Just for reference, I'm the one wearing the GoPro, and I was 18 in this video and had just finished my senior year of high school. High school aged kids can do this stuff! It's all about the commitment to self improvement :)
Over the years most corps have had members go to BD. In 84 I marched with a bari who'd come from Cadets 83. Crown 13 and, I think, Bloo 16 also have had people come over. Hell...we had like 14 people come over from SCV after 83. And the soloist from Academy last year? BD trumpet this year
LOVE THIS. Thanks for giving me an additional video to show my kids when I introduce Drum Corps every year!!! You're the bomb. Especially because this was my absolute favorite show this season, and my favorite show the Blue Devils have put out in recent years. Your hard work is paying off tenfold.
Yes I've been waiting for one of these! Especially watching the practice at Hillsboro stadium and watching drums of fire in Hillsboro. I play trumpet so obviously super excited.
I FINALLY found the one who did the Flight of the Bumblebee solo lol, I'm so glad you have it on film! He's incredible, and it's insane that BD had so many strong trumpet players, but why didn't he post this himself
Venn it is basically. The show is called metamorph because it shows how the Blue Devils have changed over the years so it includes previous years music
Steven Moody Most of the solos are typically written out. However, I know of someone who marched Cavaliers 007, and he told the brass caption head he was gonna try something different during their next run through. At the end of their Cuba piece, 4 trumpets step out of the form putting out some pretty gnarly high notes. The brass caption head liked it, so he kept it!
It just seems like that many of these musicians would be really great at improvising solos but I like the written work as well. My experience is only playing in jazz bands and I would want to improvise that bone solo every time.
Ah yesss!! La Suerte De Los Tontos feature at the beginning in the background, I love it. Played that this year as our tune in the Starlight Parade in Portland.
