Our Bloodhound has been in my family for 5 yrs now...she was my sons dog to used to track deer...but he joined the Marines 2 yrs ago...so she became mine. They are the best breed ever...they are so loving (and slobbery)...but have such soulful eyes and sprirt! I will always own a Bloodhound!!
As a hound owner, this is all spot on. I put so many hours of training in with mine and it paid off, but, so many ppl don't know anything about hounds. Gotta love the lab owners who criticize your HOUNDS recall and leash walking. Or the owners who get scared and think your dog is aggressive when they hear it start baying. 😒
labs are retrievers they are bread and trained to stay next to you and are easy to train because the best way to exercise is simply to play fetch with them that his what they were bread to do fetch ducks in Canada. the name lab or Labrador comes from the Labrador Sea between Iceland and Canada. the dog is one of the greatest Canadian dog breads it has a water-resistant coat webbed paws and in Canada there are many stories of Labrador retrievers saving drowning children from the water without any training to do so by acting like a bowie for the child. that and their extremely stable temperament is kind of why they are known to be such amazing dogs and also the most popular. labs refer to Labrador and they are retrievers just to let you know. also, this is coming from a family who had dog sleds and kennels they are easy to train and probably the only other dog you can tie to a sled like a husky, and he will pull it and do his job right without much need to train him. BUT ate the end of the day me and my grand-fathers favorite bread was still a hound our great Dane my grand pas called him cash after his favorite singer johnny cash he was a gentle giant and howled all the time when he got excited, and he was loud sounded like he had speakers instead of vocal cords.
We lost my beautiful bloodhound Buford to cancer 2 years ago this month after 10 wonderful years and I'm still finding slobber in spots on my walls 😜 He was actually aggressive toward little dogs - until we had him neutered - then he was a gentle giant. Living in SE Texas with the high humidity, I had to clean his ears weekly or his ears would get epic smelly yeast infections. He was definitely stubborn but a big lap dog and wonderful companion. We miss him and our long walks. Everywhere we went, curious people would stop me to ask about him. He was treated like a movie star at my vet's office - everyone just adored him. Great review Liam pretty spot on!
my dad had a friend with one of these back in the 90s, his friend said take off one of your socks and hide it anywhere in this property ... my dad walked through the house into the back yard, hid it under a stand up bird feeder on the back corner of the lot. then walked back in, was instructed too take off his other sock to let the dog smell. that dog caught the scent and took the exact same path my dad did to the bird feeder less than 2 min. needles to say my dad loss the $100 bet...AMAZING
I have had two of these red hounds. They are the best at tracking in the world and also great lap dogs. You have never been loved until you have been loved by a Bloodhound.
What a beautiful dog! And he's not drooling in the video - they always give an image of bloodhounds that they're ALWAYS drooling. lol I love scent hounds, and hounds in general, but I'm not sure if they'd be the right fit with me...
I have a 6 month old bloodhound and so far this hits spot on! His name is Patton and he is red with a black tent on his tail! He learns quickly, but stubborn at times! He is the best dog I've had and is extremely active he'll run right beside me for about half a mile and then go around sniffing! He is trained, but must get a good run in before he listens to everything I say. I love my stubborn, slobbery, cuddler soo much!
Great breed! I have had many many breeds and never such an awesome companion. they will definitely make you laugh everyday with their vocalisations. I'm 6-3 280 lb and mine has pulled me off my feet several times on a scent. So be prepared. They are very very strong.
Ours is the sweetest loving precious adorable dog we ever had. He cried out like we were going to kill him when we tried to leash train at puppy preschool lol! He’s a living doll and gentle with kiddos. We love him so much
Surprisingly, this is my favorite dog breed. They're worthless, but I've never enjoyed a dog so much. I inherited mine when she was about 9 months old, and after I established dominance and got a choke chain for walking her in populated areas, she's been a great, obedient dog. She's a little bit of work cleaning up after her, and she sheds terribly. They slobber, they have eye boogers, the have to have their ears cleaned regularly, they need their mouths and ears wiped after meals. But, my favorite dog ever. She likes hugs. She likes to be involved in everything I do. She's a clown dog.
I’ve been looking into getting a bloodhound in the near future and this video definitely helped! I’ve been doing research to make sure I’d be a good owner :) thank you!
I’m a proud Bloodhound owner they are so difficult to train they are soooo stubborn...don’t feed them corn, turkey, pork ... they love beef, a little sweet potato..occasional fish lamb ect...little rice is nice too...I walk my Bloodhound a few times a day they are so not the dog to jog with lol...keep them on the leash at all times...yes my dog Bluebelle the Bloodhound’s nickname is “ moose” she’s a big ol “ moose” galavanting about...
