This is not only for my viewers, but for my kids as well. In case something happens to me some day, they can go back and watch this stuff. Often when I’m trying to teach them something, it’s hard to keep their attention. TicToc, and Instagram etc…. Faces in the phone and distractions all the time.
Just starting a blow throw SBC build now and out of the blue this old vid appears on my recommendations. I'm a subscriber of the Chanel but don't remember this. Anyway, I learnt more invaluable information for my build in a few minutes of this video than from any video I can think of. Thank you!
Thanks Bill. Class is definitely in session! Never messed with a blow thru carb but it makes a lot of sense now how it works. Part of the reason I love your channel, the info you hand out is priceless and useful Thanks brother. Good luck this weekend
This has become one of my favorite RU-vidr channels. Nowadays you don't see families like this, really puts the icing on the cake. You're a good man and you've raised two good kids that have a career in front of them because of you. Everyone go sign the RPM ACT and help save street cars and racing as a sport.
Just thought you would get a laugh out of this: Hobby is when you buy a new car with efi, Passion is when you keep the old carb cars running. (p.s. I dont drive anything newer then a 1986 and I have a lot of passion.)
I would take a carb any day of the week over EFI in my daily driver. It was so much easier and cheaper to bang on a float bowl if there was fuel deliver problem.
Fr lol I been alround EFI and imports my whole life. But man nothing can beat the sound of a v8. Also the advice you gave this video was really helpful, it helped me at least get a understanding about how carburetors work. I know I’m on a rant but most people my age don’t know jack shit about cars, damn they can’t even change a wheel or a interior bulb lol.
@@heyitsdurancitooo5212 It is crazy how good a V-8 sounds. I think it is harmonic perfection. Just a balance of sound that for lack of a better word "SINGS". Almost musical, I know that sounds crazy. Like there are guitars and then there are GUITARS. I'm talking Allman Brothers, Chris Stapleton, Warren Haynes Guitar. Take Care and God Bless
Mr. Bill I run a 355 with a Procharger on the street and some track time. I extended the vent tubes on my 750 carb about a year ago. I was able to take alot of jet out the carb to lean out out a very rich part throttle problem. It's the best thing I could have done to my carb yet. It drives and runs great now just a little rich on WOT but a slight jet change in the secondary should fix that. Thank you so much for sharing what you know on carburetors. I am constantly looking at ways to make a blow thru carb run better. Thank you.
I been playing with carbs all my life. But never with forced air. You taught me a lot in this video. Them boys better listen to the ol’man. With all the EFI bolt on stuff today what you just showed everyone is a lost art. Great video Bill. Please do some videos on bracket racing. Teach people you don’t need a tube chassis car and a $30,000 dollar big block to go racing. I bracket raced years ago with a 340 Plymouth Duster, and didn’t have $2500 in the whole car. This was the early 90’s
Omg. U missed ur calling. U been best shop teacher ever. Listen to you all day teach. Let's build it together episodes. Thank you sir. Your boys very lucky.
Bill, You've managed to do something that nearly NO one else has in a LONG LONG time. And thats keep my full attention to learn something that I'm very interested in. There's several high school teachers that are very envious of you right now. 😉 lol. Great video Sir. You have a way of explaining things in terms we all can understand. 🙏🇺🇲🏁 And all of you and your family be safe.
thanks for the rundown mate! Many of us love our inline 6's here in Australia as a result I've only worked with fuel injection so learning how you guys roll with a carb is awesome.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICAN FLAG! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNITED STATES ARMY! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRESIDENT TRUMP!!!!! Take Care and God Bless (Comments made on 6/14/2021)
Man I really wish I could spend time with this man I learn some of what I'm missing as a mechanic I've had cars on been on tracks just have never had the money to go turbo or big nitrous I was always playing it safe an running all motor cars wish you had a program for guys to come of course with there own travel trailer an hell idk work for free doing whatever for a couple 2-3 just to learn like what was in this video an like your ignition set ups an controls box's I love this channel. I'm 58 old school don't an won't do fuel injection. Love the info please never stop making your videos huge respect to you an your family for taking the time I try to watch them all an hit the thumb 👍 up.
Great info! However one thing doesn't quite make sense to me, I get why you want the regulator referencing in vacuum, which is why you're referencing from below the body, but if you've got about 8 psi base fuel pressure at the valve seat, bowls are referenced from the hat but fuel is from the intake, and at 25 psi of boost (in the intake) you have 5 psi more in the hat, that would mean your bowls are seeing 30psi, yet the fuel pressure would only be 33psi (because the regulator would only be seeing 25psi, adding thatuch on top of your 8 psi base) so that's only 3 psi fuel pressure on the seats... Or am I wrong? (Sorry, cant word things very good)
Atta boy Pops,I know no matter what,YOU will figure out whatever the problem is… Your knowledge, and drive will put that S-10 back where it should be…Of course,Billy plays a very intergal part in the equation also!!! Remember, team work makes the dream work!!!😉
Saw Billy`s vid Bill. The truck was rippin, but Billy needs to clean the oil off the chute lol. Love the explanation on the carb. You guys worked hard to get Billy back on the track. Question....What do I have to do to replace the tbi on a 1991 C1500 with a 350ci stock engine. Tbi sucks, would rather have a carb. Totally stock truck. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Stay safe all, God Bless.
