I know this is 2 months old, but i need to let it go. Living failures made me quit bloodborne, ludwig was done in like 5 tries, i loved bloodborne but this memory of knowing a really Easy boss Made me quit, haunts me. I'm Ginna cry about it now
Woah, that's actually fascinating. I've been hellishly underleveled in the beginning of NG+ when beating both of them - Ludwig killed me 15 times, while Living Failures took me just one attempt - I find them the easiest boss of the whole Bloodborne and Ludwig the second hardest, just after Laurence (17 tries).
I don't blame you. Before I figured out the trick for their meteor shower attack I just kept on getting one-shot by that crap. Same thing with micolash. He would keep on spamming call from beyond and one shot me every single time.
*Virgin Father Gascoigne:* -goes to beast from man -uses a lame weapon you get at the start -is a sociopath -killed his wife _VS_ *Chad Ludwig:* -regains his sanity to fight you -has his guiding moonlight -killed everyone inside the area you fight him -is insane at first, but clings to his humanity like a legend
It is quite likely Gascoine went full beast BECAUSE his wife was killed, since we find her on a roof seeminlgy dead from falling. It's possible some beasts cornered her and Gascoine seeing her die was what pushed him to fully be consumed.
i didn't realise the parallel actually that Gascoigne goes more insane during the fight while Ludwig regains his sanity, and they are the first bosses of the main game/DLC respectively
I find phase two to be very easy, while phase one is nightmarish. In phase two, he's open to the usual "just wail on it's tail" tactic, and far easier to predict. Fire whirligig saw is a godsend.
Phase ones a cake walk, I could do it without getting hit at all after a few tries. But that one attack in phase 2 that has insane range always fucked me.
Phase 1: Cockroach enters my room and i howl and scream like a madman. Phase 2: I look at my drawer. "Ah, Axe body spray and lighter, you were by my side the whole time.:
The first mandatory boss of the DLC mirrors the first mandatory boss of the base game. While Gascoigne goes from man to beast, Ludwig goes from beast to man.
I'd say that even with the sword, he's still a beast, unless he's willfully trying to keep out the hunter. After his head comes off, he seems glad that you beat him and he isn't mad at the hunter. Seems like regardless of whether he regained a sliver of "humanity", the second stage is still very much a "beast", just standing upright and holding a gigantic fucking sword.
@@RedFloyd469 I judge it by weather the boss is roaring at you or shouting at you. If hes coherent enough to talk, hes human enough for the analogy. Still, you have a valid point.
I adore the subtle touch that in his second form, he no longer counts as a Beast, and weapons that do extra damage to Beasts don't affect him in the same way.
That soulsborne always with the littlest details that are so nice to see like how with Gael in his second phase the hollow slayers sword does more damage
blind people wont be able to witness the breathtaking transformation from menacing and disgusting monster to sword wielding badass deaf people wont be able to experience the absolute eargasm this theme is feel bad for both.
It’s what separates this from literally every other song in the soulsbourne series. A mini section that has your ears climaxing accompanied with a fire piece overall
During my encounter with Ludwig his sword attacks synced with choir singing and so I was in tune with everything going on I felt as if I was dancing with him, not just fighting. Needless to say that’s my favorite boss encounter in all soulsborne games so far
It's kind of like Midir's rampage or Placidusax's fire breath in that they're designed to sync perfectly with the score for a killer cinematic moment. Very memorable and it adds a lot to the fights imo.
You've heard stories of Ludwig, The Hunter of the Church. He was a hero, a legend echoed across the tales of every generation of Hunters. When you meet what remains of him, he is nothing but a beast, a monster like any other to be put down. The monster is savage, ruthless, brutal, and merciless. It gnashes and claws towards you, its bloodlust driving itself to kill you. Finally, the monster falls. It lies still in the pool of blood in its chamber. A faint, green glow in the shape of a sword then emanates beside the fallen beast in the darkness. It looks upon the blade. And then it speaks. "Ah, you were at my side, all along." It picks up the sword, observing its cosmic splendor. "My true mentor...my guiding moonlight..." And it stands upright, looking down at you. You are not facing a beast anymore. You now face Ludwig.
But anyway, what you said is true. When I was fighting Ludwig the Acursed, his attacks were completely random and he doesn't make sense, but when he got to the second phase, dear Lord, he was dancing withe the Moonlight Greatsword, and his patterns of attacks completely changed and the feeling that I get was that I was dancing with him in a prom night, a prom where one of the two was not getting out alive (sorry if I wrote something wrong, I don't speak english very well).
IgnusIncubus No, that was good English. And yeah, I felt the same way. It felt so sad, terrifying, and uplifting at the same time, seeing Ludwig retain his humanity for a few minutes to fight you. It's like I fought Ludwig and not a beast at that point.