Loved the comedic value you put into this review. The tangent about the working man just wanting to sit down and have a beer was hilarious. I just rescued a 6 mo old Bloodhound pup and WOW is she a lot of work... but well worth it. Love her to death!
Good video but there's a couple of things you didn't mention The blood hound has big jowls and so he's going to produce a lot of sliver. When he shakes his head he can fire that sliver 20ft! Because they have such long ears, when they drink water they get their ears wet! I've never known a bloodhound that doesn't have almost permanently wet ears. They have ferocious appetites, and not just for food, though this will improve when they are fully mature. The problem is, the bloodhound can take up to a year to grow out of puppyhood pranking and during that time you need to be really guarded about what you leave around. Bloodhounds are known to eat mobile phones, entire houseplants and even batteries. Bloodhound puppies love nothing more than chomping on electrical cables.
...And they are LOUD. Your walls and windows will shake when your bloodhound "sirens". (I like to call it the dog-alarm.) Not recommended for apartment living and light sleepers.
Great video! Had dogs all my life and I’m in my mid fifties but less than a year ago got Hank (he was 9 months old and my first bloodhound). He has been the most stubborn dog ever!!!! I love him and he is definitely lovable but can be accidentally dangerous as he has poor boundaries and will knock you down by running right into you (and our 3 year old granddaughter). Not a mean bone in his body though. We are working with him but definitely not a great dog for everyone even though they are great dogs❤
Got a rescue bloodhound before my last mastiff. So... bloodhounds stink. Not horrible but they have a “musky” odor. If you’re gonna keep it inside, and why don’t you keep your dog inside, that’s an issue. Also you can’t fill them up. They will put their head in the bowl and not come out till it’s empty. Not a big deal but ration food. And last also, if they get on a scent that really interests them, they are gone. Gone and you won’t catch them. But beautiful dog and the baying is just awesome.
Yea my hound is like yours he’s only 8 months and big and he is so skinny buh weighs soo muchh more than my German Shepard and he is so hyper and has so much energy he’s little and knows a lot of tricks
Your not kidding we have a new addition to our family he's a 50/50 his mom is bloodhound and father is redbone, he's 9wks old and 44pnds he looks a lot like the one on the couch but more red we named him Ruger and when he bays the whole house shakes.😜
I love my bosses bloodhound because he's so loving. That said, I hate the way he salivas and then shakes his head spreading up the walls and all over our clothes. He is very food orientated and he will eat things he's not supposed to so we have to make sure things are well out of his reach... which is difficult because he's so big!
Hmm...I've only ever seen one bloodhound that had something that could possibly be called a mean streak...If he didn't know you, and you went up to pet him, and didn't let him smell your hand first, he'd try his right and level best to sink his teeth into it. But if you let him get a good sniff first, he was just as friendly as any other bloodhound.
Great video, but what has happened to your bloodhounds head? It's a modern type in the US more sporty? I know thems with a big wrinkeld face, loose skin and volumed body?😳!?Greets
*Please take a moment and read this* We've had our Bloodhound for about 2 years, and we just recently found out they needed walks everyday, and socialize more. Honestly, we give him walks once or twice a week because I am so busy. I dont want to get rid of him because I love him so much. He is aggressive towards house guests because of this reason ( Doesnt bite, but barks *alot* ). I've heard you're supposed to give him training when they're young.. is it too late? I want to take him on walks everyday now, and socialize more so he doesnt bark so much at my guests. He is in great condition, other than seizures. (Very rare for bloodhounds I am assuming). He just needs training, and I am wondering what I should do. Get rid of him? Or get him trained? If I send him to another family who can take care of him, I am afraid he wont be happy. Some help would be fantastic. Thank you!
You never mention how much these dogs ears stink, lol. I had a tree walker coonhound. Loved that dog. So sweet! But stink? Oh yeah. Great dog but you have to know that they stink.
It gives you an idea of characteristics the breeds have. Reviewing dog breeds can give you an idea of temperament, physical needs, nutritional needs, shedding, activity level, stubbornness. Don’t get this breed if you’re not active or patient.
Never trust a Blood hound to be kep outside on it's own and think it'll come back home. I know a farmer who makes his own Fisla Brazilario, the ghetto version, by crossing southern game bred pit bulls with bloodhounds. They look just like Filsa Brazilario with more gameness.
