Regarding the ratcheting function:
The best answer for this issue can be read on our forum where our own Andrew Ikenberry talks about it.
Here's the link to the whole discussion:
forum.qubitelectronix.com/t/b...
But if you'd just like Ikenberry's words--here they are:
"The only reason we have not released an update for the Bloom is that due to the chip shortage, there are many different versions of the hardware which may end up requiring making 3-4 different versions of the firmware, and certain versions are more difficult to update the firmware than others.
Unless we can find an elegant solution to that problem, the update would be almost impossible to accomplish due to managing firmware creation, and bug tracking etc. for each separate version of hardware.
I hope this sheds some clarity!
We are very interested in ongoing support for our products.
This is actually one of the reasons we started basing all new designs on the Daisy platform for easy updating, and backwards compatible firmware."

seems pretty cool. One question- with the with the PATH, BRANCHES, and MUTATION knobs, do they only change CV (v/oct) values or can they also introduce changes to the gate trigger pattern as well?
@QuBitElectronix
@QuBitElectronix 5 месяцев назад
Branches and Paths will introduce both CV and Gate On/Off variations, but are separate from the main trunk sequence. Mutation will only affect the CV, but it's destructive to the main trunk sequence. It's not permanently destructive however; you can revert back to your original sequence by holding SHIFT and pressing the RESET button. Hope this helps!
@jonridley

Something I’m not sure I’m missing but would like to know more about is whether it’s possible to alter gate length. My music is quite ambient and slow drones etc and long envelopes is what I tend to like. I may be missing something but couldn’t work out how to make long gates.
@QuBitElectronix
@QuBitElectronix 11 месяцев назад
You can change a step's gate length by holding down the step's encoder, and turning the encoder while holding it down!

Nicely explained vids. Any news on a firmware update? One that has the actual ratcheting (not note repeat) ? This is really what Bloom needs
@QuBitElectronix
@QuBitElectronix 2 года назад
This is an excellent idea for a feature on Bloom, and we have considered it before for a possible firmware update. Due to the hardware revisions made in response to massive chip shortages, not all Blooms are capable of being updated. Though these types of features could be implemented, not all Bloom users would be able to take advantage of the new features. We will keep this suggestion (which is awesome) in mind for the future, should a possible solution arise that would let all Bloom users to update.
@cockur
@cockur 2 года назад
@@QuBitElectronix "We currently have a Bloom update slotted that will introduce true ratcheting, with the ability to switch between repeats and ratchets". I will probably sell it in that case. It shouldn't have been sold in the first place if it wasn't as capable as other units
@gubooo2000

Can I ask the rationale behind making the root control diatonic rather than chromatic? I’ve had my bloom for a while and I find it very difficult to use alongside other sequencers As I can only “transpose” my sequence within its own key, Such that I need an external quantizer to actually change the key signature, While merely having the root note transpose chromatically regardless of the scale setting would allow me to very easily match my sequence to the key of my song
@QuBitElectronix
@QuBitElectronix 11 месяцев назад
Hi, @gubooo2000 and thanks for your questions. The reason we chose diatonic scaling for Root is because it keeps the knob musical and in key with the trunk sequence. The Root knob was designed to work in harmony with the rest of Bloom, as opposed to adjusting the key of the sequence itself. Hope this sheds some light on concerns - and happy patching!
@gubooo2000
@gubooo2000 11 месяцев назад
@@QuBitElectronix Actually in the year of owning Bloom since writing this comment, I have come full 180 and totally understand and really appreciate the choice for diatonic root scaling. It's fantastically useful! I really like that I can send CV values to the root note and effectively modulate the whole sequence in a way that is diatonically related. Diatonic chord changes! It's great. The only reason i wanted chromatic key shifting was so that i could use math to match keys during a performance, but I realize that's sort of an immature way to use eurorack (and can be done with adders easily), while with diatonic shifting I can use that same kind of math to do modal stuff - Bloom is awesome.
@adam_aronson
@adam_aronson 2 года назад
One thing I noticed as I followed along... My Path LEDs only lit up to the third one and I needed to turn the knob fully CW to get it there. Any ideas why?
@QuBitElectronix
@QuBitElectronix 11 месяцев назад
The amount of available Paths is determined by the amount of Branches selected. If only 1 Branch is selected, there will only be 2 Paths available across the Path knob. If you have 7 Branches selected, then you can scrub through 128 different Paths.
@heimlichvonbladderburst8348
Quick question please as I am quite interested in this module - if I reload a sequence and set Mutations/Branches/Paths/Root to the exact same values I used last time, would I get the same fractal evolution of the sequence?
@QuBitElectronix
@QuBitElectronix Год назад
Hello! Each of these functions behave a bit differently when it comes to their algorithms, so we'd be happy to clarify. The Branches and Paths algorithms are newly generated each time a new pattern is loaded. This can be when a pattern is saved or loaded in the Pattern submenu, or when Bloom is power cycled. The Branches and Paths algorithms are not saved with the patterns, and are procedurally generated each pattern update. Mutations is always random, with the knob/CV input increasing the percentage a note will change when played. So Branches/Paths=new algorithms every time a pattern is saved/loaded/power cycled, and Mutations=always random changes to the root sequence. Hope this helps!

@wizzyforeverr
@wizzyforeverr 12 дней назад
so i am still a bit confused on tuning this thing. i understand selecting the scale, but i keep getting notes outside of the key i wanted. what is the range on the root note setting, is each light a half step? and when i send it into a tuner it says my notes are hitting 20-30 cents off, is there a way to fine tune it?
@QuBitElectronix
@QuBitElectronix 8 дней назад
The Root knob is a diatonic transposition of Bloom's sequence. It will stay in the key of your oscillator's frequency and Bloom scale. That being said your notes shouldn't be 20-30 cents off. If you are having trouble with tuning on your Bloom, our support team would be happy to troubleshoot it with you! You can reach out via the contact form on our site.

Is there a way to constrain the different notes played? When my Bloom is meandering away, occasionally a note higher than I would really like will pop out unexpectedly. I understand that this is the whole point and charm of this module, but sometimes I would like a degree of control.
