANGEROUS VISIONS and THE LAST DANGEROUS VISIONS will follow in the summer and fall. No plans beyond 2024 have been announced. Thanks for the kind words regarding BLOOD'S A ROVER. I was very happy to help Harlan finish that long-anticipated volume." So there we go. For Harlan Ellison fans, these reissues of His Dangerous Visions Collections would be something worth having. I've got the first of these myself. As for Blood's A Rover, seems 2nd hand bookstores, possibly things like ABEBooks may be your best bet of getting a hold of this work. Best Regards Doc

For me, the last line in the film is perfect. She would have left Blood to die. Also, I suspect, that after a nuclear war, women's rights would be of no concern.

I love the film and love the book equally. And it is a perfect last line for the dark humour. After a nuclear war there would indeed be no rights at all.

I always was very fond of "a boy and his dog" because of it being unconventional and liked the last line. After all C. did want to take over Topeka for herself!

Blood's A Rover is worth a look if you haven't caught all the Vic and Blood stories. It is indeed something I'm very fond of myself. Best regards. Doc

It's more a case of the setting and characters described being mysoginistic than the story itself being mysoginistic, it's supposed to be a dystopian future after all and the characters are definetly not portrayed as good people. Saying Ellison hates women because he wrote this is like saying he's a cannibal because he had Vic and Blood eat another person in his story.

I did this video primarily for the love of the story and also as an attempt to alter the perceptions of this work. To address an injustice if you will. I couldn't agree more, and I think Harlan deserves a lot more respect for his work with these characters. As I said, to me, they are science fiction royalty, icons, and two characters who I love. Does anybody here know how Vic survived afterthe spiders cause he seemingly appears in that screenplay with Spike from 1974 I cant find that information anywhere online and im not paying an obscene amount for the actual book

Hi Mutanttube! It seems the book is out of print and not currently available. I have two suggestions. 1) Contact Jason Davis the Editor at Edgeworks Abbey Archive. He may be able to help and possibly if enough interest might consider another run of the book. 2) Go second hand (www.abebooks.co.uk/9781946542991/Bloods-Rover-Complete-Adventures-Boy-1946542997/plp?cm_sp=plped-_-2-_-image) the previous edition is complete the only differences being some changes to the timeline. I explain the differences in the video. 2nd Hand copies are looking out of my price range, but if money is not an issue, try the above link to ABEBooks. Best I can do I'm afraid. It is indeed. If you check the video, you can find the original publications etc, and I think these would be easier to pick up second hand than the new book Doc