Honestly I never even cared about who got nominated or won in those shows since I've seen and heard better shit than what they say are the best. This OST is one of those examples.
@@Haurent personal opinion Ghost of Tsushima deserved it for the Plot and Beautiful Japanese Open-World gameplay instead GOTY goes to a terribly written game that no one wanted to see Joel die and play as the charecter that killed Joel
3:42 THIS is how real horror feels like. Just a music that tells You something TERRIBLE is coming after You right now. This has to be the best song FromSoftware has ever created.
Then, you hear the sinister waltz-beat gradually come in like there's no escape. Just as the voices swell: "erit sanguine opulentuuuum" (and blood will be abundant). Oh fuck oh fuck OH GOD THE BRASS, OH GOD THE SWORD
I was level 100 with 40 vit when I defeated Ludwig and I had to use 2 vials to heal from a normal slash from that f-ing sword. The soundtrack perfectly show you the dread you should feel during his fight. (Most of the sword attacks can and will instakill you if you are not overleveled, experience talking here.😭)
I honestly don't think Ludwig the Accursed's theme gets enough love. The dissonance and chaos of the theme shows how far into beasthood he's gone, and it makes his second phase all the more impactful. It shows the bond Ludwig has with the Blade, and how even with how far gone he is, it still has the strength to lift him from the darkness. edit: I am talking about the first phase boss theme, gawd damn.
+Vincent Lee Has nothing to do with fanboyism. This track is objectively amazing, and if you think otherwise, well, even if it's your opinion, it's an awful one at that. That's why I tell you to get out.
Ludwig is probably the most well designed boss fight I've ever seen in a video game. Not a big gamer anymore, but Bloodborne has me blood drunk still and Ludwig is the pinnacle of it. He has the lore that you keep seeing and read about over and over again wondering if you'll actually see him until you do for the first time. He has in my opinion the most unique visual design of any boss in the game. He has this music that fits more perfectly into the fight than with any other boss in any game that I can think of. He's difficult without being overly difficult and is so fun and intense. Best boss Fromsoft has put out to this day.
@@rasedmohammad4632 I sadly don't. Like I said, I'm just not really a big enough gamer anymore to justify the $60. A friend of mine brought it over a couple of weeks ago and I played a little bit. Seems fun, but it would take something insane to knock bloodborne off its pedestal as far as from soft games go.
@@cashcash8365 i see its okay bro, i hope you would try when the elden rings got the discount, like i did at other souls game, even for bloodborne i bought a secondhand physical copy (i bet the last owner rage quiting or something, because it was very cheap tho around $15 😂) Edit : yes it is one reason why im buying PS4 to play bloodborne, btw its good to see a bloodborne lover, have a good day bro 😁
@@josephbrown6623 well he's kinda not and kinda is When you first fight him it's "ludwig the accursed" , then when he gets his blade he becomes "Ludwig the Holy blade"
My dear friend, As I write this letter, I am struggling to hold onto my humanity. The blood of the beasts courses through my veins and I can feel the transformation taking hold of me. I fear that soon I will lose myself completely to the darkness. But even as I succumb to this curse, I wanted to write to you one last time, to express my deepest apologies for the pain and suffering I have caused. I never meant for things to end this way, but I fear that it is too late to turn back now. I remember when I first picked up the Holy Blade, filled with the conviction that it was my destiny to rid the world of the plague of beasts. But as I swung the blade, cutting down one beast after another, I began to realize that the line between man and monster was not as clear as I had thought. And in the end, it was I who became the very thing I had sworn to destroy. I am so sorry for the harm I have caused, and for the shame that I have brought upon our order. But even now, as the beast within me grows stronger, I hold onto the hope that somehow, someway, my actions can be redeemed. So I beg of you, do not give up on me just yet. I know that I am beyond saving, but if there is even the slightest chance that I can be of use in the fight against the darkness that plagues this world, then I beg you to let me serve. Farewell, my friend. May the Good Blood guide you always. Your friend, Ludwig, the Holy Blade
@@MemeLordCrusader Yeah, I don't mind at all. Honestly, I found most DS3 bosses to be disappointingly easy anyway. Like I died more to curse rotted greatwood because I didn't understand the gimmick initially than I died to Friede, Gael and Demon Princes combined. Gael went down in a single attempt and I had like 6 flasks still left. I want more of the soul crushing difficulty that Malenia had than the toned down relatively simple stuff from the earlier Souls entries. (haven't played Bloodborne yet because I'm not on PS, so don't really know anything about the bosses, but I found this track playing in the background of a video and just had to find it lol. It's so good.)
@@ceral1871 But even without the dlc, there are still bangers like the Hail the Nightmare (Hypogean Gaol), Darkbeast Paarl, Amygdala, Moon Presence, and of course, Gehrman, the First Hunter. Even like Mergo's Lullaby and the Hunter's Dream are good asf.
