Maybe not the best syfy film. But I did find it entertaining. And some scenes memorable. Seeing at the movies long ago was worth it as I left with a smile on my face.

I recall being underwhelmed, but still leaving the theatre feeling entertained. I had honestly completely forgotten that there was a giant skyscraper alien ship or really pretty much the entire movie since. It's not horrible, certainly better than most of what is made today, good enough.

Primitive? Rockets aren't necessarily primitive. Depends on the fuel source and tech involved. We've seen in Star Trek Canon, maneuvering thrusters that look very similar to this, even though they have warp drive. In fact every ship in the Star Trek Canon would use similar thrusters to land or take off from a planet surface, except for some of the hover technology shown with their shuttlecraft. Either way, even sci fi that proposes very advance propulsion systems uses 'thrusters' that mimic chemical rocket propulsion to get large ships off the ground.
