This doesn't beat the time in the 90s when a guy was ready to play 10 chances and under all 3 tags, it showed the correct price instead of the numbers he had to choose from. Of course, he won all three prizes due to the producers goofing up. Then the same guy won the showcase showdown when both other contestants went over and Bob said, "This guy here is going to showcase and he didn't have to do a single thing!"

The funniest thing about that 10 Chances blooper was Bob's comment after the game that three different people had inspected the game board before the game, and all three of them had failed to notice the mistake.....

@@JH-kn6rt My understanding is that the audience members are not allowed to bring in price lists, but there's no way you can stop someone from studying the show, and since they encourage people to shout out prices, someone may be able to shout out the correct price every time. You can hear someone yelling "650," but that doesn't guarantee that any of the contestants will believe him.

Exactly why old episodes are so much better - today, they'd just edit and play for it something else or play a different game altogether.

No they wouldn’t for two reasons One, it would take too much time to find and setup a new prize and game. Each show is planned out in advanced quite meticulously to have 36-38 minutes of taped time but more importantly. Two, CBS standards and practices would step in and declare it a default win anyway. In doing so, the production company and the network comply with federal law and they avoid a future lawsuit from the contestant. So if this were to happen today they’d still give the contestant the prize

@@YoungTrash-ro1ip Not necessarily, because a prize was neither revealed nor described to the contestant. Referencing the one time Triple Play was supposed to be played, but replaced by Money Game for one of the three cars because of a snafu in who was supposed to play; the incorrect person lost before ever reaching the Money Game car. Also referencing an 80's Behind the Scenes look at "Any Number" that had a technical stop down, and S&P mentioned that revealing the prize limited the options. Plus, the producers almost always have a backup; usually Money Game or Double Prices because of their simplicity. Your point of time is very valid though, especially when the senior staff insisted on a "live to tape" show for those in the theatre.

That was from Season 17, in which the TPIR Barker channel will eventually show in the years to come since they’re only on the last part of Season 13 and beginning Season 14. Bob was internally fuming about that mistake twice as he was already EP. Here he hasn’t because he’s not EP yet

It was pretty standard for TPIR to do this when they had a a technical issue like that. Yes. The contestants on TPIR are dressed presentable back in the 1970s to 1980s. Today's TPIR contestants would wear TPIR t-shirts that's most likely to be made either from a local graphic designer or DIY with accessories from any store (Walmart, Dollar General and other stores).

That Isuzu pickup truck must have been the absolute base model-hard to tell, but I think $6334 was the price shown. “Comes with California emission.” The one offered in the infamous “I wanna hear a little horn” playing of One Away (just five weeks prior) was $7132-it also had power steering and air conditioning. All that aside, Rene didn’t have to do anything at all to win, and you can’t argue with that! 😎

Keep in mind that this was the 1980's. By today's standards, a $6000 car would probably be the equivalent of a car worth at least $15,000 if you take inflation to account. It was probably a new model of the time. TPIR isn't known for handing out basic or used cars, they always gave away the best models car companies have on hand.

According to a site which keeps statistics for every season of TPiR, the truck was worth $6,314, which when added to the chairs Rene won ($650), gave him a prize total of $6,964. Rene would make the Showcase round, winning the Showcase Showdown with 80¢, but losing to another contestant.

Has to be basic. Most cars in the 1985 episodes were in the 7 or 8 thousand range. This could have also been a Dice Game car- since I think they still played the regular version at times in 1985.

Barker was so cool and pleasant back then. Unfortunately, as he got older, he did little to hide the fact that he was getting more and more tired of stupid contestants. He has never been totally nasty to anyone but sometimes, he had little patience for contestants who didn’t listen or took forever before giving an answer to a question.

I actually don't.....reason being.........the price was so low on the board here. I think this one was set up to be one of those "forced" losses....remember too this was near the end of the season so they had to be watching the budget heavily. I can imagine this particular win hurt them a fair bit.

@@LittleRockElevatorsWell, the minimum on the range that day was set at $6,100-$6,250, meaning Rene would have had to stop the range after it had moved anywhere from $64-$364 if he had stopped the bottom of the range at exactly $6,314 would the game have been played as per usual. Doesn’t seem very likely that he would have stopped it that fast, but we will never know. *🤷*

Surprisingly, the producers, Bob,and Drew are all understanding as we all make mistakes in life. One of the models made a mistake a few years ago by revealing the price of a car a bit too early and Drew and the producers told her mistakes happen though she was embarrassed by the matter and thought she was fired or a deduction was going to be taken out of her paycheck for a while but they didn't care it happened and left it go on tv. That's what everyone loves about the price is right. Stuff happens whether its a mechanical mistake, technical mistake, or a human mistake and the producers understand that and give the prize away anyway.

Wrong. It’s $6,314, meaning he would’ve had to stop it at $6,164-$6,314 or $6,314-$6,464. If you look closely at where the green arrow is pointed, it’s almost directly between the 10 and 20 above $6,300.

Nah, the game was already ruined. Playing the game anyway would have been anticlimactic as Rene would’ve known exactly when to stop it, which isn’t exactly sporting on the contestant’s part (but also not their fault), and Bob would’ve just said “Ahh, who cares? Just light it up, we already know he won the truck.”. Not exactly edge of your seat television.