Jeez! 😲 Those accelerator pump nozzles are HUGE. That's a SHITLOAD of fuel that they dump in there. The boosters really start coming on quick too. It's amazing how much more fuel the engine needs on Methanol.
Knowledge like this normally goes to the grave. Its nice you can make videos like this for your youngins so they can always look back but I hope future generations see this as well. Not only are you a nitrous guru, you are an all around guru. One of a kind for sure, not many people left like you Bill. Thank you for the in depth videos like this.
Excellent job on this video bill. I look at this video 📹 from time to time. Between you and pink carbs I've got an education on something I thought I had a decent handle on. lol... not. Haha. These type of videos are very helpful for anyone. Only thing I've done differently is I put a small flare on the end of the ext. Tubes to smooth out the airflow consistency. Thanks Bill
How long should the vent tubes be ? I am building my own blow through carburetor myself. I think that engine sounds better carbureted vs fuel injected. I have watched that truck since the first src videos came out. Thanks a lot Bill for your valuable information.
Bill, I've gotta F2 procharger on a 572 and I've been battling some major issues with my carb. I would pay you to swing by or talk on the phone about some of my issues. I'm literally 5 minutes tops from mcvays. Let me know if u got ten minutes to discuss
Bill what wastgate springs do yall have installed? Unless you have strong springs in the wastegate it should not make 15psi unless you have c02 pressure adding on top of the dome. I have a activation switch I use to activate my AMS1000 boost controller so I won't add dome pressure untill I flip the switch right before the run. I have 6psi springs in my wastegates and never get over 5psi of boost durring the burnout
QUESTION Do you use any type of top end lube with the Methanol I know they make Flavored ones Grape ,Strawberry I had a friend that used Marvel Mystery oil as a top lube ??
At the risk of sounding like Mr. Safety, Billy should really be wearing fireproof gloves. They are not that expensive and it doesn’t take much fire to damaged those small but very freaking useful appendages. I hope it never happens, but in case of a fire, your hands are your way out of a burning race car. A couple dollars for Sfi rated gloves would seem pretty inexpensive, if there was flames around you.
Heres a thought, more flow, more fuel. If you vent the bowls outside the hat, wouldn't you be able to run regular power valves ( ported of course) for the needed fuel. Too many poeple are having issues with their carbs and perhaps a fresh idea is in order. Let me know pls. Chris
I'll you are the carbman you know your stuff I wish I knew a 10th of what you know about carbs. Yall got that new set up flying in that truck so glad yall got it figured out good luck at the races next weekend. Your friend from louisiana Rick 427
You should build the Nova for Race Week type events. Let Billy and Tommy take the wheel and call you if they need help. Let's them test their knowledge and ingenuity while they still have you to help. My 24 year old daughter now regrets that she didn't watch me do stuff around the house and car maintenance.
Hey Bill, i have a csu that is shooting fuel out of the vent, just hooked up for the first time. Tried adjusting regulator and the float with no help. Any ideas would be appreciated
The Venturi effect causes pressure difference in the carburator when boosted. It's like a Cylinder Head and it's CFM and velocity before and after the valve seat.
You should make a video explaining tuning and boost ramps and the what’s apps you use on your laptop. I can’t find anything anywhere about it and am really needing some guidance. Just a young kid trying to learn. If you have anyone to point to I would much a appreciate it
Thank you So much For Sharing Your Knowledge on this Subject! Me I just Run A Big Holley, With A Plate Nitrous System on my 406 Chevy. Way over my head, but I watched it maybe picked up a few things I can share with my friends.
I run a 180 on mine , but have a ball valve under thermostat that bypasses thermostat to cool it down if need be letting water pump run while engine is turned off.
You're also going to see a lesser boost number under the carb because the air has been cooled by the fuel. Less restriction measured. Physic's shows, cooler air is under less pressure. Wrapped manifolds and turbo blankets keeps the heat in the exhaust air causing more pressure thus driving the turbo harder so you can see a different pressure from cool to hot at the same boost pressure minus the effects of drive pressure.
Great video. That truck is coming around great. Good luck this weekend . I live in Indiana, I'm going with the Ohio Boys this weekend for the win. Go getem SRC
Thank you for the informative video. How do you properly adjust a dual needle and seat. Also do you guys reference the wastegate above the carburetor? What kind of timing do you run? Locked timing with a boost timing master to pull timing under boost or does it stay locked with the same timing at idle and full boost while on methanol of course.
