I agree 110%. Blue Devils almost always play the busiest and most difficult music. While I am impressed by their technical prowess, I am also let down by the lack of groove and musicality. Too many 5-lets, 7-lets, etc. to the point where you lose all sense of time and phrasing. It's somewhat fun to watch the sheet music as they execute at such a high level, just not that enjoyable to listen to.
Right?? I like some of the "features" and the snare brakes, as well as the sticking for visual. But, holy cow! It's like... How many strokes can we cram into a four beat measure? But they know what they're doing and they do it well. Hats off
@@TylerDunphy it’s about how the line collectively decided to interpret the rhythm. this is a minor case of clarity over exact rhythmic accuracy, which happens more often then you might think lol. if you listen closely, those two double strokes are definitely way more open than sixteenth notes at that tempo. the 5:6s at 214-215 are another result of this.
@@alexgaeckle1540 it’s definitely closer to my interpretation, with the doubles being a faster hand speed than the previous three notes, but I’ve found out the original music has a 5:6 interpretation.
This is the second time in history that I can say that their battery was a bit dirty this year. The only other year that I’ve been able to say that was 2005. But damn their 2018 book was sick.
I really, really want to do that show but I can't find a video with good sound quality that shows the snares for the full duration of the show that won't get me a copyright strike. I can use the video on the official drum corps channel, but that might get me in trouble.
@@TheBANDit_67 you might be able to stitch that, combined with lot videos so dci doesnt get on you about it. Idk, beast is really undocumented which is sad cause it's a banger.
