I have made a mistake reading these comments. BD always has great lines and hard, entertaining, impressive music. It is a shame that everyone feels the need to call out "omg BD plays quarter notes and the same licks omg" So frustrating. Sometimes 4 quarters notes in a row is what fits the music...and also, they play extremely difficult passages. If BD played easy things, then more people would audition and make it than come out and comment on their videos.
Kinda funny that half of these guys were with the Bluecoats last year and thought "I wanna be in a a corps that'll win next year" they go to BD and bluecoats win
urmom5675 nah, you're right, he was 15 in coats and is a year younger than Brandon. He ages out in 2020. And is going to be 18 this upcoming season in 2017
Caryn Denter It causes bad posture. Granted those carries force your back to straighten out so more than likley hes just short. I would guess he's around 5'4"-5'6"
I was about to say just genetics, but he also was prevented from marching with BD until he was 16 due to Scoliosis. Scott Johnson did an interview where he said he wanted to take Brandon just for his hands at age 14 and 15, but he had him wait one more year just due to the modern physicality of the activity. I think it’s great that drum corps is now an athletic activity, but it requires a lot more work because of that.
I feel like the BD book nowadays is written like something that would be used in a drumline battle. They're clean and all, but it looks like all they do is show off with stick tricks and visuals and splits. I mean no disrespect to BD, I'm just giving my honest opinion. I found them much more enjoyable in the past.
I feel like their bass line has improved, but now their snare line is lacking a bit compared to this. kinda sucks (edit) but hopefully now that they’re getting rid of the paint bucket drums they’ll sound better lol.
B Gzz i dont wanna say i agree because no disrespect to the blue devils they rock and theyre beasts at what they do and i love them but on the low i don’t disagree if you know what i mean
Can somebody please tell me their approach to fast or intense rolls like in 2:26? My rolls always seems like I'm using too big of muscle groups while playing, and would love to know what their technique is for doing so
Listen at 2:30...the tenors are mirroring the same extended roll phrase!! And cleaner than the snares!!! It's way more difficult to do , when moving from drum to drum...! Clean that scazz up snares, quit showing off visually and play clean..
First of all, it's not way cleaner than the snares, second, there are 9 snares and 4 quads so they have different responsibilities and one isn't harder than the other, although quads is harder to play, it's much easier to play clean with 3 others than with 8 others, also, this is the cleanest we've ever heard BD this early season, and this snareline is the most stacked snareline anyone will have in a very long time.
agreed..I am a old school tenor drummer I have listened to this line and this is the most entertaining line this year in my opinion. By finals night these guys are gonna be so clean you could bottle them up and sell them in the store....
You do realize the season just started, right? They're playing incredibly well for it to be this early in the season. This stuff is not easy. I would think you'd know this, but I guess not.
BS, Madison, Cadets and Cavs are playing much more complex books with Mick more cold attacks, better front to back ensemble work and overall better musical ensemble work! I used to love BD... :(
Way to much HYPE...from the idiots in the crowd..!! The Q line is great and actually are playing more difficulty than the snares...😎The drums are selling the players, not the players selling the drums!
I hate everyone yelling. I get the "crowd is hyped" thing. It's more like the crowd is annoying. It's one thing if it is real excitement, but it's excitement mixed with people being ridiculous. 20 years from now when I watch these videos I want to be able to enjoy the drumming, not a bunch of idiots that showed up to "be hype." So please stop, people. I'd get it that I'm possibly blowing it out of proportion if this was the only video where this happens, but it isn't. I was watching a Chino Hills high school drum line and you'd think the crowd was part of the performance. Please stop. Thanks
Wow! The crowd seemed VERY impressed that the line could play quarter notes., LOLOL! The hyperly exaggerated movements these days by drumlines are more of a visual distraction than an enhancement to the visual package. Thumbs down, smh.
