In Maryland, it is 5 inch minimum before mid-July then after that they must be 5.25 inches. Also, we cannot keep any female crabs. Many years ago, we use to be able to keep the females, but the rules changed for us.
I wish I liked the taste of blue crabs. They are so thick down here in south Texas everywhere I fish. Lots of big males down here that I see at night on the reefs. I do enjoy catching them for other people and for bait. Awesome video!
A water hose cleans inside faster and use one of legs to open the bottom up. Hand under shell and over claw and rip up takes shell up. Face off with a thumb and finger technique I call pinch off.
Dauphin Island during the neap tide mid September, my grandkids were catching dozens per day on the beach. Most were female, and most were approaching six inches or more. We steamed about 4 dozen, and my granddaughter kept bringing me a couple more while I was cooking (but grandpa these are really big ones) every time I protested that we had enough. Some of them were so sweet you’d think they had sugar added. As good as they were, I’m looking forward to trying them on the grill like you did.
Grozza Perth Australia watching that’s how I catch crabs here in the swan River we have blue manner crabs 🦀 about twice the size we are only aloud to take 5 male ones I use a scoop net and head lamp at night 👌👌
I like using chicken legs on a string my buddy caught 3 dozen a couple nights ago in about 2 hours all big#1 blue crabs and full of meat here in Louisiana , the nets with the big holes works best cause they can't climb out as well
My son and his hunting/fishing buddies had a wire pen just at the edge of the waterway they fished. They had a few crab baskets scattered around and would check them on the way in and put them into the pen. Once they had enough they'd have a crab boil/ fry/ grill and enjoy. Any leftovers here went into crab meat salad. Enjoyed watching you catch them with a dip net, that did look like a lot of fun. Weather is a changing glad to see you mixing it up. God Bless. NW ga.
We typically throw back the females that are right around legal size. Prefer big Jimmy's. Looks fun though. Just a lot of smaller females it seems in that technique though.
Hey. Can you do better on a boat getting blue crabs? I have wanted to do that for a long time and maybe bring my son but we don’t get them here in southeast florida
