"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" (in Spanish: (Don't fear) death) is a song by the American band Blue Öyster Cult included in their album Agents of Fortune (1976). Its composer was the group's guitarist, Donald Roeser and David Lucas, Murray Krugman and Sandy Pearlman who produced it. It is built on the repetitive opening riff of Dharma, while its lyrics deal with eternal love and the inevitability of death. The guitarist wrote the song while imagining his possible death.
The lyrics talk about the inevitability of death and the ridiculousness of fearing it; it was written by Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser when he thought what would happen if he died at a young age. The verse "Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity" -in Spanish: Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity - led many listeners to interpret the song as a suicidal pact, however, Dharma claimed that the lyrics speak about eternal love and not about suicide. The guitarist mentioned Romeo and Juliet to describe a couple believing that they would meet again in the afterlife. Dharma also added that 40,000 men and women die every day, however this data is wrong, approximately 140,000 people died every day in 1976.

𝐋𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐬:
All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be like they are.
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man.
Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity, Romeo and Juliet
40, 000 men and women everyday, Like Romeo and Juliet
40, 000 men and women everyday, Redefine happiness
Another 40, 000 coming everyday, We can be like they are.
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man.
Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on.
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared, saying don't be afraid.
Come on baby, and she had no fear
And she ran to him, then they started to fly
They looked backward and said goodby, she had become like they are
She had taken his hand, she had become like they are
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper.