That's as right as it gets. The first phase of the song has you yearn for more and then, especially when the chorus kicks in in the second phase, it blows your mind and ears away! Kinda like Ludwig himself: the first phase feels like suppressed potential, just another crazy beast dude, but when he goes second phase and you read the changed name at the bottom, you just want to say "More like the *holy shit*!" Oh, this ost just matches the boss so well, in every fucking way possible. Gives me an orchestra-boner every time I think about it!
@@Raidon484 I read Ludwig's lore before facing him (cuz the Ludwig's great sword of the shop), when i heard the corpse saying "Ludwig, the accursed" i was like "Holy shit is fucking him", and when the 2nd phase came after that cinematic i was emotional, almost teared up
That's what makes Ludwig so incredible. Alone, each of these bosses would still be fairly highly rated bosses. But the fact that these two fights are one in the same, have a huge story reason, and have the best cutscene in the series to show the transformation, that's what makes Ludwig the best boss in the series and possibly all of gaming
@@NinjaPickle if you go to him after beating him with church attaire he will ask if the church was successful in saving people and if all his fighting for the church was worth it and you were given option to say "yes" and "no" little did he know who he was fighting for. Poor guy.
Tbh, one of the reason why i love this OST so much, along with Gherman, the First Hunter is that, usually whenever i'm fighting a boss. At times i can't feel the soundtrack due to the adrenaline and intensity of the occuring boss fight. But this? I just felt hype and intensity man. Such an unforgettable moment.
ABSOLUTELY!!! I have to say that in caps because I agree 100% 100%! especially this song. Phase 1 is really cool and kinda creepy, like a predator (which kinda fits how he behaves) but as soon as phase 2 transitions into a waltz he song accompanies the battle perfectly. Gehrman's theme is amazing and also fits the fight so well, due to the general tone of that fight too. It feels like a climax, but not the kind of climax you were expecting (like, against a great one or something). you feel melancholic and the song fits it so well.
Ludwig's design is so incredible. He looks like this absolutely horrid monster that looks like a horse and a man in halfway finished with being painfully fused together, which makes him bewildering in the first half and sickening overall. But when the second half of the fight starts and he regains even some of his sense and takes up the Moonlight Greatsword, the way he stands upright makes him look vaguely like a gallant swordsman riding a horse. Still putrid looking, and nothing's changed but the posture and him talking; but that small change allows you to see even just a small glimpse of how majestic he must have been in life as a human.
And one of the best boss fights(My top 1 personally tho) in the entire Soulsborne series. Honestly, majority of the bosses in the vanilla Bloodborne were flat out boring as bosses but amazing design and OST but the DLC made me jizz in my pants.
Quite literally the only context I have of Bloodborne, is this song, and someone pointed out to me that if you switch around the last 3 letters you get Bloodboner.
Ive been with Xbox for close to 15 years, mainly because that's where all my close friends are but a few weeks back I bought a PS5 aswell, because I wanted to play a few games on it, including ofc Bloodborne since Souls games is one of my favorite game series. I went into this game legit not knowing anything, I genuinely knew nothing about the game. Finished it just 2 days ago and what a masterpiece it is. Now earlier tonight I started the DLC and its safe to say the goosebumps I got from the 4:49 bit made me lose focus and die, fine by me though since that's just another go at fighting this amazing boss and hearing the beautiful soundtrack. No idea if anyone is gonna see this or even read it for that matter, but lets all continue supporting FromSoft and their incredible talent at making games.
I love how in the first part, when Ludwig is a mindless eldritch monster, the music is dark and sinister, reflecting his state of being. When Ludwig stands upright and fights as a swordsman instead of a beast, the music shifts to become triumphant and heroic, as if to say that even if Ludwig dies, he can at least die with a bit of humanity left.
RazorBeak Plus, if you didn't already know, he is considered a beast during phase 1 of the fight, but when phase 2 starts, he no longer takes extra damage from attacks that are good against beasts.
Its because in phase 2 you not fighting with mindless beast when he looks at his sword, his true mentor, his guinding moonlight he recalled about his humanity And now you not fight with the beast You fight with Ludwig, with his one last piece of humanity With great hunter who just forget who is he
I’m definitely glad he did. In his discovery of it once again, he had regained his humanity and sense of self long enough to be finally put out of his misery by the hunter
Ludwig is the pinnacle of Souls games. A man who has been to his lowest point and literally has no hope of returneing to his most glorious days. A man that is no longer a man. But when he must fight for his life, he remembers what he can do, who he really is. And then he lifts his sword...
@@Kdarco. slave knight gael is more about Dark Souls only. A man on a mission yo change the world. He is more like the chosen undead, rather than the world of the game.
Ludwig may be many things but the top spot would always belong to Gael. He is such a huge character in from soft games. He travelled to the end of the world and time itself to accomplish what he was doing. Ludwig fell early. He is more like Artorias from DS1.
@@Kdarco. gael is not a fallen man given a last chance of redemption. He is more like the player. The world however is in ruins. It is past its former glory and now awaits for its end. Ludwig is as such. A man taken by his greed and bloodlust. A man powerful but now just a shadow of his former glory. And yet in our fight he has a last chance to fight for his honour. To fight for survival, giving some more time for this god forsaken world to exist. He is what every boss is meant to be. The remains of the world trying for a chance to show they are not beaten yet.
As a musician of four instruments and a composer, I must say... This is GENIUS. It's something extraordinary that we have been gifted with. Truly magnificent!
I find his sword form way harder because he's much more aggressive. I've basically learned the fight to perfection because it's my favourite fight ever but even than, the second phase still screws me up sometimes even to this day. It's much harder to fully learn the second phase.
@@adamkhan6898 No. His first form is way more aggressive and unpredictable. His attacks are very telegraphed in his second phase and gives you lots of time to think.
The fact that is composed with notes deemed ugly, tense and difficult to base on and still be as Beautiful as it is is astonishing. This ost also has the essence of Ludwig and the flow of the battle down to the letter.
Best boss design: Ludwig Best boss lore: Gehrman Best fight: Ludwig Best soundtrack: Laurence Best BB boss: Ludwig He's my second favorite fight in the whole series as well
@@LuM4rex well it's been over a year since my comment and my list changed quite a lot in that time. As of now, my top 5 would be 5. Ludwig 4. Maliketh 3. Radahn 2. Godfrey 1. Isshin
This is the greatest bossfight in video game history, a perfect 180 in the second phase, perfectly represents the lore, is fun, and the perfect cutscene in the middle. This is peak entertainment.
Ludwig got me into bloodborne. This is my favorite fight ever. I don’t even think I can classify this as a “fight” since it’s something greater and much honorable. The lore, the soundtrack, the philosophy. This one specifically is FromSoftware’s masterpiece. Praise you Ludwig, my lord. Your suffering was not for nothing
@@nh2191bro i swear its like almost everyone assumes yuka made all fromsoftware osts for some reason Anyway i feel like the others are underapreciated, i love tsukasa's ost especially Morgotts and ghermans themes
This annoys me so much every time i see it lol, Yuka Kitamura isn't the only composer that worked on these games... I swear 95% of the music always gets credited to her, leaving all the other composers unmentioned.. The amount of people who gave praise to Yuka for the Elden Ring theme, when in reality it was Tsukasa Saitoh's composition, god.. The description even lists the composer team for Bloodborne..., though this was solely composed by Nobuyoshi Suzuki. Yuka was only responsible for 4 tracks on the BB OST.
The moment the swings from the Moonlight great sword synced up with the soundtrack choir was probably one of the most badass experience in gaming I've ever had
????? ????? If you find the patterns and dodge alot, you're pretty good, but both jump attacks are utter horseshit though, they feel like chance survivals
the moonlight greatsword has always been my mine weapon from dark souls 1-3, elden ring and even demon souls and i went into bloodborne blind when i saw the sword i was shocked and i knew i needed to claim what is mine if i remember right i said to him 'that sword belongs to me'
That feel when you tried so hard to kill a cockroach in your house, and then you finally managed to hit it with the cockroach spray. You thought it died, but then it raises up with its wings.
Seriously? You forgot ludwig? I hope you never fought him because nobody who fought Ludwig should be capable of forgetting that name! The guy was a nightmare on my first run lol
Honestly, I think Ludwig still stands as my favorite boss of all of FromSoft's games. Like, just overall; the combination of gameplay and subtle lore implications still stands unmatch in my opinion

Absolutely. My two favourite games have my two favourite soundtracks, Hollow Knight (like a calm eargasm or mildly intense one) and Bloodborne (a fear-drived intense BDSM on crack and steroids eargasm).
Watch an analysis of this, this song has a lot of depth. Near the end, it goes higher to be more heroic, but also switches to strings. It has falling and rising tones with cymbal crashes, suggesting madness even though ludwig had this big revelation that he was still a hunter. apparently, the beats resemble a waltz, meaning that this song is not only about ludwig standing up into humanity, but also about his dance with madness.
@@quaken7652 yea but surprisingly for how long Elden Ring is, it didn't have a whole lot of bangers in music. The addition of background music was nice but most didn't grap the attention quite like I'd expected

Memories of old return, remembrance of who he is. The madness burns away. Before us, once a beast, again a man Ludwig, Hunter of the Church. Ludwig, The Holy Blade.
yeah Elden Ring was great, but most of the music was more or less what I expected it to be. the only thing that comes close is Malenia's second phase music
